Guest overtheclouds
hi everybody. Â :)maybe theanswer to this question seems obvious to you but it is not to me...if you know an answer to my problem please tell meee!i would like to buy an old synth with key velocity and poly aftertouchwhich has no midi (61 keys i beleive). i would like to midify it with standard components as a dedicated midi interface is hard to get and costs around 650 euros.is there the possibility to midify a unit like this and to control some parameters like filter cutoff with some sort of standard components or some stuff from thorstens page? i am good at soldering around but not sure that i could do some sort of programming work on the midi hardware...the MIDIO 128 looks as it would allow such things but i am not sure if you could control parameters like filter frequency and resonance with it... if it is complicated to midify the keybord with aftertouch to make the unit send MIDI, it might be enough for me if i could just control it through my sequencer. so the midi in circuitry may be sufficient.please help meeee! i will be eternally thankful! ;-)have a nice day and hope to having lots of messages, soon.bestoliver
TK.
Hi Olivier,MIDIO128 will be ported to MIOS very soon, this means that you will be able to add up to 64 analog inputs beside of the 128 inputs and 128 outputs very easily. Also a cascadable AOUT module with n * 8 channels and 12 bit resolution is in the queue for the MBHP (release date: unknown ;-)). You possibly have to program the application by yourself (based on the MIOS drivers) or to find somebody who plans to realize the same like you. I'm not able to tell you how it has to be programmed exactly (it's also a question of time... and I don't own such a hardware for testing), but I could give some proposals.Reg. the implementation of aftertouch and velocity: see this postinghttp://www.midibox.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=concepts;action=display;num=1057976738 which contains some superb informationsBest Regards, Thorsten.FAQMARKER
Guest overtheclouds
Thorsten! thank you the grandmaster in person has posted the 1st answer! :)bin zwar auch deutscher, mache aber im interesse aller auf englisch weiter! hihi, heisse also nicht Olivier...ok, i thought it was quite simple. just buy some standard interface with some DACs (the least configured corresponding to some standard MIDI CC assignment), solder the keygates and velocitysensors to the PCB and the DACs to the filter controllers to pilot them through MIDI...i didn't think programming was necessary as i thought standard components were available...or aren't they?what i have found is stuff liek the 128 MIDIO that can capture and transmit key gate signals. but these things don't seem to include the DAC feature tu pilot some parameters as cutoff.maybe i have to search further or just wait for the 128 MIDIO DAC addendum. :)if i find something i keep you updated. if any reader knows of anything please don't hesitate to tell me!danke nochmalolli
airmailed
hi olli,if your synth has cv inputs then a midi-cv convertor can be used to midify it... philip rees sell a small one for about 120 eurohttp://www.philrees.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_59&products_id=29best wishesAdam
jeroddumas
Would latency be a problem if I wanted to use all 122 in puts for keys? the other 6 for buttons functions and about 26 analog ins. If so give me the worst case scenerio. Thinking about building a dual manual controller for Native instruments B4 emulation. I'm gonna also try and incorporate the computer into the system some kind of way.Jerod
TK.
Latency is no issue. And since I don't want to repeat myself every month, there is now a new entry in the FAQ, see QA35Best Regards, Thorsten.
