MIDIbox of the Week (MB64 Traktor Controller of Martin)

This is a Traktor Controller made by Martin. He built it into the case of a Denon double CD player - neat! :)

Ich muss dazu sagen das ich von Elektronik nur rudimentäres Basiswissen besitze. Gut, ich habe auch früher schon Kabel gelötet, aber mit Platinen zu arbeiten ist doch etwas anderes. Mein Schwiegervater war dann so nett und half mir beim Bohren der Löcher im mittleren Teil der Remote Control, um Platz für weitere Tasten zu schaffen. (sehr mühsam!) Auch der Platz an dem sonst die Displays sitzen wird jetzt für Tasten genutzt.

Technisch basiert der Controller jetzt auf einer normalen Midibox 64. Einige der AIN Eingänge wurden für Taster mißbraucht. Die Pitch Fader die in der Remote schon eingebaut waren funktionieren zum Glück auch am AIN (ich glaube die haben einen anderen Wert als 100 kOhm). Besonders froh bin ich, das ich es geschafft habe die Faderstart Ausgänge meines Mixers mit einigen AIN´s zu verbinden. Ich glaube auf die Idee kam bisher noch keiner.

Na ja, da im inneren der Box ein ziemlicher Kabelverhau herscht und die zusätzlichen Taster auch nur recht Provisorisch auf einer Platine sitzen (Für die anderen Taster habe ich die Original Denon Platine behalten und einfach Kabel angelötet und die Leiterbahnen unterbrochen) traue ich der Box noch keinen live Einsatz zu. Deshalb liegt auch schon ein neues altes Remotegehäuse (3HE) bereit und wartet darauf das ich eine dazu PassendePlatine entwerfe. Das muss richtig professionell werden ;-) Mein Projekt für die Wintersaison.

almost not readable... so I decided to translate your text for our english speaking friends... even thought my english isn't perfect at all.... but I think I beat the fckn computer.... yessssss  :-*

I have to mention, that I only have basic electronic knowledge. Well, I soldered cables in the early days but soldering the PCBs was quite a challenge for me. Anyway, it took me nearly half a year (I don't have much time for my hobby) and several test setups to finally finish my MidiBox.

The most challenging part was building the case. One of my most favorite tool is the Denon twin CD Player DN-2000.

Once I thought, that the button layout would also fit for Traktor... but Traktor has got more functions. So I had to place additional buttons to the front panel. With the kind help of my father in law I drilled the holes in the middle part of the panel to get additional space for the required buttons. I also used the space of the original displays to add more buttons.

Technically the controller is based on a regular Midibox64. Some AINs I abused for buttons. The original pitch faders are working as well (I think they have another rating than 100k) I'm spezially happy that I was able to hook the mixer faderstart switches to AINs (I think nobody was thinking about this so far).

Well... since there is a real cable mess in the inside of the box and the additional buttons are sitting only on a provisional PCB (I kept the original DENON PCBs for the other keys, soldered cables to the pins and interrupted the conductive strips). I wouldn't risk a live performance gig with the box. Therefore I already have a spare used remote case (3 Rack spaces) lying around, just waiting for me to create a customized PCB to fit into it. - This has to become really professional looking... My project for the winter season.
