Echopraxia Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Is it possible to power the core with 5v from a +12v -12v power supply? I would like to use the 12v supply for powering the mbfm and also power the core 5v at the same time. Would a circuit need to be made? Or can I just split the lead of the +12v wire off to the +5v core input and keep grounds together? I don't know what I am doing. I just don't want to kill myself ;)regards, echo Quote
nILS Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 You won't kill yourself but you might kill your core's VREG. Typically you'd wanna feed it with 7V - 10V. If you have a heatsink on your 7805 and preferably no CS this might well work, but the 7805 will get pretty warm. What you can to is to put an 7809 (+ caps) in between the +12V and J1 of the core.Grounds go together. Do that as close to the psu as possible and only once (star-wiring). Quote
