  1. Hi TK, The latest firmware seems to have upset my workflow a little... before I had a dediated button (F2) that took me straight into "live record" and a press of "edit" took me back , now it seems the two options are selected on the recording setup screen which is less useful to my own way of working (its easy to know where the F buttons are on my "box" without having to look at it) Is there any way I can make "step record" and "live record" both as F buttons as this would be the perfect solution for my work !!
  2. I would like to propose firmware update to have any note played on a keyboard that is using FTS (force to scale) settings in live record mode have those (scaled) notes play back in the sequencer... I can't understand a reason for it NOT to be this way or am I missing something? so usage case would be if I have FTS set to Harmonic Minor and C , I get a Cm scale on all the white keys...if I play in a sequence of notes, currently when they come to be played back they become Major (as if FTS is OFF)...could we have it so that relative scales are kept consistent between the live recording / playback mode and the sequencer. thanks Phill
  3. I've still not found a solution to this...I almost KNOW I am missing something, I can't see why anyone would logically WANT to play in one key and then have that play back in another...free jazz??? help us TK , you're our only hope :)
  4. Hi all, I have just got my MIDIbox SeqV4 out of storage and am re-familiarising myself with it...stuck on one thing all night... I have got FTS set to "on" and " C minor melodic" which lets me play all the white keys to get a nice minor scale... BUT when I record into the sequencer in realtime mode, the notes that are played at the next loop around IGNORE the FTS settings and play back as is I had input C Major, I have tried with just individual notes etc and have determined that it is ignoring the FTS settings upon playback).... WHY !!! I can't think of a good reason why anyone would want to play live in one scale but have it play back in another? help !!! thanks Phill
  5. learning so much from these posts, thanks again
  6. thanks so much for considering this...to me it may be the finaly piece of the puzzle
  7. Thanks so much for your detailed reply, I have finally got all the tracks set up as I had imagined...I think sometimes in the heat of actually playing, I end up on the wrong page and sit there happily twisting knobs and altering settings whilst blindly oblivious :) cheers for your patience. Phill
  8. been spending quite a while trying ot sort this one, I figure I might be bugging the forum , for which I apologies. I seem to also have an issue in which on a melody track (not drum) ...the live keyboard IS playing using the scales...for instance minor.. but the played back sequence that is recorded via live play, I NOT ( it is defaulting to full chromatic play back...so if I play F and F# one after the other for instance, I am hearing just one note if I I using the scale of C major live (correct behaviour) .... but as the track is played back the track is being played as if no scale setting is applied (so I hear F and F# as two separate notes). not sure what I have messed up....all melodic tracks have FTS set to ON and Scale is set to C Minor within the FX menu.
  9. I seem to have discovered a bug with drum tracks... I have turned Group 1 Track 4 into a drum type (2*32/128) most of the default midi notes work with my volca (BD=C1, SD=D1 etc) and these work fine BUT the ones that I have to change (PH from G#1 to G1 for instance) are being accepted initially (ie I can set them up and then sequence the notes correctly) BUT upon erasing the track they always go back to their defaults (G1 in this case) ...even if I have gone into presets and logged these changes as a new preset (I created a kit called BEATS in this case with all the notes mapped correctly) How can I get these changed notes to just "be" the notes, even after I erase the track, or is this a bug? thanks Phill
  10. Eight hours later and I am still getting my head around all the great new features of the latest update, one thing I am wondering....is there any way to save the default Jog wheel behaviour to "Track Select" ( which I use to select different drum parts through the jog wheel) rather than it defaulting to" Cursor" mode as it does now? (which I no longer need in my own usage)... I can't seem to find a place to save which one should be defaulted to upon power up. thanks Phill
  11. ok, I have managed to get the function to work using the - key and + key at the moment SR PIN BUTTON_REW 3 7 BUTTON_FWD 4 7 this gives me the function I needed however , I should now have the normal fwd and rwd buttons free to do something else with but I have lost their SR and PIN numbers in the mellee has anyone got them written down as they default?
  12. hmmm, even back on the default settings, pressing rewind iscorrectly stepping me back through pages saying ****Step View 1-16**** etc BUT forward seems to yield no effect at all...any ideas? I am considering that the button itself may be broken
  13. Ah that's great to know, it doesn't actually work for me at the moment, but I think that is just because I have monkeyed around with the button functions.... will have a crack at changing the pin and SR settings back thanks for the input
  14. Is there a way I could set up the plus and minus keys to move through complete pages of 16 steps? I know that I can scroll with the cursor wheel but I would like a way to step through each page more quickly. using the + and - keys seems like a great way to me as it is inline with how my Octatrack and Electribes work. is it possible? as an aside to this... can I modify the scroll wheel usage so that it defaults to scrolling through the drum types within a drum track, this is the only thing I currently use my scroll wheel for but it re-sets to "cursor" mode every power cycle. thanks again for your patience today as I hack away through these awesome updates. Phill
  15. Sorry everyone.... I got this solved now... it seems that A . I did upload the wrong file, I needed the F1 version not the F4 but the compound problem I was seeing was result of my generic midi cable freaking out and killing its own drivers. in the end I installed some EMU ones and now everything came back to life and I was able to contact the core by a power cycle. thanks for your help , Phill
  16. So sorry to be a burden to the group....it seems I got over excited with my updating and probably did something stupid. I downloaded the latest firmware v4,086 and started up MIOS Studio 2.4.6 everything seemed as I had left it and it discovered my Midibox via my cheap Chinese style usb to midi in/out cable no problem. here is where I THINK I went wrong... I had the options of folders MBHP_CORE_LPC17 MBHP_CORE_STM32 MBHP_CORE_STM32F4 I chose STM32F4 (I now suspect wrongly) MIOS let me upload just fine and I did get the ...success...message at the end of the upload. I then turned my MIDIBOX SEQ V4 off and on again...only to be greeted with black squares on the display...nothing else. no amount of waiting around will yield it doing anything else and now it won't seem to connect via my USB to din cable at all... I took a look through the trouble shooting guide but I am not seeing my usage case. please help if you can, I am really worried I have killed my box. thanks Phill
  17. Just wanted to give a big thank you to TK for once again outdoing himself with the development of the MIDISeq V4... I have been away for a while and missed the update until now...can't wait to get this over to my MidiSeq , thanks Phill
  18. TK, Once again thank you very much for being so generous with your time and for replying to me. I will take all of these new concepts on board and play around with your suggestions (and try not to bother you for some time) . Please know that I do TRY to read the manual and forums before posting ,there is just SOO much good stuff in the Midibox :) all the very best with your work Phill
  19. Hi all, I initially misunderstood what would happen when using the "Sync to Measure" button within the Clock Divider page... I thought that this would be a way to "quantise" the dividing and un-dividing the clock of a track, so that they don't get out of sync with the main "global" tempo a usage case would be : I start with all tracks playing 16 steps at a divider of 8... I then decide to half the tempo divider on 4 on one track (currently this leaves it possibly out of time compared to the other tracks unless I go to the Manual Steps page and re-align which has the downside of not being instant) what I was expecting with sync to measure" is that my request to divide or multiply the clock would be "parked" as a command until the next time we came to step 1 on the sequencer. Thus keeping all tracks aligned even when running at a different clock speed. ---------------------- On a related, but separate note, I have noticed that inputting using the Live Record method on an empty track that has been divided during the performance seems to mean that even if I play exactly ON the beat (ie 1, 5,9,13 etc) when the sequence loops round, my input notes are shifted to a new position within the track ( quantize is at 50% btw)... I don't know if this is a "bug" or a "feature" ? As always all things mentioned here are meant only to encourage and expand the discourse on how the Midibox Seq is being used...I am 100% loving my machine and it already does so much more than any other box I own...I am just trying to throw these ideas out there. Thanks Phill
  20. Thanks so much (again) TK ... I really do hope I am not becoming an over eager menace! This is one of the best musical devices I have ever owned and it has always been in my nature to push these kind of tools to breaking point. I will sit patiently in the meantime and enjoy every second of this wonderful designed tool Thanks to all
  21. Thanks a lot for prodding my in the right direction... I had confused myself with the sheer amount of possibilities.... Right ...I've got that working... Just one issue remains... Is it possible to assign realtime input FTS to act on one channel but NOT the other... I have the drum tracks individual force to scale settings set to 'off' and the melodic channels set to 'on' but it seems that the live FTS on input is overriding this . What this means is that as I change from one scale to another within the scale setup, various drum trigger 'go missing' as they fall outside of the scale.
  22. I would like to set up my Midi box like the following: T1 input From keyboard on Channel 1 --- output to channel 1 (Microkorg) T2 input from keyboard on Channel 1 --- output to channel 2 (volca bass) T3 input from keyboard on channel 1 ---output to channel 3 (volca keys) T4 inout from drumpad channel 10 --- output to channel 4 (volca beats) at the moment I can only seem to have every channel respond to one selected channel. Is there is a way around this (ideally not involving the second midi input port as I have another dedicated instrument in and out on that port) any ideas? thanks in advance. Phill
  23. interesting thoughts from all. bugfight, have you used an EDP? you can definitely loop and generate midi start / clock upon the closing of the loop WITHOUT specifying in advance how long you would be playing for this, really is the CORE of the design I was proposing, the usage case is that I would love to be able to begin a performance without any particular tempo in mind and just kind of jam on until I find some kind of 16 bar pattern that seems to be working for me, then record this into a loop which will then send midi clock to all other devices as I close the loop. You raise an interesting point about overdubs, I was thinking more in terms of having a few tracks/midi channels (4 would be enough for me) with each being able to be a free running multiple of the others (again this is the function I can't get out of what is available currently, even in the midibox I have to specify length FIRST then play) . I have seen many sequencers such as the EMU command Station where "punching in and out" of recording to add in new data isn't too much of a problem so I take it this could be done. Feedback was another component I hadn't considered for my own needs, but if we are using a few tracks and we make the assumption that you want to fade a total track whilst keeping others at full volume, could this be fudged with an automatic sending of volume CC in a gradually reducing spiral down to 0? thanks for the link to the other device too, I will be checking this out next. I am no programmer , so I have little to offer besides discourse and real world testing of anything that does become / is available to try, but its always great listening to those with more knowledge than me. thanks Phill
  24. Hi all, I wondered if anyone has ever thought of /tried out a device capable of the kind of open ended looping that is possible In audio with simple devices such as the Echoplex Digital Pro or the Boss Loopstation, but using MIDI instead of audio. I am talking about being able to begin a performance of midi notes without having to constrain in advance, the amount of bars that the performance will take up? at the moment the only way that I can do this kind of work is to use the Echoplex Digital Pro looper to loop audio in "free time"..which then generates a midi clock signal that all of the rest of my gear can synchronise to once I "close" the loop. this is a great form to work in, but the downside of working with recorded audio is increased audio noise and the inability ot perform non-linear edits (i'e' changing notes after the fact. I would love to discuss with anyone else working in the live MIDI field, if it would be possible to create some kind of open ended looper that can loop for an undefined length (say a minimum of a half a second and a maximum of a couple of minutes if there is enough room on device), it would be even better if , upon closing the loop with a button or foot control CC, the box would then calculate the BMP and begin broadcasting midi clocks in time. well, just a thought. Phill
  25. I just wanted to show thanks on the public forum to TK for being so kind as to respond to my email request about saving FTS settings in live mode and implementing the feature in a firmware update. I am really happy to report that after a morning of fishing around in MIOS I have not only learnt a bit more about the background operation of my MIDIBOX, I now also have my beloved FTS mode saved ready for performance. I couldn't be happier with this box. Many thanks Phill MyOneManBand
