Same situatuin here. I had a quick look a while back and didn't find anything useful.

One option that I may investugate is borrowing an inverter from something else...

These boxes run off 2xAA batteries. I probably have one at home somewhere. I'll try and hook it up when I find it and if it works I'll draw up the schemes.

Cheers dude, keep me updated. I do have some reservations about using an inverter, because it's likely to add noise at 2-4kHz in most instances, which will be difficult to eradicate. I've got an idea for making some backlights using some SMT LED's, in which case i'll keep you updated ;)

If I can make it work without adding too much noise, I'd definitely like to use the EL backlight.

The EL backlight on the Korg Wavestation is so noisy, it is totally unacceptable in a quiet room.  For this reason, I simply don't light up the EL-backlit displays I have scavenged.

I do have one or two old-school ERG "Smart Force" inverters (p/n E612-E890) which I pulled from some old stuff and I will never use, so I would happy to send it (or them, I have one in my hand and I think I have more) to you.

If you haven't seen 'em, here's the site:

You can buy replacements from ebay bud. They aren't all like that, yours must be old/dying/dead.

I got one for about $4 us.

They sell them on eBay.

These say they are for car dashboards, but it's all the same.

edit: you could absolutely power 2 LCDs from one inverter. I hope that I can do 6...
