  1. Swapped PICs, and the MIDIMonitor for the old PIC reads 00000004066899 ms | SysEx: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7 So, both PICs in question show the same thing. Header 0000, right? Now to see why my MB-6582 won't communicate with the computer. Nothing shows up in the MIDIMonitor IN window, and the OUT window shows: timestamp [unknown] before each SysEx message. I've tried it with the LCD Message, and by trying to upload an app by unchecking "wait for upload request."
  2. uh...it's fixed now. Last night it wouldn't communicate with MIOS, but now I'm able to upload successfully. Fine with me! Could this have been caused by my trying to upload testtone v 3b (the newest is 3c)? It kept sending a SysEx message to MIOS MIDI Monitor IN. My browser crashed so I lost the info, but I think it was 00000001697282 ms | SysEx: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7 That's what it's showing now, anyway. The LCD showed the copyright screen, then a blank screen, then Ready, then immediately looped back to the first screen. I got these from SmashTV, and 0000 0000 0000 0000 is printed on top. I'll swap out the PICs and double check that, since my other core can communicate with MIOS. I guess I need to troubleshoot the MIDI connection of my MB-6582.
  3. I've got my MB-6582 baseboard all soldered! First of all, which plug is MIDI in, and which is MIDI out? I'd rather not have to guess and check anymore. I wish I could remember exactly what I did, but now my PIC with header 0000 won't stop rebooting. I plugged the PIC into my other core module (built from a Smash TV core kit) and I get the same result, so it must be (at least partially) the chip. I plugged the old PIC 0000 into my MB-6582, and it works fine, thought it's stuck on the SID_test app, because I can't seem to upload things via MIOS studio. Before this happened, I successfully sent a message to my LCD using MIOS LCD message, so something happened between putting MIDI cables into my MB-6582, and trying to upload things.
  4. Man, I hope you figure this out! Sucks having a half-finished, unusable project. :( Just letting you know that this thread is helpful. Thanks!
  5. haha, I could've sworn I put that in a new topic in the troubleshooting forum. Thanks! I'm getting super excited...just need to populate the rest of the board.
  6. I'm measuring 13V at J25, when it should be 9-11V. I have not finished populating the base board yet, just the resistors, IC sockets, and PSU section. Is this a big enough problem to go back and troubleshoot? All the rest of the voltages check perfectly.
  7. Thank Wilba he's got a bunch of pictures of his correctly assembled baseboard! Maybe put a clarification on the parts list or construction guide?
  8. Good video! Mostly inspiring, but the LCD trouble scares me. I installed the LCD onto my other midibox successfully, so hopefully it'll go well on the MB6582.
  9. People on here have built midi controllers? I'd like to see those projects!
  10. ooh, I didn't realize I could get fans from Mouser. Thanks!
  11. ooh...Can't argue with a $0.02 price tag and proven test results! Thanks a lot!
  12. Hopefully someone finds this useful! As of this posting, I have not actually ordered these parts, so I'm not 100% sure of the reliability of these companies or parts, but I'll update this post later if I find any of these parts don't work. First of all, everything I could from SmashTV ( http://www.avishowtech.com/mbhp/buy.html ), I did. 48x ALPS tactile switches http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ALPS/SKHHDTA010/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsqIr59i2oRcqShR6iETrbseFQPH8gstG4%3d 4×20 character LCD display http://www.crystalfontz.com/products/2004a/index.html 15x Rotary Encoders http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Alpha-Taiwan/RE160F-40E3-20A-24P/?qs=yA6kp8fx8Y7zlmuFqx9z8g%3d%3d 50x 1N4148 small signal diodes http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=1N4148_T50Avirtualkey51210000virtualkey512-1N4148T50A Fan http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=36_123 http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=36_91_110 Hope this helps someone!
  13. woooo SmashTV kits are here! Now to order control surface parts. The control surface parts list just says 1N4148 diodes, without any other specs. Will any of the following work? http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Diodes-Inc/1N4148-T/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMutXGli8Ay4kL2eMxUHsTNh9R59sKQkK0M%3d http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ROHM-Semiconductor/1N4148T-77/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMutXGli8Ay4kAMqIQqqdOUlFPz0PoCoRCQ%3d http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/MCC/1N4148-TP/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMutXGli8Ay4kAqs9KzOwwk4IVdwVbwOnOY%3d
  14. Alright, finally got my kits, and I'll start soldering soon. I started researching parts tonight, and I'll be bulk ordering far less than I thought, if at all. Sorry if this is a big disappointment to anyone, but I don't think it's worth the trouble of bulk ordering to save a few dollars per set of items. Still researching switches and encoders. uh ok...I really don't see a need to bulk order any of these parts. I made a thread listing where I plan on buying them:
  15. That is the most badass case I've ever seen!
  16. ooh, how many extra?
  17. Hey, where'd my post go? Anyway, you pretty much got it, Smithy! I'm still waiting for my kits from SmashTV.
  18. Got all of them today. Thanks a lot! Sorry guys, I've been super busy and haven't researched any parts. I'm sure I'll get a burst of motivation when I start assembling my PCBs from SmashTV.
  19. ah, I see! I posted on their forums...we'll see what happens.
  20. Olorin: You'll be fine! I was pretty close to a complete electronics n00b when I started my core with stereo SID pair a few months ago. I read this site a bunch on my free time, asked questions on the forum and from my friends, and now I have a minimal stereo setup! I'm also completely obsessed, and am hoarding SIDs with plans to build two MB-6582, a sammichSID, and as many other things as I find SID chips for! Let me know if you need any help. On topic: I'm excited about the Sammich! I'm still in the preorder stage.
  21. hmm...what good is a MSSIAH without the SID chip?
  22. uh, the problem sorta comes back sometimes. I just poke at stuff on the board and turn the thing off and on until it works again. I need my own multimeter...
  23. I've never been able to figure out a way to buy SwinSID, not that I want to. I'll give this thread a few days before I list the C64s elsewhere.
  24. Is there any use for these Commodores that I've pulled the SIDs out of? I figured I'd ask here before putting them on ebay/craigs list.
  25. Oh weird...I guess I just got my machine-pin socket assumption from nowhere!
