What is the difference between LED backlit and EL backlit LCDs? Is one better thant he other, i have read that the ELs have a limited lifetime.

Main thing im concerned about is easy to read and easy to wire (as in follows the diagram closest).

And one more, Im ordering the parts from eio.com, does my lcd for the MBplus16 have to these controller chips they keep mentioning?

You have all already been so much help, thanks.

OK here goes.......

LED (Light-Emitting Diode) - Consists of surface mount LED’s, which are situated in series along the bottom of a shallow plastic tray (array lit) or the edges of display (edge lit).

Life time: long, typically 50,000 hours

Simple connection +5 VDC (Anode) and ground (Cathode)

EL ( Electro Luminescent) - A thin membrane consisting of two coated electrode plates with an aluminum reflector. When AC voltage is applied to the electrodes, the electrons collide with the light emission core. The energy given off is light. Inverter (DC to AC) is used to power electro luminescent lamps.

Service Life: 1500-4000hours
