May I suggest a small feature for a next edition of MIOS studio? For my usecases, it would be of great help if the drop down boxes with the CC's could also include 'program change'. The slider below is great for sending the value. I guess it's not very complicated and hopefully it is also useful for other midiboxers.

Hello, Now look what I found: http://www.serdashop.com/waveblaster Seems like a cute little widget for any Midibox project needing a GM soundboard. PCB with a SMD sound IC, takes 5V power and ttl midi in and out comes sound. We could stuff it in a MBSEQ for onboard sounds. Or in Midio128 for an advanced midi file player. Or... or.. I'll get one and give it a try!

Jaaaa! Got this one fixed as well. If the firmware won't go to the PIC, the PIC must go to the firmware... So i removed PIC #1, put PIC#2 in core 1 socket, uploaded firmware. And PIC#2 nicely said: MidiBox Sid V2.043 - and then something about not starting the CS. Well its device id #1 after all. Good news, so PIC#2 back in slot #2, pic#3 in slot 1, upload , etc. Bingo!

Hi again, thanks to Ilmenator and Shuriken my silly hardware issue is now resolved. The second thing is a software issue. The MB-6582 has all four cores stuffed but only 1 & 2 have SID's (8580's) I managed to upload the setup_mb6582.hex package to the first core, which is now in perfect working order. Reading thru the forum, I found that I must clone the firmware to the other cores (press menu on power up). It starts the cloning sequence and says on the LCD: Cloning Slave 01 Address: 0 Then Cloning Slave 02 Address: 0d !!!! And Cloning Slave 03 Address: 0d !!!! and finally Cloning slave 03 !!!!! FAILED !!!!! And then reboots. SID 1 is still working properly, but pressing SID2-3-4 buttons gives: SID2 not available (CAN Bus Errors) I've tried several times now with identical results. Am I missing some info or is there a problem with my box? Thanks for your clues..

Hello, My MB6582 is at 95% level. That is: it does a proper job as an MBSIDV2 on the first core (with 2 8580), CS buttons & leds all function properly. The first issue I try to solve is: the encoders don't work at all. Looking at the PCB's, I would say that the rightmost 4 74HC165's do the encoders, the left one does the button matrix. But when I pull out the 4 rightmost 165's, also the buttons stop working. I swapped them in case one was toast, but to no resort. Only with all five installed do the buttons work. My question: isn't this weird? And if so, where to look for errors?

My MB6582 is nearly ready - the LCD is still on the slow boat from China, so operation is a bit clumsy still. I can play around with the standard patch, change waves and filters and stuff so it looks to me like perfect working order. its midibox_sid_v2_043.hex firmware btw. The issue is: it does not seem to accept or store the patches in the vintage bank. I tried to upload it with MIOS studio. Open Sysex Librarian, load the bank, send the bank. It sends about 1 patch per sec and i see the sysex messages rolling in the midi out window. The 10th byte nicely counts up from 0x00 to 0x7f, but it looks like the bank/patch is always 0x00 0x02 (after 0x4b). is that OK? [8009.387] f0 00 00 7e 4b 00 02 00 00 7f ... f7 The core does not talk back to me in the midi in window when receiving. Should it? Once the sending is completed, I would expect that sending a Bank MSB / program change would load another sound. But it does not work that way. It looks like the standard patch is in all programs? Am I missing something obvious? Clues highly appreciated! EDIT: solved. Dang ole sysex filter issue. Only MB midi interface - good midi interface.

Hello! I'm working on a two-core project and I was trying some debugging today. But am I correct to assume I can run only one instance of MIOS Studio (ie on OXS10.9.2) at a time? I tried to have the cores talk to one another via Midi 4 and monitor their conversation in Mios Studio. Any clues or suggestions will be appreciated, thank you!

Inderdaad, zo werkt het. Goed over je ontwerp nadenken, Kaartjes bestellen bij SmashTV, onderdelen bij Reichelt (of een ander), solderen, flatcables maken, modules verbinden, frontpanel & behuizing maken, veel testen en debuggen, software uploaden & configureren, testen, debuggen. Een flinke bak werk maar dat vinden we juist enorm leuk hier. Soms hebben mensen wel losse gesoldeerde modules over (volg de fleamarket), maar het vraagt zeker de nodige tijd. Je kunt de meeste schema's hier wel downloaden in eagle format. En als je graag wil vast ook wel samenvoegen tot 1 printplaat. Wilba heeft zoiets gedaan met de SID-modules: daaruit is de MB6582 ontstaan: voeding, vier processorkernen, acht sid-modules en en knap ingewikkelde control surface. Maar zo'n gecombineerde printplaat moet uiteindelijk ook bestukt worden en je krijgt nog veel meer ontwerp- en testwerk, toch? Volgens mij is de route met losse bestaande pcbtjes korter. Voordeel is ook dat alle kinderziekten eruit zijn en je gelijk kunt focusen op je eigen toepassing. Voor mijn doelen en ervaringsniveau is dit een goed begaanbare weg. Ik bouw een seq v4, heb geexperimenteerd met een zelfgemaakte control surface. Een enorme bak werk met belachelijk veel draadjes en het werkte uiteindelijk voor 90%. Best wel aardig maar toch niet lekker om serieus mee te werken.... Ik bouw ook een NG met een daughterboard midikaart erin. Da's eenvoudiger: core, dio matrix, lcd-tje, sd card en een daughterboard adapter. Dat gaat nog wel met de hand. Voor de MB6582 heb ik gewoon de veilige route gekozen: de kant en klare pcb's van SmashTV. Topkwaliteit pcbs en heerlijk om mee te werken. Ik hoor 't wel!

16 bit issue workaround found. The trick is in the pg300.ngc template. I still hope a controllable clock makes it into a future release..

Ha Kibosh, welkom bij de club. Midibox is erg leuk, wel een echte DIY club. Midibox vraagt een stuk meer van je skills dan kleine electronica-kits van Velleman, aan de andere kant ben ik geen pro en lukt het me ook steeds beter - heb ik wel ongeveer twee jaar voor nodig gehad.. Voor je project zou ik me eens in deze midibox onderdelen verdiepen, op ucapps.de 1. De Midibox-NG als platform. Gemaakt voor allerlei soorten controllers, super flexibel te configureren, en da's stukken prettiger dan hardcoding in C. 2. Voor de aansturing van motorized faders heb je de MF-NG module (kijk onder MB hardware platform) 3. Buttons en encoders sluit je aan op een DIN module. Met 126 encoders heb je al 252 DIN aansluitpunten in gebruik (8 DIN modules), da's aardig wat. Buttons zul je dat in een DIO-matrix kwijt moeten. 4. Ongetwijfeld komen er ook nog ledjes bij (bijvoorbeeld voor mute, solo enz), die gaan op DIN modules 5. Je gaat ook een SD kaart nodig hebben om je configuratie op te slaan en een clcd kan ook prettig zijn voor de visual feedback. Ableton ken ik niet, maar ik neem aan dat daar wel een midi protocol voor is wat je kunt uitpluizen. Daar moet je kunnen terugvinden hoe de aansturing in midisignalen gebeurt. Je moet waarschijnlijk de controller zelf gaan configureren, ik weet noet of er al een standaard Mackie protocol script is. Ik betwijfel of je het voor 500 euro gaat redden. Motorized faders zijn dacht ik ca 15 eur per stuk, encoders doen ook gauw 1 euro, je hebt ook aardig wat pcbtjes nodig van Smash TV (1x core, 8 x din, 4 x MF, douts), ic's, voetjes, kristallen, weerstanden, condensatoren ea (zie de orderlists bij de modules). En je hebt een ARM processor nodig, een LPCExpresso LPC1769 of de nieuwe STM32F4. Lcd's en sd card interfaces koop je het beste op ebay direct uit China. Reichelt heeft veel materiaal en redelijke verzendkosten, ook kun je bij mouser bestellen, die is voor wat grotere orders best goedkoop (boven de 65 euro geen verzendkosten). En je wilt vast ook een goeie behuizing hebben - dat wil ook snel in de papieren lopen. Je kunt natuurlijk rustig aan beginnen en eerst een basis controller bouwen: 1 core, 1 x 8 faders & knoppen & encoders. Dat houdt het overzichtelijk en de kosten laag. Of zelfs eerst alleen een core en wat experimenteren met de NG software.. Misschien kom jenog op idee"en hoe je met minder hardware hetzelfde doel kunt bereiken. Hopelijk heb je wat aan mijn tips, succes!

Hello Midiboxers, I'm now implementing a driver for the DB50XG sound card in NG. Amazing flexibility!! Much easier than hardcoding it into MIDIO128!! There is one issue however: the board takes 16 bit parameters for effect settings. e.g. reverb types are 0x0100, 0x0101, chorus types are 0x4101 0x4108 etcetera. The values are not consecutive, so I looked into the MAP feature. But this has only 8 bit value. Is there a workaround or may I kindly suggest 16 bit map values as a feature request? Another suggestion is adding a midi clock feature. That would allow the NG to become the central control and clock unit in a setup. Meta events might play pause and stop the clock, set the tempo etc. Thats relevant for my setup as I want to control many things with a FCB1010 foot controller. If I could make it send a note, cc or anything to start and stop the clock, that would be amazing.

The seq v4 is not too difficult & fun to build. Control surface and lpc 1769 core from smash tv, sd card holder and the proper parts should get you going. Cheap postage from Reichelt to NL. Cheap satistronics LCD. Cheap 19 inch cases at Radio Twenthe (Hagenees?) Add AOUT, CV, QuadIIC only when necessary. I am not an electronics pro and I can bulld it, so it's doable! Sometimes a seq v4 shows up on the fleamarket, so you might be lucky. Jump on it quickly then!
