Hey. Long time, no Midibox. I just had an idea: Create an XY pad that connects into the two Foot Switch inputs on the back of my midi gear (BCR2000 or Kore). I'd love to have an xy pad, but I don't want to drop the cash on a padkontrol or a MB that's just an xy pad. Is something like that feasible?

Here's a fun question: is it possible to program M-audio's Enigma software to recognize and function with other brand gear? I have an akai mpd16 and would love to use as many banks as a trigger finger. I dug around a little, but didn't know enough about xml to make a whole lot of sense of it. Thoughts?

Have you guys checked out the OSC page? http://www.opensoundcontrol.org/ Maybe it'll have some useful info. I know OSC sounds like a great idea, but I have a hard time coming up with a list of things that use the protocol.

I used black acrylic for my front panel. It was dirt cheap, and was cut for free at my university with a laser cutter. The thickest they'd cut was 6mm, so I was kind of limited. I think having support braces underneath certain parts of the panel will keep it sturdy enough for a long time, although I haven't tried it yet. I opted for a wood enclosure (a work in progress), and I know that'll be plenty sturdy. Depending on how many controls/required suface space you need, you might consider gutting an old computer keyboard case. A future project will probably be build into one, and I've seen it done before- looks neat! PS- does anyone have any suggestions for putting text on acrylic? I was thinking Lazertrans or something, but I dunno...

I'm curious if it's really THAT bad. I've been on the support forum, and it seems like most of the complaints come from a very concentrated group of people. I'm not too worried about it. Hopefully it'll turn out to be atleast an average controller, and if not I'll send it to the 'bay and use the cash to pay off Komplete. Time will tell.

I find it amusing that I jumped on the Kore ship. I was initially really unimpressed, but when the offer came up to get NI Komplete 3 and Kore for free, I couldn't resist (Imagine being a student and getting Komplete 3 for half off, and then getting Kore on top of it). NI pwns my soul. *sigh* So, I'll wait patiently for my shipment to arrive, since it's on back order. Maybe by then they'll have their bugs sorted too.

Did I read somewhere that the 64e can only be programmed using assembly?

If you're interested in some new chips, I found a place that sells them for $5-ish a piece. The minimum order is $50, and I'm too chicken shit to manage a group order myself (not to mention the fact I have no money right now). But, the option is there.

MIDIBox is really amazing. I think part of what makes the touch screen so appealing is the cool factor. Personally, the last thing I need is another damn controller, but if someone told me I could build a touch screen environment for about $500, you'd better believe I'd pony up the dough. The Lemur, on the other hand, is too expensive. I think I read somewhere that Apple is working on creating a device similar to the Lemur, but there's not much info to be found on it.

Has anyone read up on this much? A source I'll leave undisclosed informed me that the hardware that runs this thing is easy. The hard part is the motion tracking programming. My source also said they were trying to prototype for somewhere under $500. They're not developing audio or controller apps, but I wouldn't think it would be too dificult to port Max/MSP, PD, or even a custom MIDI software app for an interface. I don't know how large an installation would be. I know it won't be a lemur (are multi-touch lcd screens available on the market?), but I'd hope it would be somewhat portable (I'm thinking MCU-ish). Anyone interested?
