  1. maybe a little silly to ask this, but.. what's cool about having rubbery gear? do you know of machines wich also have that? quite curious what it would look and feel like..
  2. in holland. it's just a blacksmith.. look it up on your yellow pages, there must be a few in your neighbourhood

  5. hmm.. safety. that's something i didn't really think about yet. :) i guess the chance of electrocuting myself would be pretty big if i did this myself. someone i know is pretty skilled in electronics though. would it be smart if i let him fix this for me? or is putting an internal psu inside a small case were everything is packed together on a tight space potentially unsmart?
  6. thanks, gonna fix me a heatsink asap then ;) i didn't see that list yet. looks very promising! :) i might just wait with ordering my frontpanel till this is out ;) btw: any tips on that power supply? i really have no clue what transformer would be sufficient. (noob, you know ;)
  7. hi folks. i finally got my sequencer up and running and i must say i'm quite pleased with it! so far the good news ;) 1: i was playing around with it yesterday, and after about an hour or so it crashed! by crashing i mean the thing shutting down, leaving all notes hanging. it does work again when i restart it.. but then after about 15 minutes it goes again. my 7805 (without heatsink) is getting really really hot, could it be it goes into thermal protection and shuts the system down? also i have to say it's not in any enclosure, i mounted everything onto a metal plate, wich balances onto two teacups.. ;) i guess the wiring is pretty vulnerable this way. is it possible that i shorted out something by accident and made it crash this way? i didn't actually touch any wires so i think it is pretty unlikely, but i thought i had to mention it to rule that out. 2: the 'exit' button doesn't do anything. it is connected and working (midio128 tells me so anyway), so i'm wondering if it has no function on the application anymore as of an earlier update? 3: i'd like to get rid of my wall-adapter and replace it with an internal psu. wich is the minimum power at wich this should run? is it for instance a good idea to get my hands on a 5v trafo? will this for instance reduce the heat on the 7805? or does the 7805 require 9 volts. i'd be pleased if someone could give me the lowdown on this :) 4: i think i need to heatsink my 7805, even if the crashes aren't caused by it. will anything metallic with some cooling paste on it do as a heatsink? :) 5: is it possible to make 32 (or longer) step patterns? if not, will this ever be possible? i think it would be very very usefull! 6: perhaps something for a future implementation; how about a second drum mode in wich you can specify 2 note values the same way you can specify 2 velocity values using the accents. i think it would enrich the drum mode a lot this way! thanks!
  8. i was stuck on the same thing, but i now found a hardware store that has a workshop that is going to build my case out of metal. costs me 50E, but i'll have a nice enclosure exactly fitting my needs for about the price of a hammond case..
  9. oh boy oh boy oh boy! you can't imagine how happy i am. that interconnection test saved the day. it was a lousy on the second DIN that prevented the sc line current to flow through to the third board. all fixed now. i could almost kiss you thorsten :P thanks!
  10. heh.. i think there's a little miscommunication here because of me typing messages while you already replied, but here's the situation at this moment: the app loaded just fine, and it seems to be working again! now it leaves me with debugging the din section, of wich i have one (the first in chain) working. going to make the others work now too, but since i had major troubles getting the third and last DIN to work, could you keep an eye out for this thread in case i get stuck again? thanks for the help!
  11. oh boy, this is weird. i tried uploading again, let it run for about 10 minutes without anything showing up on the lcd screen or on the mios midi monitor (nothing like 'upload succesful or anything'. then, being dissapointed, i just powered off, powered on again and voila, it worked! ;D ;D ;D ;D i wish i knew what was going on here, but i think i'll just be happy it's working again. what is very strange, is that my din's don't seem to do anything anymore now. not even the ones that did work before this midi timeout thing. debugging time. :) edit: i typed this while you posted your reply.. i guess i just hit 'start just on time'. anyway, any thoughts on the din thing? i guess the whole din chain not working is a connection problem, but that third din really boggles me. what could make this last board react in a way that i does work in itself but refuses to when it's in the chain?
  12. right, i see. i tried uploading again, but it's just stuck on the first block. can it be that it'll take very very long to complete? it just looks totally not like i'm used to. normally uploading an application is done in half a minute, now it won't even get past the first block in 5 minutes. here's what's on my mios studio input monitor: timestamp 113096000 us: Sysex message: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7 i start uploading and i get: timestamp 136597000 us: Sysex message: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 0E 0B 00 F7 timestamp 136623000 us: [FF] System Reset timestamp 136638000 us: Sysex message: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 0E 0C 00 F7 especially this [FF] system reset isn't quite positive i think.. enlighten me! :)
  13. i have a fatar keybed laying around here by the way. one key is broken off, but it's working. also have a midi out module to go with it.. perhaps you should get your hands on a cheap masterkeyboard on a carboot sale and just pull it apart, like i did, it may even be cheaper then ordering a new one.

  15. hah.. crappers.. it's in german. guess that didn't occur to me, being dutch.. so english and german.. it's all foreign to me ;) oh well....
  16. doepfer also sells keybeds. although when i look now i see they are fatar keyboards. they also have cheap demo and prototype models, might be a cheap way to get a nice keybed.. check it out; http://www.doepfer.de/sonder.htm :)
  17. well, it's like this: i had the din problems way before i got the midi timeout thing. my core worked like it should with: no din's connected, one din connected and two dins connected. it also worked okay with the third one connected, only the connected switches didn't respond.. then yesterday, after changing the order of the din's, i suddenly got that timeout-error. it still occurs, with nothing but a power cable and 2 lcd's connected to core, so i doubt that being a problem with the din's, really.. i have no idea where to look for the midi timeout! error, i haven't even touched the core long before it happened. i wonder what tk (or any other midibox superhero) has to say about this midi timeout..
  18. hi.. i see! i supposed the software might be looking for 10 shiftregisters, as only 10 of them were in the din hookup schematic for the seq. (i am building a sequencer by the way) the thing is that the board wich doesn't seem to work alright did work when i put it first in the chain, but when it's last in the chain (where it's supposed to be) the encoders and buttons just don't work.. i was figuring it might be somewhere in the interconnection between the second and third din module, but i have no idea where to look for errors. it's especially nasty that i have this midi timeout error in the way, so even if this din problem got miraculously fixed, i still won't be able to do anything.. does anyone know what this timeout thing is?
  19. hi there, another troublesome post. here's the case: my seq is almost working, except for the third and last dinx4 in the chain. i decided to see if it would work if i soldered it after the first one, leaving the second DIN out. so i did, and i uploaded midi128 to check if the buttons and encoders connected worked. i started uploading, then after the send of the first block (i don't know if it arrived..) the core restarts and i get the message 'MIDI Time Out! What's up ???' on my screen. (my lcd screen, mind you) what the hell is this?! how did it get here? all i really did was arrange my din's in another way. i didn't even touch the core. second, what could cause that third DIN board not to work? i switched ic's, checked, doublechecked, triplechecked (... etc.) all the connections, the boards.. measured voltages (wich seem to be in order for as far as i can tell).. i'm totally utterly lost.. thanks a million.
  20. alright then.. i'll drop you a line as soon as i find out wtf is causing that last din to not-work. if i hook up the problematic din directly to the core (leaving the other 2 out of the chain) it is working.. so there must be a problem with the connection between 2 of the din's. where do i look? any suggestions? :)
  21. i found out the cause of the problem: on the non-working board, i mounted the shiftregisters in the sockets the other way around. i got sent 2 brands of registers, one with the little 'dot' on one side, and one with the little dot on the other side.. i got mixed up.. so stupid to find out it is something so small after a full day of cursing at your non-working setup ;) it's working now, except for 1 din, the last one. i know it should be something in the way i hooked up to the 'second' one in the row, or with the shift registers. is it necessary to remove unused shiftregisters? or perhaps should i connect certain unused pins to ground? is it necessary to ground encoders and buttons to the board they are actually connected to? so for instance, i have encoders of step 1-12 connected to DIN2, and 13-16 to DIN3, will i need to connect the ground of steps 13-16 to the DIN3 board? if i'm informed right this doesn't matter, but maybe it does? a little addition to the problem: when i turn the step #16 encoder, the second lcd displays a bunch of 'new' notes. it's quite unexplainable. also the note changes, for some strange reason, while the others don't respond at all. any idea what this could mean? :) also, totally off topic; moxi.. would you mind if i email or message you regarding your 'fabrication de boutons'? ;) i'm quite interested in how you did it. :)
  22. ahh.. well, i'm using a standard external ac/dc 9v 700mA.. i guess the jack that goes into my power-bus is isolated (i mean it isn't metal, but plasticcy) btw i solved the lcd troubles, it was (as always) a loose wire on the core, so no big deal.. i'm still stuck on the din thing though..
  23. instead of opening a new thread with new troubles i'll just stick it in here, hoping someone will read it ;) i'm having some weird behaviour with my lcd and din's now. - my lcd displays weird random characters, with some of the original message partly there sometimes, this wasn't the case earlier today - my din's don't seem to work like they should.. when i hook up only the first 2 dins, the display lights up and i get a party messed up startup screen when i only hook up the first one, i don't get anything when i power up. (about the scenario i descibed in the first post. could anyone enlighten me on the way this works? why does my lcd 'respond' to how many din's i have connected, and why is it in an unlogical manner? and ofcourse, what's the quickest way to a working mbseq from here? ;) i have kind of spoiled my credits i believe by starting topics wich i figure out 5 minutes later.. but i guess everybody has to start somewhere. ::) please help me out cause i'm absolutely puzzled..
  24. gosh. forgot to mention i'm a total newbie. i disconnected the din's and now it's working.. ::) oh well. ;)
