Hey everyone..   i've been trying to get my sid working, to little or no avail..   the OS is loaded, as is the app, and i can see the OS making the call on bootup,etc..   the sid was getting hot, and thorsten assured me that's ok..  the crystal is also getting hot too, which is wierd..  anyway..

I just hooked up a 2x40 LCD to a cable per the wiring diagram..  the backlight works, and i get 1 solid row of blocks, then the next row is empty..   i've loaded a few apps on the chip to see if it would initialize, but nothing..   i've used LCD's before on other projects, so i'm familiar with them..   i've checked n double checked my wiring..   no dice..  any ideas??

The blocks are the bootstrap - this exact same thing happened to me when I was building. Try to get a midi monitor and see if you are getting the upload requests, and confirmations. If not, you may have cable polarity reversed (I did) and then upload MIOS. You'll know when its on there. Peace - Tim

I did load the bootstrap loader, and have tried to send 1.6 and 1.7 of mios to it via Midi-OX...  I do see the requests and confirmations..  i've sent the test string that's supposed to echo back, but i got an extra byte before the F7..  i'll check the cable one more time..   but i'm near positive it's right..

Hi,

if MIOS responses on this SysEx request, it's definitely running. So, I guess that you either used the wrong ID in the PIC ID field (it should be 0000000000000000 in your case --- just all zeroes --- use the change_id application if you are not sure), or you must have a wiring/short circuit problem.

Best Regards, Thorsten.
