seppoman Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Hi all,an idea - don´t know if this is impossible (PIC performance/memory) or too complicated. As the A_OUT module provides 12 bit D/A s, it would be cool if one channel could be used as a 4th oscillator which then could be filtered/merged through the analog in of the SID. As the SID is sort of LoFi anyway, 10 or 15 kHz sampling rate surely would be enough to playback e.g. definable single-cycle waveforms of 32 or 64 values. So you could create kind of a sine wave or other waveforms to add new timbres/varieties to the MB SID sound - if there were a number of pre-defined waveforms in flash mem, they also could be used for some kind of enhanced Wavetable synthesis option. As I said, I don´t know if all this is possible at all, but it would certainly be an amazing feature?Just dreaming :)Seppoman Quote
TK. Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Hi Seppoman,of course, everything is possible, but the trade off isn't so high. You definitely need a seperate uC which does nothing else then to generate the waveform(s) and to send them to the DAC channel(s). Kilian Leonhardt realized this with a multi chip solution - with success, but it took him one year (-> http://www.rozzbox.de).I think a really powerfull feature is the possibility to add analog waveform generators/filters/LFOs/ENVs/etc... to the SID, and this is already possible with the current MBSID implementation, you only have to use itBest Regards, Thorsten.P.S.: my plan for end of this year is to start with MIDIbox FM, an OPL3 based synthesizer with FM synthesis - just to let you know that I don't feel boring ;-) Quote
pay_c Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 MBFM? :oTK? Time? T I M E ? ? You are two people, aren´t you? ! ?wow... Quote
doc Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 No TK isn't 2 persons. ;DHis day has 24 hours .......... and if that ain't enough he takes the night for the rest of the work .... 8)...so god night to you all ...DOC Quote
shed Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 I think the aout in the sid gives you a missive amount of scope for expanding the timbral qualitys of the sid, It gives us access to a million and one alanaloge devices that have been thought up, the song that tk put up with the moog filter showed just how much the sound can be changed with some fairly minor addon stuff. And of course it would be fairly cool to have some patches with totaly mad setups like a quad sid and an MS20 or something that would be fat.And wow the FM just sounds brilliant i cant wait to see what you manage to squeese out of opl3, im sure you will suprise us tk! i found this site http://www.fee.vutbr.cz/~arnost/opl/ the possibibltys are fairly massive for a synthisis project.
