my question is, will this cause problems? i have tried one 6581, and the filter did not work. i dont know if the filter was blown to start with though. could this voltage difference be causing the filter to not work right?

My sammichSID is getting 12.1 volts where it is supposed to be getting exactly 12. i am using a regulated power supply.

I don't think 12,1V should be a problem. Maybe your 6581 was already damaged?

thats what i thought, but i have tried 5 different 6581s now. each time, the osc's get much quieter when the filter is applied.
maybe i am just unlucky?

6581s with broken filters are pretty common, that's much more likely.

12.1V is just 1% above what you want. That's definitely not an issue. At all. Besides - how do you know that the "problem" isn't the tolerance in your meter? ;)
