ohmstudiste Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 I bought a second hand C128 and I thought I'd get a 8580 chip but I got a 6581. Have you seen that already ? Maybe first ones that were made had the 6581 ? Is it the same one as the C64 ? I asked that coz of power supply... Quote
TK. Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Hi,I think it's the same like for the C64, you can test this by measuring the voltage between pin 14 and 28 when the C128 is poweredBest Regards, Thorsten. Quote
Jurbo Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Correct me if I'm wrong - this is what I have come up with the SID types: a C64C (C64-II) with a beige case held together with plastic clips (no screws) and a latest style keyboard ('round and thick' letters, graphic symbols on top) will always have the 8580 SID. So will a C128 with the same type of keyboard, and the C128D (plastic case model, there was an earlier model with metal casing). Other, older C64 and C128 revisions have the 6581 chip.Actually I haven't found this info anywhere on the web - it's based on my own limited experience. Feel free to comment and correct, this will help everybody! :) Quote
moebius Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Actually, it's not that straight forward.. I've got a C64C with 6851 R4.Bye, MOebius Quote
Jurbo Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Moebius - what I meant was, that even the "new-bodied" C64C's (II) seem to be divided into two generations. The C64C (II) with the later style keyboard printings and plastic clip cases have 8580. The C64C (II) with older style keyboard printings and screwed together cases have 6581. I'm not referring to the old brown C64's at all, just the newer, sleeker bodied machines that seem to be divided into older and newer generations as well. Quote
moebius Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Ah,I didn't even know that there were.. err, two generations of C64C's (newer like the thing anyway ;)Heh, Moebius Quote
