massiveheadpain Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 hi i've spent hours and hours reading a learning how to make a midibox - and so far has come to grasp everything pretty well. I'm designing a DJ style Ableton controller that consists of:50 potentiometers-4 pots for 4 channel volumes (rotary mixer style)-44 regular pots for aux, fx, eq, tempo,....30 push button leds (switches from mec.dk)-28 of these will be clip triggers-2 of these will be up and down scroll3 faders-1 100mm panasonic xfader-2 60mm cue and master volume fadersIf im correct this would require:2 AIN modules1 DIN module1 Core module1 Dout moduleThe dimensions of the controller will be the same as the Allen and Heath Xone 92 mixer - 12.6" width x 14" length x 3.5" depth. The design and layout of the controller will also be similar to that of a xone 92 mixer. Im currently drawing up my design in a cad program (which is new to me) and had some questions regarding the front panel. I have my layout how I want it but regarding the size of the holes im unsure. I was thinking of buying the pots from smashtv's site the 6mm by 15mm D shaft. Does that mean the hole on the panel should be 7mm if im panel mounting all the components? And regarding the faders, the panasonic faders have two screw holes on each end, i couldnt find anything in regards to the size of the holes for the screws. The 100mm fader tech sheet shows that the screw holes span 120mm, does that mean i put the screw hole 10mm from each end of the faders travel length? My last question concerns the mec led switches. The leds are built into the switch so will I still need a dout module? Thanks for the helps and hopefully within a few month Ill have a midibox to share with the community.TB Quote

If you panel mount it the thread of the screw is usually M10 (not sure if this is the size of the pot) meaning for panel mount you should drill a hole of 8,5mm or a tad smaller. As with the encoders it is better to order first and then design your panel. This way you can measure yourself. My last question concerns the mec led switches. The leds are built into the switch so will I still need a dout module?Yes it is still the same as a switch with a separate led. You have 2 pins for the led and 2 for the switch (could be 4)And welcome to the midibox community ;) Quote
