;D Almost finished... Right now it's all connected, AIN's DOUT's Core and LCD's (The lcd's are thoses that need the inverter for working, done that too). Now my problem is the next; i've build a simple pwer supply for testing the seq. a 15v AC trafo, with some electro caps and a 5v regulator. i also putted a led in the end to be shure that the power supply was working. My sequencer have blue and white leds (3mm) i turn on the power supply (without connecting it to the seq.) and i see the power led on... i connect the core (that is already connected to the modules and lcd's) and the power led fades, no leds are on, no lcd data, and only a voltage of 2.3 volts in the core J2. The trafo is a 15v 1 Amp power. What could be making this voltage drop? The led's (they were sold as 7000mcd's brightness), the LCD backlight? thank you all for helping :)

New Low-Cost AOUT (MBHP_AOUT_LC) under development
atomsize replied to TK.'s topic in Design Concepts
ok... i dont know the status of this low cost AOUT, but i've looked in to the PDF that KD made, the circuit seems to be very simple and easylly made. As i'm a analogue synth user i'm very interested in this design, mainlly for its parts availlability, as for the MAX's and other DAC's are very expensives or hard to get here in my country. I'm going to breadboard the circuit KD shows to give it a try, and i'll let you know my results later on... i would be great to use this new module with my almost finished MBSeq! i'll try to post some pics of the sequencer soon ;) Thank you KD and TK! -
Got mine too :D thanx airmailed :D

The guy already sold them on ebay :( 12£ plus shipping for 5000 switches...what a deal :( but i missed it :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Hi gang! I've been looking for push buttons like the one Thorsten used in is sequencer, and found a guy taht has 5000 of them for sale in with a nice price. They are all black but so skills and paint can change he color ;) I'm asking if anyone is interested in them, cause 5000 for me is way too much. i dont have a price yet, but i hope soon to have that price. stay tuned ;)

I dont know if anyone here know's them... but i've ordered some parts and i'm very pleased. switches of all kinds (well..almost): http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/products.asp?dept=1182 and an interesting joystick : http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G14071&variation=&aitem=1&mitem=2 they have a biiiiiiiiiiiig catalogue... so have fun surfing on they website :) p.s. i'm not affilliated to them... i just want to share this source of nice stuff. by the way..they ship everywere, but some times its expensive.

i'm in portugal, is hard to put a drive like that inside the akay or is it better to put it in a external case? i've saw some pics of akai s2000 hd installation, abd i noticed that the scsi connector is there for s3000xl only... seems to me that the board for s2000 and s3000 is the same(?) best regards
-
i'm getting second thoughts about putting a hard drive, since i cant find any here for a decent price... probably i'm going for the scsi zip drive, but is it fast enough? i'm a little afraid that it would be slow... merry x-mas all!
-
Put me in! can i pay with paypal? 1 set of them for me! i'm in portugal!
-
thanks Rowan when you came back from thoses vacances, check it for me for thoses filters boards. i'm going to see asap if there is that option of inverting the phase of the sample, and let you know. do you have any ideia about putting a zip drive inside the akai? or even a hard drive? does it already have inside a scsi connection? i'm getting tempted to open the damn thing...hehehehe... have a nice vacance ;)
-
hi rowan! unfortunally i'm at work... so only in this weekend i'm going to be able to see the akai working in my hands ;) my main thing now is to put a zip drive inside or a hard drive... i already have a scsi card and the guy that sold me the akai put in the package a nice cool scsi cable. All the disks and user manual in excelent shape. I've downloaded the MESA2 and i'm going to download the Millenium too. Do you have upgrade parts for it? like the filter board ? I dont know if my akai is fully upgraded in memory, but i have some older simms at home, i'm just praying that they work :D HPF? hi pass filter? i dont think so...i think it only has a low pass filter...yup..just checked on the manual...only low pass filter (digital) -12dB/octv with ressonance. best regards
-
if theres a way to do it and its not hard.... let me know... ho knows we can clone it? ;)
-
i just got my s3000xl today... i'm going deeper undermanual ;D one thing is certain.. midibox SEQ will be connected to it ;D hehehehehe merry x-mas you all!
-
Hi all! As anyone used the midibox to control the various functions of a akai sampler? like the LFO's Filters etc etc... if yes, is it hard? i'm getting a Akai s3000xl and would like to know if it would be possible to use the Midibox to control it. thank you all!

Decalc paper is good, but after that use a spraycan of varnish to protect them. you can use thoses varnish spraycans that painters use in their paintings. Your seq ROX! i love the look!

i've been using the JDM without problems, using the 5.1v zener and the 8.2 zener too. i've use it in 4 diferent computers, but only in 2 OS's... 2 computers with Win2000 SP4 and the other 2 with XP pro sp1. All of them are in english. The voltages are correct on the JDM. the configuration are as shown in the JDM page but with the delay set to 0. by steps: first select pic, then erase to be sure that nothig stays there inside ;) , then load the bootloader and finally send it to PIC. one thing i've noticed is that it can only program 18f452 and not 18LF452 (it give an error). if anyone needs pic's programmed i'm able to do it for you. of course SmashTV also does it and its more reliable!!! (and you can always buy the excelent pcb's kits from him!) best regards all! p.s. this was only to give my positive vote on the JDM. i'm going to still use it until this project changes to another PIC model :P

Hi! i've build a new connection cable for using with core and sid... i got the voltages right (5v on logic ic's and SID), but still no sound out. the FIIIIIIIII is not loud... i can ear it because i have the speakers on full power...lol on a scope theres a small noise but is very small. i've used the conection diagram thats showned in the sid page... but i'll check it one more time (only 3 days from now cause i'm out of home). Once again thank you :)
-
:( well... no sound out... the only sound i got is an annoying FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII coming out of the speakers... i'm using some computer amplified speakers... i'm affraid i've burn the SID chip with the first stage of assembling :( now i need to get my hands on another sid chip... the core and program are working great, i can navigate all the things, and change everything. everything was already double checked. as soon as i have news... i'll post them :)
-
:D :D :D Well After a long night troubleshooting, i found out that there was a wire dead in the LCD connection... replaced and...VOILá!!!!! CORE working and getting the READY message. application SID uploaded and working, all controls working, now its time to get some sound out of it... bbl :) thank you all for helping :D

The LCD i'm using is this one: Optrex DMC16230NY-LY-B 16x2 LCD display with yellow/green LED backlight. Datasheet for it : http://www.optrex.com/SiteImages/PartList/SPEC/16230cge.pdf i've connected a parallel cable to it and a pot to adjust the backlight and connect it to parallel port of my pc, running lcd smartie and it shows the info whitout having a negative voltage for contrast. still, no data is beeing show when connected to the core. thank you all :)
-
i've checked the LCD and tested it on my computer, wich shows the characters correctly without using any negative voltage. i'm going to doublecheck the core pcb for bad solder joints... thank you :)

Ok, i've disconnected everything except the core, burn a new PIC with bootloader, and turn on the core... no row of blocks shown :( , uploaded the MIOS and no "READY" message shown :( ... i'm getting desperated! i've checked and rechecked avery solder joint wire connection etc etc... and the LCD connection was reversed but now i can regulate the backlight bright with the trimpots of the core... HEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!! lol thank you all guys!!! you are beeing very patient with this noob.

well... my looooooong weekend is over...so its time to get to work (double time) and get the sid working... i'm connected one more time after assembled the code (no..i didnt assembled the code with the changes of the lcd etc and so on...) and while uploading the MIOS to a new PIC my sid 2200uF cap blow off... i hope sid is alive... no further work done so far... but i'm going to dissasemble all and start again... i will keep you guys updated :) once again, thankyou!!!!!
