Love these encoder backlight PCBs by @d0pefish

Frankenstein's monster is ALIVE!

My final build with encoder backlighting in place and a shiny StewMac Guitar knob.
Multiple "shout outs" and "big thanks" to the many contributors and great ideas I leveraged to navigate my way through this build.
It's a rewarding experience every single time I use my MB-6582..

This looks like a brilliant piece of hardware. Is the Matrix a modern derivative of the BLM 16x16? Assume the key use case is sequencing and scene launching? I wouldn't think those lovely keys could be used for finger drumming or velocity sensitive performance, etc. Irrespective, it looks gorgeous!

I love the C64 1571 cable management system ;-)
-
What version of the MB6582 PCB are you using?
I’m noticing a more open layout, with a bunch of smaller SMD parts. -
My latest new build. Even managed to find an LCD window for this one ;-)
Next upgrade will be illuminated knobs!

My mean, green, war machine...

Peanut butter and jelly Samm1ches..
Silver (Left) = dual 6581 R4A4
Black (Right) = dual 8580 R5
Why chose when you can haz it all?

Part 2 of my first ever DIY build...
I chose 6581 R4ARs for their overall crunchiness.
-
Literally my first DIY soldering project "ever"... Took my time with it and struggled with a few mistakes and mishaps here & there, but it launched a new hobby / obsession for me, so....

Was experimenting with a few different sizes of JST XH cable to test signal to noise and the ability to easily close the case. In the end I went with the 100mm size, which are still plenty long enough to open, close and service easily.

This is my latest clean build, with all new parts.

This original beast has been with me for years. I bought it used and studied it endlessly while I was learning the basics of electronics. I've done a ton of upgrades and I'm happy to say she's still dependable and still solid as rock.
-
I really love the 16 Pin SIL to 8x2 IDC adapter for the char display created by @Altitude
I'm also happy I found a good source for JST XH cables and connectors. They make it easy to bind the mainboard and control surface PCBs together so you can separate them easily for service.

I know I’m commenting on a 3yr old thread here, but there’s clearly something special about building the MB6582.
I’m actually on my 3rd now and somehow, I still can’t get enough?
