  1. Looks like you only have mios burned on the pic. have you downloaded (via midi connection) your application to the pic?
  2. i agree with pay_c.. I have 2 products from midiman and am very happy with them. worx with mac / pc / linux no problems. the midiman 2X2 usb cost about 50 bux US i also have the midimay keystation49 (which has a 1X1 built in) it cost about 100 bus US. gb
  3. duhhh, no hardware problems, it was not having the cores programmed correctly. everything appears to be functional! shows my limited programming skills... as jerry ciarcia says... (and i paraphrase) 'my favorite programming language is a soldering iron' anyway... moving on to the next project... doesn't the FM thing look kewl! gb
  4. heeheehee... looks kinka like a Quiga (probable misspelling) board :) gb
  5. AAAKKKK!! non eureka est!! I thought I had both systems working with midilink, but after really testing this weekend and assigning pots to controllers I find: the first three knobs (CC0, CC1, CC2) seem to function, but every other knob sends on CC91 ! i have inspected the pcb for shorts opens, and it appears to be ok, but will REALLY inspect with the magnifier today. i have changed pics (have a generic mios/452 set to ID0 and the same set to ID01) ..... time passes ..... it is the second board....no matter which pic I put in it (even used as a stand alone controller), I am getting CC91 from every knob. The lcd displays the correct controller and value though... hmmmm. anybody seen behaviour like this, before i put a day into troubleshooting? (although troubleshooting ensures humility :) ) gb
  6. hee hee hee hee... moebius, i've been working on that with and without midibox for about 3 years now. actually have some working stuff with pic (16f877 and 18f452) / ainx16 (kinda TK design but using 4067's instead of 4051's) / hacked multi paia FatMan based D2A's / JAL as a programming environment . still using V/Hz voltage controll hardware... next comes V/Oct.. in a few months. anyway.... i'd like to swap knowledge bases with you on this subject! gb
  7. yeah, sid is the way to go if i build a hardware synth controlled by midibox knobs... not a bad idea. right now i'm working on the second core for my control surface for moog modular (have you seen that?) http://www.ggbnet.com/midibox.html tho' multiple opl3's from the proaudio spectrum, etc. might be another alternative to SID, i am kinda looking into that now. (one of the 9000000 synth projects i have going on) wonder if i should simply connect a core to the edge connectors on an SB Audigy? not as fast a pc interface but all the windoze overhead would be gone. that might be a project for JAL though instead of MIOS. :) c ya gb
  8. I have a pcb layout that fits the following on a 6" x 9" board: 1 - core 2 - ain-4 1 - dinx4 (there is enough space for another dinx4) i did it in photoshop, it's ready to print 1:1 on your film look at: http://www.ggbnet.com/mmv.pdf grab it if you want it. i also have pdf's of the individual modules.. core, ainx4, dinx4, mb_sid, aout... and a few others.... if interested... let me know the format you want: eps, pdf, psd, etc, etc, and of course, etc...... they even have TK's copyright stamp gb
  9. y'know... i think i have a couple of these old chips.... i have so much junk here from the '70s - '80s. found a bunch of old SBs, pro audio spectrums, adlib boards, and even a coupla those old TI 76477 chips in one of my junk piles. beginning to wonder if my 'SoftMoogModular' should turn into something containing these chips and completely obviate the computer/softsynth model. hmmmm, .... grrrrrrrr.... you guys make me think toooo much! :) gb
  10. EUREKA!! not sure exactly the process by which it happened, but I'm getting controller changes from both midiboxes!!!! have not as of yet tested all 128 pots, (don't have that many) but it looks like it's working. thanx to all the parties for thier input on this. have a GREAT DAY!!!! gb
  11. Hmmm, just tried it with SysExBox-18f and get the same results lcd displays "New ID Header: "0000000000000001" and am getting nothing out of the midi-out port. that's the ID i want but I can not download anything else into the core. also, both old and new sysexbox eventually lock up and kill the midi conection, then I get BSOD. using usb midiman 2x2 as interface. gonna keep beating on it with the hammer, that should make it woik! :) any simple ideas/fixes greatly appreciated. gb
  12. how goes it, marcel? have not tried sysexbox , will do that today. tried all the stuff mentioned in your reply (but with midi-ox) btw, how is that VCF coming along? gb
  13. Well, my project has reached the point where i need more than 64 pots. already have the boards built, but am having trouble with the ID setting routines found on TK's site. (trying the first option of ID 0x01) If i change the ID in IC-Prog, nothing else will download afterwards and the lcd displays a row of blocks on top. If i change the ID in Main.asm and rebuild, then download (following the procedure in the comments of main.asm, erase pic, burn new bootloader, then download .syx file), i am able to download the new ID via midi-ox, but afterwards never get anything out of the midibox/lcd except "new ID 0000000000000001" . Can't download anything after that, and on power cycle i get that same ID message and no more. uhhhhm, i gotta be missing something obvious. Any Ideas? oh, i can use the same chip and reburn bootloader, download mios and programs and it functions, so it's not the chip or programmer, it's me. thanks in advance, gb
  14. think TK is a linux user... but could be mac user also.... i run ppc linux on my older powermacs, he might also. just a guess. gb
  15. found the old version... seems to work.. kinda i will play with it this weekend have a better one! gb
  16. i get this error when i run the batch file.... Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: JSynthLib and get spat out. i don't have a JSynthLib.jar file... i do have a .class and a .java file.
  17. Nobody really answered Jurbo's question about running JSynth.... I have the same problem. According to the docs, there is a JsynthLib.jar file. Where do you get that? I have downloaded all of the stuff from the JSynthLib site but do not find a file by that name. and (if i am reading the docs correctly) that is what gets called in the batch file. is that jar file a part of JSynthLib, or is it located somewhere else on the web... sun... tucows....? i've googled for it and it only appears on the JSynthLib faq . have not built the mb-sid yet but do have about 5 c64,128,amiga's in the attic. c ya gb
  18. tune... (arrr arrr earth humor)
  19. I use salvaged AT style keyboard connectors from old motherboards. They seem to work fine. Bound to be a surplus outlet for that kind of thing. good luck gb
  20. Here is a Fatman Mod that I used as a stand alone VCF.. it's cheap, hackable and works great... I have built quite a few for my MultiFatman synth. Cost is about 5 bux USD. lemme know if this looks like you want, I also have a pcb layout that fits on a very small board, and I could email it to you. look here for the schematic http://www.ggbnet.com/vcf.html gb
  21. get the 1.2 update.. it is much more stable and gets rid of the cdrom hassles (well... mostly) also, 2.0 is free... take advantage of that... tho I need to contact arturia about some of thier changes (2.0 does not let you control the Osc Driver or PWM... grrrr) anyway.. if you have any other problems... contact me directly or on the MoogModularV group on yahoo. have a GREAT DAY!!! gb
  22. I use it on both... depending on whether I am in studio or not.... titianium powerbook g4 for roadwork pc clone: dual P3 1GHz / 1 gig ram / scsi subsystems / SB Audigy with KXIO drivers. this box works with both mac / pc. not quite sure why your pc is not letting you control midi controllers on the mmv tho. hold ctrl + left mouse click on the knob? does not work? are you using the 1.2 update? gb
  23. Yeah.... looks like it might take 2 or 3 MidiBox systems to do the entire synth. thinking about doing one for Logic on the G4 since I use them together. thanx for looking! gb
  24. I have finally started on a major midibox project. I use Arturia's MoogModularV software and have always wanted a control surface that emulates the look and feel of the machines fabricated by Dr. Bob. brand new website so the only thing there is the midibox stuff and it's only pix right now, but will grow with time... as most things do. take a look, and lemme know what you think!! http://www.ggbnet.com/midibox.html c u l8r gb
