LO Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 OKI have tested all IC socket voltages and they are all OK except for the one which holds the eepromPins 2,3 & 7 are supposed to be earth according to the .pdf but on the .brd file I cant seem to find a trace that connects these pins to earth.Dan; you had a similar prob I think?is it safe for me to connect pin 3 with 4 to complete the earth circuit or is it ment to be connected in a different way?I did a home etch and it matches 1:1 for the .brd file! ??? ??? ???LO Quote
d2k Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 Hey Lo...I think ur right - only i thought the tracks connecting the eeprom pins to gnd was a result of over etching or summin, so I just connected after (following pdf) and that is when it worked...:)So, looks like the issue is the eagle brd file...BestDan Quote
LO Posted October 1, 2003 Author Report Posted October 1, 2003 OK that did the trick  ;DWord of warning to anyone etching a USB module at home the current version of the .brd file has a small error: missing a trace on the eeprom socketStill couldnt get the ezUSB driver to install under XP ver 1 or ver 1.1 same error :An error occurred during the installation of the device A service installation in this INF is invalid Win 98 is fineAll works well now except ........when I conect a midi keyboard the related midi led flashes continiously even when im not pressing any keys! (it flashes faster when I do press a key) ive checked in midiOX and there is no random data being sent. The midi indicator in cubase only lights when I press a key so thats OKCan anyone point me in the correct direction to trouble shoot this small problem?CheersLO Quote
pay_c Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Thats not a problem - its normal. Thats just some data sent by your Keyboard to say "I´m here!!". If the MIDI cable is disconnected due to some error all attached devices know that something is not OK.Cubase and some Synths (and also MIDIOX) just filter this info out and because of that you dont see it.Try attaching something else to that MIDI In (like a MB64 ;D ) without that info and you´ll see the LEDs are stopping to flash. It has nothing to do with your MIDI Interface, it´s just your keyboard. Everything OK. Quote
smashtv Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Ok, Here is one of those "quirks" of Eagle! There is a ground plane on the board, but to see it when you open the board, you must click the ratsnest button. It's the button with the "X" looking symbol in it, near the lower part of the left side toolbar. For some reason eagle does not render the ground plane/flood areas when you first open a board layout. The images below show the difference between the USB board with and without the ground plane, and you can click the associated link for a larger view:http://mbhp.coinoptech.com/eaglehelp/USB1.gifBelow is an image of the board after clicking the ratsnest feature, notice that the pins of the eeprom are connected correctly:http://mbhp.coinoptech.com/eaglehelp/USB2.gifGround planes are designed into most of the midibox layouts, whether original or the newer ones I have done. It's a testament to Thorsten's design skill that the modules will work with no ground plane, but in situations like this where the ground is an integral part of the design, it has to be there. This issue is likely a problem for a lot of people, and obviously most who have built the USB module, so it should probably be in the FAQ.FAQMARKERPeaceSmashTV Quote
pay_c Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 I still do have the same probs like LO on WinXP computers.I´ll try my luck on a friend´s computer (she has Win98 but she doesn´t know if she has USB plugs :D :-X 8) -whatever). Quote
