  1. Thanks for your reply but I must say that I tryed to sync the core to my PC with the MIOS STUDIO and It does not work. I get no response from the core. If I measure the the J1 power pin, It gives the right voltage. Seems that after the power connector it looses somewhere. As I get no response from core when I try with the MIOS STD., I think that the won't be that issue with the multimeter. Thank you, and help is much appreciated. :-\
  2. Hi ! I have mounted my new core modules and, when I measure the critical points with the multimeter I get 4.60V instead of the 5.20V that should normally give back. I'm using the optimized PSU, so the Voltage regulator is removed and the pins are shortened correctly too. The PSU is right, as it gives the right voltages when measurinn it and even when measuring the J1 ( power pins ). The board has no soldering errors as I double checked and everything seems to be fine. Can somebody give me a hand with this ? Thanks.
  3. Ok now I'm going better, I get 4.68V, wich is not enough to start the system. What could be that I'm not reaching the normal 5.20V ? ? Thanks . .
  4. I'm using the optimized PSU. Do I have to remove the IC3 voltage regulator ?
  5. Hi again . . I mounted the second core I have with even more care and I get the same results. I'm getting a bit desperate here. Some help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Hi again ! I've got the new pair of RC4 core module pcb's : Great for SmashTV . . this design seems to be more versatile and bug free than the latests. I've got a small prob. Everything is well mounted as I did with taken all the care required for the situation, but now I'm getting 2.5V instead of the normal 5V required when realizing a Vdd measure from the MIDI troubleshooting. Can you tell me why it happens ? Maybe I'm missing new instructions for these new cores ? I see here that I get exactly the half of 5V where I have to get the whole 5V. A think to say : If I connect ground from the PSU to the core power SIL header, it gives me the 5.20V. I think is after the entrance of the power that gets lowered. But . . . I checked and everything is ok, I think it's my best solder since I started. Thanks again . .

  8. This is a message for Smash . . . I'll wait for you to send me the corrected kits ok ? I'm the Barcelona/Spain one. Thank you and I'm really sorry for your mistake. :o
  9. Yes, I will use IDC connectors too. This time the soldering will be perfect. Thanks TK, I will talk to you soon.
  10. Since this is my first electronics project, I will count this as a practice. I will order 2 more cores and this time I will do it right and clean. This was a dirty project from the beginning. :-\ The first core seems to work fine but is not because it just does not work while uploading. The second core is not giving the needed voltage, and some parts are dancing in the holes because of a bad solder. I will continue posting when the new cores arrive at my home. Thanks for the info, and talk to you soon.
  11. Hi again . . . just to remember . . I see here on the core board that I removed the IC3, I don't remember exactly why. Is it right ? Best regards.
  12. I did make the bridge between Rx and Tx and I get no response in monitor input.
  13. Let's see : I can't test the loopback because I just can't upload any app to the pic. I tested to play notes but nothing comes out of the midiboxsid. Otherways I have a single response from MIOS when I plug it. Versions : Bootloader from Smash TV on summer last year, MIOS V.1.8 and MIDIboxSID V1.7a. Thanks and sorry for being a little ansious.
  14. New error message, different from the common : Starting upload of mios_v1_8.hex Sending block 00000000-000000FF Received error code 01: Less bytes than expected have been received Sending block 00000000-000000FF Received error code 01: Less bytes than expected have been received Sending block 00000000-000000FF Received error code 01: Less bytes than expected have been received Sending block 00000000-000000FF Received error code 04: Write failed (verify error or invalid address) Aborting after 3 errors
  15. I measured voltages at the core with mbhp_core_extract and everything is ok too. MIDI jack polarity, port connections are done too. Ground measurement is done. Everything seems to be fine, I even tryed to do the LED test on the midi out jack and it works fine. My core module does not have any programming port ! Maybe I have a newer version ? Thanks T.
  16. I've noticed that I don't have any jumpers on the programming port. I remember to troubleshoot the MIDI before I left the project, and then I was able to upload MIOS and so. Do I need the jumpers on the programming port ? When I try to upload using : Don't use feedback from core, first I get the error messages, but after 3 errors It continue uploading and then it finish right.
  17. Of course T. This is the total output when trying to upload something (always happens the same ) SYSEX UPLOAD MONITOR WHEN TRYING TO UPLOAD : Starting upload of setup_6581_without_cs.HEX Sending block 00003000-000030FF Received error code 01: Less bytes than expected have been received Sending block 00003000-000030FF Received error code 01: Less bytes than expected have been received Sending block 00003000-000030FF Received error code 01: Less bytes than expected have been received Sending block 00003000-000030FF Received unexpected MIOS SysEx message = 000040000E016AF7 expected = 00007E4000 MIDI IN WINDOW AFTER TRYING TO UPLOAD SOMETHING : timestamp 24950000 us: Sysex message: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 0E 01 30 F7 timestamp 62074000 us: Sysex message: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 0E 01 7C F7 timestamp 62166000 us: Sysex message: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 0E 01 46 F7 timestamp 62292000 us: Sysex message: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 0E 01 43 F7 timestamp 62396000 us: [FF] System Reset timestamp 62395000 us: Sysex message: F0 00 00 40 00 0E 01 6A F7 Before doing some changes on the board, I remember that I was able to upload apps without any problem. 18. Hi nebula ! Thank you for your help here. The removing of the oscilator is done now. When I try to upload any aplication, the MIOS studio give a message back : error, less bytes than expected. And then the system makes a reset. What happens there ? Thanks.
  19. I'm following the Optimized PSU. I revised the interconnection and there's something I did not connected before. Can you explain how do you connect the J7 SO to the CLK pin of the SID ? I don't know what pin is it. I did not make the bridge at J4, is it right to do it ? Thanks a lot. I'm debugging here. 1- The 8580 gets very very hot, unlike the 6XXX. 2- In MIOS STUDIO, I get message errors now while uploading applications: Less bytes than expected where returned. A picture of my crap with the revised connections :
  20. Ok, no I did not try that. I will do it and I will post it here then, thank you for your help, T.
  21. Hi ! By now the exams are gone finally and I have some time for this project.( I left it on chrystmas more or less ). Yesterday I took everything out of the box and I connected it to my PC MIDI port. I've been learning and reading a lot about Sysex and MID while I was studying, so right now I can talk better about the thing that phushed me out to leave the project till now. The main problem was : I can send Sysex messages to the PCIF ( It used to be the MIOS v1.8 and the sid testtone ) I mean, the communication exist between the two parts, but I can hear no sound coming out from the 8580 and the 6581 once I test them. I even tryed to play some notes from my master keyboard and nothing comes out. The last time I tryed to get sound from them back on last xmas, I remember that I revised the voltages coming in and out from the PSU and in all the circuits. It was ok. What could happen ? Can somebody help me getting inside the project again ? Will you suggest me to start over again ? Thanks. Very cool new style for the forum, greets ! I'll add some pics to show you how my crap look like :
  22. Hey, I hunted one Vibra 16 at Ebay.com . . . Now i can see the right fuckers here ! (CLICK TO VIEW)
  23. Hi, following the guide on the main project post, every soundblaster 16 ISA should carry on the needed chips. I found one of these arrond my place on a drawer. And the info isn't correct cause I didn't found any chip with that name here !! Can somebody tell me what happen here ? Maybe I can't see the right chips ? Free Image Host - PicTiger
  24. Ok, so now I stand. Thanks for the information . . . Thanks.
  25. This post has a great info value. Thank you for introducing me in to a whole new world of information. I will check carefully how to get all those books, or at least the books I'll need. Thank you so much, and every comment is welcome. Thank you all.
