    First: THNX! Like always happy about such comments! ;D

    Nope, not with those standard buttons. What is possible to use buttons which have two seperate channels and wire them up correctly. With one channel buttons you would need one DIN for each button and that´s easily to much. If you find some two-channel-buttons in the right size somewhere tell me! That´s easy to wire up (one channel for the left side of the matrix, one for the upper channel without any hardware or software changes needed).

    Can't you just wire the button to left and upper channel on the same pin? (You see, I'm not hindred by any knowlegde about this stuff  ;D )

    stel je doet het met zuhn 3en.. 5 euro per persoon plus versturen binnen nederland, 5.5 euro, plus een extra box om het in te versturen 3 euro.. 4 euro? geen idee.. iig het is niet echt nuttig.. bovendien bestel ik meestal heel veel tegelijk.. kan ik altijd nog eens gebruiken..

    maar het is een goed initiatief.. midibox is helaas niet zo levendig in nederland :(

    Sja, je kan het ook zo zien: met z'n 3en is het meer spul. ipv 15 euri pp betaal je dan (even makkelijk) 21 euri met z'n allen. Bespaar je de helft. Vervolgens spreek je af om ergens eens te gaan bieren of geeken met je boxen die half af zijn, en neem je na afloop je bestelde spullen mee.

    Het NL forum is wat levendiger geweest in het verleden, we hebben zelfs al een keer een dergelijke truc uitgehaald (samen bestellen, dan gaan ook de quantumkortingen werken :) ) bij Reichelt. Maar we gaan het levendiger maken de komende tijd toch? binnenkort wat pics plus een bouwtekening van mijn zelfgemaakt houten 19"behuizing, yay!  ;D

    Once (before MBSID even existed) I bought 2 C64 expansions, one being a MIDI interface, the other a 4-bit sampler, looking a lot like the device on this auction. I never even tried to get it working. I seem to remember I paid a considerable amount for the set (stupid me), but then again, I bought them from Senso (you know, from vintageplanet.nl) and it's always a good deed to support the real synthgeeks out there (He lives in Amsterdam in an apartment stuffed with old gear, he had an old mixer on offer at the time, pretty cheap, but nobody wanted to pick the thing up çause of the weight of it  ;D .

    If there's anybody interested I might be willing to sell or trade :-)

    P.S.

    forgot to tell, the sampler interfaces with the cartridge port of the C64, the MIDI interface can then be plugged in the Sampler. The MIDI interface can also be used without the sampler, via the cartridge port.

    Hi Rigo,

    I am still interested, if you can make a frontpanel that equals the quality of Schaeffer, but at a lower price (including shipping), I'll probably let you do my panel. I just started midiboxing again recently, hence the reason you never got any design from me. Right now I am prototyping an enclosure in wood (triplex), if the dimensions suit me I will send you the measurements and some pics so you can give me a quote on the whole box in Alu with silkscreen. (Frontpanel Art for silkscreening is not even close to the design stage, so you'll have to do a general quote on that, sorry).

    I'll post the blueprints and the pics of my wooden box on the forum too, might there be people interested (it's a 19" 5U Tabletop model, with sloping frontpanel). I think it's quite nice  8)

    de verstuur kosten van smash zijn niet zo heel hoog hoor.. kost je even veel om het hier weer in nederland te distribueren..

    Ik zag 17 euro voor een complete midiboxSID (inclusief onderdelen). In NL herdistribueren kan voor 5,5 euro met de post, en als er iemand dichtbij woont kan er opgehaald worden.

    Dat moet natuurlijk 17 dollar zijn, zo'n 14 euro. Vind ik nog steeds de moeite waard om op te besparen.

    Ik ben voornemens om binnen 2 maanden PCB's te gaan bestellen, als iemand (hoe meer mensen des te beter uiteraard) ook graag een bestelling bij Smash zou doen kunnen we samen bestellen om de verzendkosten te drukken.

    Ik kan er eventueel zelfs een inkoopactie van maken via inkoopactie.net of samenkopen.net

    Als je interesse hebt, post maar een reactie in deze thread.

    OK, I'm going to connect the SID modules to the GND of the 9V branch, and the Cores to the GND of the 5V branch. I'll take your advice on the diodes into account. I'll post my definitive schamatic as soon as I'm done with testing, I suspect I might need slightly bigger caps right behind the trafo, like 4700uF.

    I didn't add the diodes yet, are schottky diodes the same symbol as normal diodes?

    I plan to put 4 connectors on each branch, to wire all the boards in a star topology.

    Something I didn't think about yet: the SID boards use +9v and +5v, but only use the ground of the 5v, right? I have a feeling I cannot connect the grounds of both 5v and 9v, is that correct? Is it a bad idea to wire the SID boards with +9v, +5v, and the GND from the 9v branch?

    Hi TK,

    the voltage of the 5Vac is about 5.8Vac, without rectifier or capacitor, so this can be easily brought to 7V or more in front of the 7805 with a good capacitor I guess.

    If I understand correctly, the ideal voltages before 7809 and 7805 are 11V and 7V? And if that is so, I can do without the connection between +5V and the 9V part?

    Do I read correctly that you advise me to connect AC current to the SID boards (I know there's another rectifier there) if it's 10,5V or (slightly) above? My plans were to create a nice clean 9Vdc on the PSU board and supply this directly to the AID boards, omitting the rectifiers there. Are there serious objections against doing so, apart from risk of swapping polarity?

    Hi there,

    After leaving my unfinished project on the shelf because of a PSU problem I couldn't fix, I'm giving it another shot to get it working.

    This questions have probably been answered before, so if there's an existing thread that could be interesting feel free to post a link (I did use the search, but that just came up with too many topics to check ;) )

    The story: My C64 PSU just couldn't cope with more than one set of Core and SID drawing power, so I decided to build a PSU from scratch. Luckily, my dad just retired from work so he's got lost of time now, and he's reasonably experienced with electronics, so he's offered to help me a bit. We found a nice transformer in the local used parts shop, which delivered 2 x 9Vac (8,5Vac to be precise), at about 4A. We removed several windings from the coil, frequently measuring the delivered volts, and right now it's delivering 5Vac and 9Vac (5,8Vac and 8,5Vac). We also got 2 nice overrated bridge rectifiers to convert the AC to DC.

    So far so good, now the questions:

    In the schematics, on the 5V part a 2200uF/16V cap is used, while on the 9V part a 2200uF/25V cap is used. Why the difference, and can I use 2200uF/25V caps for both parts?

    I am planning to use only 8580 SIDs, so there's no need for 12V, right? So, is there any reason to implement the connection between +5V and -9V right after the 7809 to cranck up the voltage to 14V, only to reduce it to 9V on the individual board later on? (Is the connection called a "feedback loop"?)

    Because I'm not using the C64 PSU, there's no 5Vdc incoming, rather 5Vac. I already implemented a bridge rectifier in the schematic, but I think I also need a 7805, since that is also part of the C64 PSU, right?

    If for any reason I do need the connection between +5V and -9V, do I connect the +5V before or after the 7805?

    The general idea is to put all the power-conversion components on one board, to supply clean current directly to the other boards without the need to alter the current on every individual board. Can I put the 10mF and 100nF caps on the PSU board as well, or do they need to be close to other components?

    I hope this makes sense, because I'm not really into electronics at all  :-[

    Ook van mijn kant goed initiatief. Doch heb ik hier mijn twijvels over want a ga je step a, step b , of step c maken. Hoe wordt de layout 100% exact hetzelfde? Die van mij dus al niet want ik vind het orgineel niet zo.

    Etcetc het leuke van midibox.org is dat je lekker zelf kunt hobbyen. heb je hulp nodig dan is er altijd iemand die klaar voor je staat.

    In iedergeval success met jouw bouwproject.

    hij heeft dit stuk anders wel in 1 keer door Twin:

    1. Je brand via de JDM de bootstrap op de PIC.  

    2. Je flasht MIOS in de de PIC met MIDI-OX  

    3. De (SID) applicatie kun je op ieder moment in MIOS laden via SysEx, zolang MIOS maar geboot is. Dus ook na 5 minuten of een half uur. Ook voor updates van de allpicatie geldt dat.

    Misschien is het je opgevallen maar de laatste post voor jouw topic is van 10 mei...misschien is het hier niet zo druk meer?

    Ik heb er btw geen tijd voor en geen zin in op dit moment. Als je het zelf wilt doen: veel succes. Er zullen vast een boel mensen hier gebaat zijn met zoiets, dus goed initiatief.

    Hallo,

    ik en nog een aantal mensen hebben nog het een en ander nodig van reichelt (ik heb in eerste instantie de inkoop op me genomen) maar door drukte bij mij prive nog geen tijd gehad. Wil jij zelf iets organiseren of ergens anders meedoen?

    Als je nog minimaal een paar weken geduld hebt wil ik wel voor je bestellen. Als je het zelf wilt organiseren ben ik benieuwd hoe je het in gedachten hebt.

    mijn god om gebruik te kunnen maken van die frontplaat dienst moet je 4e graads wiskundig afgestudeerd zijn volgens mij :D

    Schaeffer past vast ook wel als je de gaatjes laat corresponderen.

    Ben je btw al weer wat verder met de box, tijdje nix gehoord...

    bedank voor jullie opmerkingen, ik ben weer iets verder. Heb idd eerst de bootstrap geladen dat gaf geen problemen. Daarna via mios proberen die main.sys te laden en dat lukt dus niet?

    Bedoel je mischien main.syx te laden via MIDI-OX?

    dan klopt het namelijk, anders niet.

    De 2 seconden regel geldt alleen als je MIOS zelf wilt updaten, dan is het dus rebooten terwijl je in MIDI-OX de input in de gaten houd, en zodra de initialisatie string verschijnt heb je 2 seconden om het SysExen te starten.
