For step A control surface can I get away with only soldering one PIC to the DINX4 board?

And am I able to saw off the unused 3 spaces or will that ruin it?

Cheers,

I built myself a DINX2 and a BankstickX2 on a piece of vero and it's quite easy to do, just follow the schematics.

If you really don't dare to do it, use a DINX4 PCB and only stuff 1 IC. Sawing in the board would not help things, and I cannot recommend it.

That isn´t such a hard thing, you can learn it easiely. If you wanna try it I can help you to find the right way.

First you have to know how to count the Pinnumbers of the IC:

Make a print of the schematic I´ve postet. On top of the IC is a dent, now position the IC on your printet schematic. (Dent on dent).

Now you know where the pins are.

Connect all Vd together.

Connect all Vs (and the Pins with the ground symbol) together.

Connect S1 to Pin 9.

Connect Sc to Pin 2.

Connect Rc to Pin 1.

Connect all inputs to an solderpin, this pin to the resister and the resistor to Vd.

If you take an veroboard you have to make a break between the solders of the resistor.

At least you have to connect the capacitor between pin 16 and ground (Vs).

Now connect it to your core and it should work.

If you have any problems you could send me an email.
