Snoozr Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 I've read through the manual a number of times but perhaps I've missed it. Is there any (relatively straightforward) way to get just intonated chords on the MB-SID family synths? I have a lot of fun with the harsh SID sounds but sometimes you want something sweet-sounding. Searched for "just chords" and "just intonation" but came up empty... Quote
Flemming Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 I'm not sure i understand correctly... If you want to play chords, you can use the Multi engine. I'm pretty sure you knew this already though, and i'm just misunderstanding your question. Maybe you can clarify a bit? Quote
Snoozr Posted March 27, 2011 Author Report Posted March 27, 2011 Sure. Most music for the past couple hundred years uses equal temperament for some very good physical reasons. But for electronic music where there are no physical strings etc., just temperament/intonation can be used. It makes for more stable chords that sound nicer in some places. What happens is that certain parts of a chord (usually the third and fifth) would be micro-tuned. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_intonation and this audio example should make it more concrete http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/90/A-major-triad-equal-temperament-compared-to-just-intonation-6-2008C.ogg Sounds really great on guitars by the way... nILS Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 You can adjust the frequency table (that should make for a great search term). Quote
Snoozr Posted April 1, 2011 Author Report Posted April 1, 2011 Ok thanks. I looked around in some of the OS .inc files but that was about as far as I got. I'll give it another go at some point. Quote
TK. Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 See http://svnmios.midibox.org/filedetails.php?repname=svn.mios&path=%2Ftrunk%2Fapps%2Fsynthesizers%2Fmidibox_sid_v2%2Fsrc%2Fsid_frq_table.inc The formula for calculating these numbers is well described in the SID datasheet Best Regards, Thorsten.
