brother303 Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Hi all,I have posted this question in the optrex bulkorder thread, but here is a better place I think...I hooked up my display on a tested and working core v3 yesterday. But sadly it doesn`t works! Here is my wiring, could some of you guys here confirm that the wiring is ok please?Optrex - Core1.VSS - VS2.VCC - VD3.VEE - V04.RS - RS5.RW - RW6.E - E7.0 - 08.1 - D19.2 - D210.3 - D311.4 - D412.5 - D513.6 - D614.7 - D715.Cathode - B-16.Anode - B+Anything faulty here?!? ??? stryd_one Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 3.VEE - V0Ahh, not so sure about that one.... VEE = Ground, VO is the bias voltage isn't it? Anyway, all the others are definitely correct, so I guess this is the only way it would go...You said doesn't work but you didn't say how... do you get backlighting at least? Any characters or anything else on screen? Is this a known-good core with other LCDs?LOl I am such a turkey... I forgot, I have an optrex 2x40 right here. *headslap*. I did mine like the instruction PDF and it works fine. That said, I quickly changed it to be like one Wilba soldered, which had a resistor for backlight power (he's explained this elsewhere before) Quote
brother303 Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 Hi Stryd, thx for the answer. VEE was the only thing I had left to solder,so I think it`s VO. Backlight is working fine, the only characters I see are black blocks in the upper row.I`ve tested it with 2 different (and working!!) cores, one V2 with a SID-application and one V3 with fresh uploaded Mios.I spent on testing the whole weekend now with the result that I`m totally confused now. I had an old 2x16 Displaytech here and hooked it up just to see what happens. And guess what,it worked! All fine, with both cores, and with the lcd-test tool of MiosStudio I was able to write and send messages to the display. After that I hooked up a 4x20 wich results to the following display entries (with a mbfm application uploaded):Gns.>k>Rvcj-Ncog""KoC"3">3>C""3>Rjofgs ???After switching back to the 2x16 still the same entries, and what confuses me most,on both cores!!!(One Sid and one fm application)The wiring is absolutely correct, triple checked this! :'(Any ideas?Greetz Brother303 Quote
stryd_one Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Sounds pretty crazy man. I'm going to go with some kind of wiring problem. Yeh, I know, you checked it, but it's clearly intermitent - when it works fine, then doesn't work later on when you do the exact same, this means it can be aOK when you test it, and then broken later. I'd be looking for dry /loose solder joints, small shorts, and general pcb mess... Quote
brother303 Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 Hi,ok,I`ll check the wiring once again.I´ll search for solder blobs and shorts too...Is there maybe a different display driver needed for the optrex? Or do I have to change the code somewhere?Greetz Brother303 Quote
stryd_one Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Well the SIDv2 has a 4685 so it will run in 4 bit mode (built-in driver).... But my optrex is fine in either. You could maybe try it with wilba's 8-bit driver, but if you have tested with a 452, and it did the same, then it's busted in 8-bit mode too. When it says:Gns.>k>Rvcj-Ncog""KoC"3">3>C""3>RjofgsWhat should it say? Quote
brother303 Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 Hi,Gns.>k>Rvcj-Ncog""KoC"3">3>C""3>Rjofgsis the startup-page of the fm-application! Gns is ENS(emble) etc.Looks weird,doesn`t it? :( Quote
nILS Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 It's a hidden code! :o TK is trying to tell us sth! Quote
stryd_one Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Can you type out the whole thing? I don't have a (working) MBFM here so I don't know the menus, and the difference between what it is, and what it should be, could give us a hint. Quote
brother303 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 Hi Stryd,it`s the mbfm-main screen. Typed out it`s:ENS. I 1 I Ptch I Name I Chn. I AudioA1 I 1 I A5 I Rhodes Piano I 1 I 1234That`s what it should be.Could it have something to do with the mios-studio lcd debugging function? I played around with that function,typed something in,sent it to the display,cleared the screen,perhaps I messed up something here? :-\Greetz Greg Quote
stryd_one Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 The debugging function should work fine.I notice there are a lot of characters there that are +2 ... I would be looking very closely at your D1 line and neighbouring stuff. Quote
brother303 Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 Hi,no shorts or something,I tested it with my multimeter. Try to get myself another pic to test it...Greetz Greg Quote
stryd_one Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Yes but it's clearly intermittent, your meter might not pick it up. Anyway try a new PIC, and good luck :) Quote
nebula Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Greg, how are you doing with this? Was this resolved? The garbage characters sound like a missing wire, or like maybe you got some of the data interface lines (0-7) reversed. Quote
brother303 Posted November 10, 2007 Author Report Posted November 10, 2007 Hi Nebula, solved!!!It was a pic-trouble,not a display or wiring prob! :oOrdered a new pic, mios upload was succesful, mbfm upload was succesful,no more garbage on the srceen. The wiring was ok,everythings fine now! ;DThanks for your help guys!BestBrother303 Quote
