Wisefire Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 i will be trying to recreate a midicontroller along the lines of a korg kaoss pad.i have received some ribbon controllers and an x/y pad some time ago, and ive been wanting to do something with it..this would mean i would have program the specific application myself.. im not a master programmer so i will be needing some help.. pictures will soon follow as usual..obviously everybody can join in.. building the same controller in my footsteps.. its all good.. Wisefire Posted December 12, 2005 Author Report Posted December 12, 2005 ive been thinking..first of all the xy pad needs to be thought out... how to get the xy data out of the pad.. ill be looking into that.. but i first have to find a non destructive way to get the xy pad connected..i also have another idea.. remember the stylophone.. i sure dont.. but i know it it has been used by some cewl musician people.. so why not incorporate that into my midibox chaos.. 2 different methods of achieving this are.. 1. each contact point a different input in a din module.. or2. each contact point has got a different resistance.. and put that into a ain module..and ofcourse program the core to understand it all.. Wisefire Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 ok.. ive measured the xy pad.. and its not giving straight xy values.. its giving diagonal xy values.. like an x through the pad..so if i want straight xy, ill have to do some math.. Quote
Steven_C Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 So how does such a membrane work? is it resistive? Is that how touch screens work? Quote
Wisefire Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 i have no clue how touch screens work.. afaik, they use a thin film on top of a screen which measures conductivity.this works as 2 pot meters in an X shape.. Quote
machinate Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 Hi, I'm looking into the whole ribbon controller thing as well - might I ask where you found these? Quote
Wisefire Posted January 16, 2006 Author Report Posted January 16, 2006 http://www.spectrasymbol.com/i ordered a free sample Quote
machinate Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 cool. Thanks for the link! Are you getting decent results from these? I was looking for a cool way of doing non-traditional crossfaders, and I think a ribbon controller will be fun. Quote
Wisefire Posted January 16, 2006 Author Report Posted January 16, 2006 crossfader.. good idea..ill position one horizontally instead of vertically.. Quote
Jaicen Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Hey, has anybody got any results from this?? What sort of output do you get from the XY controller outputs?? Do you get summed resistances?? Quote
Wisefire Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 well.. this would be an update i guess.. ive bought an xy joystick to put in this thing!im a bit over my head in terms of programming i think.. but ill cross that bridge when i come to that.. Quote
