Ringmodulation - what is it good for?

Hi,

I've got a question concerning synthesizers in general:

What is ringmodulation good for?

I've tried several (soft-)synths and 2 ringmodulated oscs do always produce a really awful sound. IMHO you can't make music with this.

Using it on speech (second line some synth/saw/sine whatever) plus some delay is also a little nice effector. :)

(PS: I like delays so I put them ANYWHERE ;D ;D)

arrrghhhh!!! how dare you take the name of the Ring Modulator in vain!!

You are lucky I don't issue a fatwar or smite you or something...

So it's just useful for "FX" and stuff like that.

if you don't get what a ring modulator is good for then put it on EVERYTHING till you work out what it's the "killer tool at the right time" for....

because let's face it - the only way you are gonna work out what a Ring Modulator is good for, for you is to experiment!

I've used the CS80-V a lot, but everytime I switched on

the Rmod I hear this ..er...kind of "sweeping" sound.

perhaps the Rmod of my SID will sound better  ;)

Ringmod does this:

On Input A you have 200 Hz

On Input B you have 800 Hz

Ring mod builds the sum and the difference between A and B.

So at the output you will get 600 and 1000 Hz.

YOu'll get metalic and "unharmonic" sounds.
