TraiZor
> RE: Syncable LFO-extension? >Unfortunately the ICL8038 doesn't come with a reset input, so the LFOs cannot be synchronized >Best Regards, Thorsten. That's pity. Are there any waveform generators (oscilators?) like the ICL8038 with reset input?
TK.
I don't know an alternative (and already available) oscillator which comes with a sync input, but maybe you will find something similar with http://www.google.com ; my indention was just only to demonstrate how to adapt CV outputs to the analog inputs of a MIDIbox...There was also a question in the old forum regarding the frequencies which can be achieved: with the appr. Cap/Resistor combinations the ICL8038 can oscillate with up to 300 kHz, but since the waveform values have to be send over the MIDI line, the maximum MIDI transfer speed limits the maximum frequency. A MIDI value requires appr. 1 ms, that means: a sine waveform with 100 Hz will get just only ca. 10 samples (audible result: an automatic sample & hold effect ;-)Best Regards, Thorsten. gillesdeshays
Ok Thorsten...But my question was just about the max range you can have with one pot ...0 Hz to 300Hz ?ThanksGilles
TK.
Hi Gilles,It's explained in the LFO schematic http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_ext/lfo/lfo_schematic.pdf - you can select a range of 0.1 - 10 Hz or 10-100 HzJust exchange the caps if you prefer other rangesBest Regards, Thorsten. gillesdeshays
That 's exactly what i understood...Thanks Thorsten !For informations... the MAX038 is a good LF generator but too expensive ... but with sync !!!http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm/qv_pk/1257Et voila ! ;DGilles
TraiZor
I looked at the max038 and looks like a nice oscillator for me, but it also doesn't have a sync input. It does have sync out, but that's useless, isn't it?I'll google to some oscillator sites to find what i'm looking for, but it's hard to get something you want with limited knowledge. gillesdeshays
Thorsten ,Look at the MAX038.PDF ( http://pdfserv.maxim-ic.com/arpdf/MAX038.pdf ) ... Fig. 3 ...page 12 and 13 ... pin 13 = PDI ...It's a phase detector input ...You don't think we can sync with that pin ???I thought .... But i can be wrong ...I'm gonna try to Sync with ext. reference next week ...but i think it will work !Best regards,Gilles
gillesdeshays
Just to precise that there can be an display bug on the MAX038.pdf's Fig 3 schematics depending of your screen resolution ... PIN 8 (FADJ) is connected to PIN 13 (PDI) ... :-/On my PC, I have to zoom a lot to see the missing line ...Gilles
TK.
The MIDIbox will provide an configurable sync output if it really works. :)Best Regards, Thorsten.
TraiZor
Any ingeneer here who can design a (cheap?) LFO extension with sync? (not in particular Thorsten :) ) I'm really interested in such a thing ;D
gillesdeshays
So sorry for the delay but i had to move all my stuff ... to my new appartment... will be really busy next weeks .... I will try to Sync. the Max038 during my lunch time ... :-/ ... See you later ... ;)Gilles
