rotary encoders w/led ring

i'm sure this is a pretty obvious question, but i've searched around a bit and haven't found any mention of it, so...

has anyone tried to find a source for rotary encoders with built-in led rings, such as those used on the tascam us2400, behringer bcr2000, etc.?

or are these just niftier examples of what everyone here seems to be doing with multiple leds surrounding a pot/encoder? i'm in the early stages of planning my first foray into building a control surface and am trying to decide how many knobs w/rings i can stand to make...

thanks

that one looks interesting... too bad their site doesn't have any further info. i guess i should send them an email... i also found an item by alps, which looks fairly pricey: alps part #EM20B4014A01, 20mm size magnetic increment type. i'm checking with mouser to see if they have it and what it costs.

thanks

well, just heard back from mouser on the encoders with led rings...

i asked for a quote on 16 pcs., and they came back with $87.00 each.  :o

yikes. apparently the minimum order for the part is 480 pcs., so they quoted me a "sample" price. if ordered in bulk, starting at 480 pcs, they go for $32.42. seems cheaper to just buy a behringer and rip the pots out!

oh well, it seemed like a good idea at the time...

cheers

I think guys like Behringer are OEM customers and have even much better purchasing conditions than the 32$. Won't be surprised about 20 bucks for a few thousand pcs.

Behringer doesn´t buy only a few thousand pieces - the BCR has 32 encoders in one unit and I doubt there´s anything from behringer that sells under 1000 units/year. Anyway, this thing costs 200 bucks, so Behringer simply won´t use encoders from this brand if they cost more than 50 cents.
