SLP Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Damn!I know punctuation sucks, but It would be much more easier to read and understand your postsIf you would use some dots and commas.thanks. matthias Quote

stryd_one Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 kris is dyslexic so it's not quite the same in his case I think. Kris don't be offended, SLP is a good guy I'd bet he just missed the post where you mentioned it. I actually forgot about it awhile back and I do understand SLP's feelings that it can be frustrating. Please don't take offense at my saying that kris, to be honest, I think that it's just because so many people are lazy about it that it's a knee-jerk reaction for us to assume that lazyness is what's happening.I don't mean to be presumptuous but a friend suggented that watching your breathing can help, because we tend to breathe in where there's a full stop. You might've already tried it and it might be useless, but hopefully that might help :) recently upgraded to reason3. it wont reconise the buttons on my midi-box. sliders and pots no problems, the buttons are all working okay, midi-ox receives signals, but reason wont respond. any ideas appreciated. it worked with 2.5 fine.Anyway, I'd say you would be better off posting this on Reason support and user forums someplace. kris Posted March 7, 2007 Author Report Posted March 7, 2007 thanks stryd im not offended frustrated is more the term as im very good at face to face but written communication will all ways be a pain having to explain just sucks as well i do try to make my posts as readable as possible obviously i want people to understand what im saying some days its better than others anyway i think its the relationship of the midi-box to reason so just trying to see if any one here uses reason cant help thinking that an upgrade of midi-box os would sort it out kris Quote
stryd_one Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 having to explain just sucks as well Yeh I know what ya mean hey. My situation is different but I do know the feeling: >:( ::) :-\ :'( >:(i do try to make my posts as readable as possibleI've noticed :)cant help thinking that an upgrade of midi-box os would sort it out I doubt it.... If you want to know for sure, use MIDI-OX to patch MIOS Studio to Reason, and play the keyboard to emulate the button presses from the midibox. Quote
audiocommander Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Anti-Punctuation rocks! (And I mean that honestly!)Cheers,Michael Quote
SLP Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 kris is dyslexic so it's not quite the same in his case I think. Oh, i'm sorry, I didn't know that. :-[SLP is a good guy You don't know the real SLP, Stryd...hehe...matthias Quote
kris Posted March 7, 2007 Author Report Posted March 7, 2007 its no worries i appreciate this forum as at least people are friendly ill give that ago stryd although im not even running mios on either of my boxes at the moment maybe the next one ill give mios a whirl kris Quote
DavidBanner Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 ppl are more than friendly round here...it's weird, maybe I'm wrong, but I get the feeling that uCapps has collected a lot of very cool and nice people - which is very strange in and of itself, as let's face it most ppl you meet are basically selfish twats. And on the internet it's life accelerated and magnified; people love to flame and act out their frustrations in an anonymous environment.btw: kris, last posts have been way more readable; is stryds suggestion working? Quote
SLP Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 it's weird, maybe I'm wrong, but I get the feeling that uCapps has collected a lot of very cool and nice people I think that's because of the fact that only very intelligent people are able to build a Midibox. ;D Quote
kris Posted March 7, 2007 Author Report Posted March 7, 2007 i practice a lot of breathing techniques i find they help with life generally as im a didj player first and for most but as for posting on forums im experimenting with layout and keeping it brief thanks to everyone involved kris Quote
stryd_one Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Didj speaks clearer than forums anyway :) Quote
Sasha Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Didge rocks!!!I made this didgeridoo in the box inspired by original didge. It is basically labyrinth in the box forming pipe. I call it LabyridooStryd, you`re aussie, right? Do you play one? ;)PS. Sorry for topic hihhjack, but it`s didge`s fault :) Quote
kris Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 i dont mind didj hi jacking the thread i like the box didj very nice i used to make them out of clay wow the low frequencies and they ring like bells when you hit the right harmonic but unfortunately fragile so they dont last for long oh well as for communication music is definately a universal form that transcends both written and spoken language kris Quote
stryd_one Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 My girlfriend is Aboriginal, she went ??? when I said "check out this didge"... "Where?" ;D We're talking in Aboriginal accents now, she's telling me the correct pronunciation of "yirdaki" heheheI have played didj but I suck at it. I can do like 2 minute breaths, but the circular breathing thing is not happening! Quote
kris Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 yea it took me about a year of practice to get circular breathing but now ive seen three different techniques of circular breathing so ive kinda realised that its like a lateral thought on this thing breathing something we all do without thinking and take it for granted that its in out in out etc where really its open to interpratation its where we get all of our energy from so its important!! check out the meaning of the word inspiration kris Quote
Sasha Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 I`m sure clay didge sounds great. Labyridoo is made of some fine wooden powder mixed with glue. Don`t know the english word. Annyway, it is not hard enough to make the characteristic sharp sound so I trie to harden it aplying several layers of laqueer.About circular breathing... newer learned it. I did tried few times but seams pretty difficult. I live far from the aborigins and other didge playing people so I tried to learn circular breathing by reading the instructions online. Kris, you mention there are few techniques for C.B. Could you direct me to some good webpages? Here is the picture of my beloved real, well not eucaliptus but bamboo yirdaki, wich sounds great, except it stop playing when I left out of breath. Good is that I have quite big lung capacity. I painted it black and tried to paint some aboriginal style dot art. Quote
kris Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 hey sasha unfortunately ive never looked on the web for circular breathing but its about relaxing so if you concentrate on the sound that you are making then making this sound longer and longer (practice this for some time as you have to develop cheek muscles) eventually the sound gets longer the breaths get shorter (it just happens, a little bit like falling in) as i say it took me about a year playing everyday but ive seen people learn it in 15-30 mins (usually children) its not difficult and if you can juggle you can circular breath kris ps this is the best i could find quickly www.didgemusic.com/instruct/circ.html Quote
Sasha Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Kris, thank you for link but I`ve been there before. I learned droning and screaming pretty quick but that breathing takes so much concentration that it becomes funny, and every time I need some time to stop laughing at myself and sound I am making while trying to inhale while droning. ;D I guess I never tried hard enough to learn it. But I like the sound I can produce, so at one hand I am not completly unsatisfied since I can make some looping segments I can play with. Didge and delay or reverb can be so fun. ;) Quote
kris Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 yea using it with alittle looping pedal can be effective as for the breathing keep playing its almost about not concentrating just relaxing but you have to develop the ability to blow air out using the cheek muscles (not the lungs) this takes time to develop strength in cheeks anyway someone like your self will get there maybe we should build a midi-didj kris Quote
th0mas Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Hey guys, this weekend at my girlfriend's we're having a "40's and arts and crafts" night, and I know at least some people are making stuff out of clay and then oven baking. Any instructions for doing a didj with that method? I'm a canuck but would love to try that :DCheers,Tom Quote
kris Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 hey thomas i hope you mean a kiln so its hot enough to make ceramics the technique ive used is to roll the clay out flat long and thin then join the two sides by using a cross hatch and slurry mix to stick them together i had quite alot of sucess with this method making quite good cones but you need a long kiln you can extrude the clay to make your cylinder then even wrap this round to make more portable and fit in a smaller kiln ive got a friend who makes them like this there good instruments and easy to carry ps dont forget to carve a design into your clay didj good luck kris Quote
kris Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 just in case anyones looking i sorted my reason problem out i installed version 2 i dont feel any loss from not running the latest version and it reconises the buttons on my box kris Quote
