audioworld
Hi MB-Community,I am in the design process for my MB64, and I realized that it would be useful if all my faders are actually CROSSFADERS. For example, instead of simply fading one Track in Ableton Live down, I want to fade to the EFX-only version (pre-fader-efx-send UP, channel-to-main-out-fader DOWN). Similarely, I could fade from one channel to another with just one fader WIHTOUT using up the valuable Ableton Live A/B Crossfader busses. Now, instead of buying expensive crossfaders and using up 2 faders of the MB64, would it be possible to use one simple linear fader, and write some code which inverts the action of the fader and sends it out on another midi CC?To be more specific, the SAME FADER should transmit CC value 0-127 on one CC number, and 127-0 on another CC number during fading.I will look into this myself of course, but if anyone has any hints where to place the code inside MB64/main this would be helpful.thanks, karl. stryd_one
This should be a snap, although I suspect that a more flexible method would be to map the same CC to both Ableton track faders, with one inverted in software :)
audioworld
good remark, although I think at the moment Ableton Live at the moment does NOT allow to assign the same CC to two different targets, or did I miss something? In my version 5.x it always warns me that the CC will be de-assigned from the previous fader...karl.

Sinnsyk
In Ableton 6 you can assign multi-channel-faders knobs pots whateva to 1 fader on your midi-controller. It's on of the best new futures of # 6So get your update and stop coding ;)
audioworld
thank you, skinnsky,I thought the 6.x update only enables the SCALING of the CC´s. Is a multiple assignment of NOTE ON´s also possible (e.g. one note on triggers two clips)? If yes, Ableton will receive my update payment asap, cheers, karl.PS: I should try to code this simple rule anyway, just to practice..---)))
henrygr
Slightly off topic...Abelton vs. Cubase, what are your opinions?MP

Maybe I am wrong, I dont have Live 6 at hand.@henrygrAbleton is not just sequencer so I wouldnt ever compare it to Cubase. BTW I am Ableton fan. audioworld
henry, sasha,I also think that you can not compare Cubase and Live. I use both, but for different puposes. Live as a tool to try out combinations of loops, plugins and sounds in a quick way and for playing live on stage. Cubase for more traditinonal songwriting, although the "track view" in Live is so good now that I think one could avoid Cubase altogether. Overall I found that integrationg Audio/MIDI plugins with multiple routings is much easier in Live then in Cubase.Yes, I just tried it with Live 6.0.7, one CAN invert CC´s, just by typing 127 as the minimum and 0 as the maximum value. Also, with CC´s multiple assignments are possible, the crossfader works already (AUX SEND PREFADER and TARACK VOLUME on the same CC but inverted). The "curve" of the crossfade is not good, it seems only linear behaviour is possible between 0 and 127, so the Track fades out too slow and the AUX comes in too slow, too....It is not possible to assign one NOTE ON to multiple destinations, though. This is a pitty, as I want to start multiple clips with one button, I guess I have to set up SCENE for this purpose...
henrygr
Thanks for your views. I will try out Abelton for live purposes. It is not possible to assign one NOTE ON to multiple destinations, though. This is a pitty, as I want to start multiple clips with one button, I guess I have to set up SCENE for this purpose...If you are PC based, and are happy enough to let the code be manipulated from there, have you tried routing from misi-ox. If, however, you want this to happen fromn the PIC, what code are you using? Assembly or C- that should be easy enough. I am useles at assembly, but at C I could have a crack at it.BTW- in cubase, you can set up a "midi effec"t to output (not sure which effect- Trancformer I think) to a different midi chanel- ie pass on information without modification, which can be triggered on or off. I do not know about Abelton, but try it out.MP
