  1. Cheers mate, that's great. I take it you've all seen the Flame Talking Synth? Reminds me of the SidStation - a waste of money!!! http://www.shelaq.de/talking_synth/start_e.htm God bless TK and all you fellas!
  2. Has this all gone a bit dormant? I've been looking at this schematics and info and it seems a little "half finished". Can one trigger all allophones and control their pitch/speed via midi at this stage? Also, where is the audio out? Sorry if this is old news, I'm just trying to get a handle on it as I'd love to make one. Cheers, Martin
  3. I was interviewed in Future Music (January 2008) and mentioned using the Midibox SID on an album coming out next month. Not very interesting, granted, but just thought I should say as it's related. I also used my MB-SID for a synth solo on a remix I did for Pin Me Down (bloc party side project) that should be out soon too. As you were.... ;-) Martin
  4. Has everyone else received their encoders? I'm guessing mine have got lost along the way. Seems like an awfully long time, especially as they only had to travel from Germany to England. Martin
  5. Still no sign of mine yet... Bit worried... Martin
  6. I'm not really sure what's going on here but, just to clarify - when they're ready, I'd like 2 baseboards kits with pic's and 2 control surface kits please. Cheers, Martin
  7. I guess I asked too late for this one...? I never received an invoice. If it turns out that someone doesn't pay, please let me know and I'll gladly take a batch off your hands. Cheers, Martin
  8. That's fantastic! Well done TK! Seriously - you're a genius. Oh, and just to clarify, I understand the difference between the mb-6582 and mb-sid v2. What I should have said was "mb-sid v2 on an mb-6582"... I kind of took it for granted that everyone would be using v2 on an mb-6582. Cheers, Martin
  9. Could it ever be made possible to use the MB-6582 as an 8-voice poly-synth with 3 oscillators per voice? That would be incredible! Furthermore, could it ever be that you could configure the synth with different combinations - such as 4-voice poly (3 osc) and 12 mono (single osc)? Or 4-voice poly and 4 mono (3 osc)? I'm guessing 12 separate mono synths wouldn't be possible as some would have to share oscillators between 2 sids...? This is just me dreaming what would be the ultimate use for an 8 sid synth... Any ideas if it's possible? Martin ps - if an mb-sid v2 (with 2 sids) can be used as a 6-part multi-timbral mono synth, does that mean an mb-6582 can be 24-part multi-timbral?!
  10. Please put me down for 2 full kits. Control surface board, base board, pic's, components, etc. Are these any nearer being available? I'm itching to use these 6582's... Cheers, Martin
  11. Does anyone have any spares they'd be willing to sell? Cheers, Martin
  12. Cheers! The case is made by Boss, model RA3. I got it from Rapid - order code 30-0960 I believe. http://www.rapidonline.com/netalogue/specs/30-0950e.pdf
  13. I thought I better get around to posting this as it's been finished for aaaaaaaaages (the 2 of us have since made an appearance on an album) and I'm currently planning my MB-6582. So, here it is - my beloved v1 midibox sid... [img width=640 height=480]http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee313/zx_plectrum/09082007157.jpg I'd also like to point out that when I started this I knew NOTHING about this kind of thing or anything technical (I am but a humble musician). AND what is more, despite owning an Arp Odyssey, Oberheim OB-Xa, Roland Juno-106, E-mu Emulator II and Yamaha TX7, it's EASILY one of my favourite synths. Anyone interested will be able to hear this MB-SID on the album "What Of Our Future" - Cazals (released early next year on Kitsune).
  14. Just started using it on remixes - I'll post any upcoming releases. Might even use it live to recreate the sounds from the album I produced earlier this year. www.myspace.com/cazalsuk You can hear the sid (panned right) doubling the lead guitar in To Cut A Long Story Short. Oh yeah, and I sit on my own playing heroic C64 melodies a lot too :-) Very inspiring little synth - glad I made it. Martin
  15. Okay, firstly - thank you Wilba! You're a champion! Secondly, it seems to work much better but I've had 2 dropouts so far (which are remedied by changing patch) and still get the occasional jump in value when using the encoder. Any ideas what the problem might be? Dodgy encoder? Something to do with the aluminium panel? Cheers again, Martin ps - the reason I'm being so picky is because this might be used live... and as Smash always says - I should start as I mean to go on and get things working the way they should now.
  16. I'm on a mac running osx and can't get the necessary stuff to try out the new DETENTED3 setting and see if it fixes my encoder problems. Just for starters - MPLAB IDE is only for pc!!! I know it's really simple but I just can't get access to a pc to actually assemble myself one. Can someone please help me out? It's extremely frustrating, having put the hours in to make this thing and then not be able to use it properly. I just need Sid v1_7303b with setup_8580.asm encoder settings changed to MIOS_ENC_MODE_DETENTED3. Many thanks in advance... Martin
  17. Hey TK, that's some pretty amazing fast work you've done there! :-) I've been on holiday for the past week but I shall try it all out tomorrow. Cheers, Martin ps- I just change the text in the .asm and click save?
  18. Cheers TK. :-) It's been a steep learning curve and nowhere near as cheap as I'd hoped but well worth it in the end. I must say, this bourns encoder feels awful and yes, it is especially unprecise. It's connected properly as the other way I tried reversed the inc/dec so... Anyone recommend another? I tried looking on the Voti catalogue but couldn't see any. The sound cutting out is still baffling me though. It seems that if I land on the patch correctly wih the encoder it will play fine. If not, I have to move and re-select it. Obviously editing patches is out of the question...
  19. Cheers TK. Congratulations on the magnificent MBSID by the way. Really didn't expect it to be quite this good and have such a versatile sound. Can't stop playing it! :-)
  20. Okay, I have it working now. BUT I have another problem... There's seems to be an issue with my bourns encoder (only 1 - step A cs). It's doesn't quite want to scroll properly. Sometimes it jumps a few numbers, sometimes it goes back a couple, sometimes it stays on the same one, sometimes the sound cuts out and a "noise" is introduced. Any ideas? I have an aluminium panel - heard some people had bother with that. Maybe it's to do with the "detent" setting in the .asm? Cheers, Martin
  21. Yes. And the lcd still works with PWM connected to CLK. The problem appears to be with: MD - SC MU - MU Also, with one of those connections the black bar started as 1 and a half black lines, then went back to just one after a second or so...?
  22. by process of elimination I have discovered the "problem" connections to be: MD - SC MU - MU If I disconnect either of these two, the lcd displays the usual bootup copyright, etc... If either is connected I just get black bars... Any ideas what the problem might be?
