I have a quick question regarding the PIC burner.

I'd like to build one to burn a couple of different PIC's for the various projects I plan to work on.

The ucapps page says that it supports the 16xx series, but doesn't explicitly say that it supports 16F628 and 16F629. Can anybody clarify that for me, or at least point me in the right direction.

Just another quickie. After pontificating on this for some time, i've decided that the MBHP PIC burner is the one for me, as it seems to support every PIC I plan to use. I did plan to buy one from MIKE's PCB shop as the price is more than reasonable, unfortunately shipping costs more than the programmer, and since I don't really want anything else right now it's a bit of a bummer.

So, does anyone have a PCB layout of the burner they'd be willing to send me?

Jaicen,

That's actually freeware with size limitations.

You can get it from http://www.cadsoft.de/freeware.htm

You'll just need to figure out how to set your colors and turn off/on different layers before you print. Should all be in the view menu. The print dialog will also allow you to move the image around on the sheet, so you can conserve paper if you're using something fancy. Also, AFAIK, the MIDIBox boards seem to all be carefully laid out to be within the size limits of that free Eagle version.

- Still wish they'd bump those sizes up and add other limitations for the 100% non-profit DIY crowd. :'(

Take Care,

George

Hi-

Also, AFAIK, the MIDIBox boards seem to all be carefully laid out to be within the size limits of that free Eagle version.

Actually size limit is only for creating/editing files with the freeware version - You can open/print ect. (and do minimal editing) on files created with other versions.

I actually did download eagle to view the burner+ board, which is good. I just can't seem to find the option to turn off the components. Anyone got any ideas?

Edit: I've done it! I found the option to turn off the components. Gotta say, it's a bit of a fiddly program. Nowhere near as simple to use as ExpressPCB, but then it is more powerful. If anyone's interested I can mail the board jpg. It's a 350dpi Image ready for toner transfer.

That's one way of putting it. ;D

It's great once you get the hang of it. Some of the best apps out there were designed by aliens. Their documentation is definitely one of the "fiddly" areas. Most everything is in there, but it isn't laid out very well. Best route is to find some of the 3rd party tutorials and tips online. They're usually much better.

and a handful here (you'll need to put "Eagle" in the search box):

hope that helps,

PS- A couple of the most frequent "hard to figure" procedures in there are probably the group and copy commands. Copy often involves the "cut" tool (won't actually delete the parts). With "group", you select the group item, drag/lasso around all the parts you want to group, then select move, cut, or whatever you're trying to do with them, then 'right' click somewhere within the group to activate the function. You'll also see the question come up of polygons and pours opening as "unfilled" outlines. Don't know if they've changed that, but "Ratsnest" will fill them back in properly.

Thanks for that Jidis, i'll have a trawl through those links at some point when I get the chance.

I do have another PIC burner question though: Does anyone know how I adapt the burner to allow me to program 8-pin PIC's like the 12F675??? According to the info I've found, the hardware and software support them, but I've only found the info for using an 18-pin adapter (as in the burner+).

Can anybody help? This is all a bit confusing for me right now!

If anyone's interested, I think I've worked out how to adapt the burner to suit the 12F675 I need to burn for my DR-110 sync mod.

The diagram i've uploaded shows the connections needed from what I can gather.
