Backlit or not?

I don't know whether to go for a backlit lcd or a non backlit one. The non backlit ones sound easier to connect & are obviously cheaper but would i be losing out if i went for this option? Im not planning to use it that much except for debugging & stuff so not too worried about not being able to see it at a gig etc.

I'd guess you'd be fine, unless you're in a dark area. I'm looking at a nice looking, non-lit caller ID right now.

I think you're still at 14 pins for the standard 44780 type and just two more for the light power if you aren't running some weird external inverter display. ???

You can probably switch LCD's and connect it later if you want it.

Baaaaaaacklit... end.

... ...  :D

Yeah, really. Get a backlit one. Ever seen #any# commercial box (no matter what box) with a not backlit LCD? Nope... And the price doesn't play that big rle if you stick to the green backlight (although the other colors are damn cool).  ;D

And if you don't like the backlight... switch it off. (but you won't - believe that). The connection is not more complicated. Doesn't matter to much if you have to connect either 14 or 16 wires.

that's great, thanks for the replies!

I know what you mean about  the pro equipment, it would certainly be a lovely touch to have a nice blue one or something. Well I'll see how things are on the financial side of things when i'm ready to order, i guess its not that much more anyway.

Cheers again, its most appreciated.
