Sasha Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 I had a gig during this weekend in the woods, and this sequence triggering option would be very, very cool to have. ... some other gig for sure. What a wonderful news for awful Monday. :) Quote
evilxsystems Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 8 sequences per patch w/ note and parameter track (16 steps)Sorry for the noob question...I haven't even started building my mbsid yet, but does the 303 mode allow you to have sequences that are shorter than 16 steps?....i use a lot of 3 step and 7 step 303 lines....acid polyrhythms rule!and can it be synced to incoming midi clock? TK. Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 Hi Evilxsystems, yes, you can select the track length from 1..16 steps for each track seperately. And yes, you can synchronize the basslines to an incoming MIDI clock - this is the method I'm commonly using (see this example: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=9599.0)Best Regards, Thorsten. stryd_one Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 acid polyrhythms rule!I think you mean polymeters - There's still no sequencer that can play polyrhythms on outboard gear... yet :)Polyrhythm: A B C A B C : A B C D A B C D : Polymeter: A B C A B C A B C A B C : A B C D A B C D A B C D :As you can see, polyrhythms require separate clocking, which is not natively supported by MIDI, so the device has to support it itself, and AFAIK, none do :( I've been pushing this for years now, it won't be long ;) (Edit: I think maybe the RM1x can do it?) Jaicen Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 I'm stupidly excited by the features that V2 is offering now! I'd previously been considering building a x0xb0x, but I really don't need to now! Oh, and that bit about polyrhythms made my brain hurt a little bit ;) Quote

Jaicen Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 Exactly, and MBSID has so many more possibilities! I'd like to build a dedicated 'Bassline box' that I can use live, rather than cart about the 8xSID monster Wiba's designed ;) Maybe we can work on something together, further down the line. Quote

Unless I didn't understand you, that's perfectly doable, and easy to create in any midi editor that allows timestretching. Quote
stryd_one Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Ahh dangit... I had a big reply there but the browser crashed. Bast**dIt was some stuff about how polyrhythms require different tempo as well as a different meter (to the other track)in order to syncronise the measure start points, unlike polymeters which are just a different meter at the same tempo. MIDI only has one metronome (0xF8 aka clock) so the device has to support quantising the beats at different tempos to it's master clock, the F8 (or a multiplier of it). Yes, you can do that with a timestretch tool, or better yet write it in notation so you don't have to fumble it post-writing, and there are a number of other tricks, but it's cumbersome, and although it is possible to obtain a similar effect to a polyrhythm, I'd call it a hack, not a supported feature. For example can you think of any seqs which support a separate snap-to grid in the piano roll editor, for each track? Individual tempos per track? Etc Etc...All I can really remember (except a bunch of tech talk I can't be bothered with retyping) is that I said "I can combine my skateboard with a chainsaw motor, but that doesn't make it a car". I think that'll do... besides I didn't want to hijack, just to give a theory lesson :) Although I could split this off into another topic if you guys want to discuss it further? Obviously I am very interested in the topic and what you guys think of it :) Quote
