Well, I must admit that I would probably give better advice if I read your post correctly the first time! I gave advice about how *fast* it would be, rather than how *big* ..derrr... I guess code optimising is getting to me :-\ At least it's a good reminder that 'efficient' often means a tradeoff :)

hints: Is that FOsc or TOsc? There's an internal clock multiplier. Now spill the beans! ;)

Hi fellow down-underians ;) If any of you have ever attempted to buy some nice solder in Australia, you'll have also noticed that you can't get such a thing. Bog-standard rosin core 60/40 a-la Dick Smith is about as good as it gets.... I asked a few places about ordering in the good stuff and was quoted $60 per 1LB roll :o No that's not a typo ::) I'm going to order in some nice Kester 63/37 eutectic solder with 3.3% Kester 245 no-clean flux core in 1Lb rolls of wire 0.031" (about 0.8mm) in diameter. Here's the auction I'm getting mine from, shipping to Melbornio is quoted as $16.75, or (2) for $20.10 (US bucks). As you can see, the shipping is killer (hey, it's mostly lead!) but gets far more reasonable the more of them that you order. I'll be ordering 2 for myself, so if any of you want to save $20 on shipping let me know! I still need to chat with customs and ensure that they won't get cranky cause it's not ROHS compliant, but assuming that works out OK, if anyone is interested just let me know. Oh and for the unsure, the Dick Smith solder is fine. I'm just a perfectionist, building gear to military specification, and that's why I want it, and others might want it because eutectic solder is easier to work with.....or just for bling ;) Oh - and if anyone knows a local supplier, please let me know!!

Well if the *nix variants are OK in text, what about FC.exe? GUI-wise, there's always UltraCompare, or the cutdown version of it which is included in UltraEdit, which are both great!

Hi All, I want to get a soundgin shipped from the USA, so I figured you could all save on shipping if anyone else is interested in getting either a soundgin or speakjet in the not-too distant future. The speakjets will be slightly cheaper than those available locally, and there is no local distributor for the soundgin. I'll pay for the cost of shipping one IC, as I'll have to pay that anyway, and then anyone else can split the extra, so shipping will probably be a couple of bucks even if it's absolutely wildly expensive. They IC's themselves are USD$25 each for 1, so I suspect that including shipping it'll total about USD$27 or $35 aussie dollars or less One of each would be about $27 I guess. I doubt there are enough of us to get a price break but who knows. Of course all these figures are just estimates, I'll make it final later. If anyone's interested just post a reply :)

New toys rule ;) Hey just let her write a tune with it and she'll understand!

My personal hell right now with the vX ::) I have been working on kind of preemptive double-buffering approach, where the tracks pre-load the steps and set a flag which the sequencer core uses to process them into separate buffers to have internal signals processed separately before outgoing midi... but I don't even know if it works yet (at least, not that the timing is OK), and I don't know if such a method would be compatible or even desirable for the seqv3.

Yeh... You'll know if it's "right" or not...

J5 / A7 (RE2) as "status input pin" problem - solved
stryd_one replied to ilmenator's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
Hmm .... If the synth checks that the card is present, you might be able to use that to your advantage... You might want to take a look at how the synth checks that pin, and maybe the core can use it and manipulate it's state? -
I hope not, I donate to TK and TwinX as much as I can! That reminds me....

Be VERY careful with this. I've been ripped off by newark on shipping :(

Bitshift operations are most useful on the PIC18s for divide operations, because of the hardware multiply module used for MULWF they can actually be slower for multiplications. It depends on the size of the multiples and how it's done in ASM after the compilation... the 18f will do MULWF in a single cycle just like a bitshift, so it might not be any faster provided that the multiples are <=8 bits long, and the compiler uses MULWF. You'll just have to try both methods and check out the code. Still, it's always good to consider another way to do things in your code :) You never know what you'll think up.

J5 / A7 (RE2) as "status input pin" problem - solved

Mate if you can get that to work you're doing better than me... but that's not hard hahahaha! Seriously though, if I can do ANYTHING to help, if you need parts or funding or anything let me know! I was trying to get that going for the vX, so I could have one core for the CS, which would read/write to the database in SRAM, and another core which would read/write from the SRAM and act as the sequencer core (brains). Obviously you need a connection between the cores to ensure exclusivity when read/write operations on the buss are required, and it needs to be pretty fast so MB-Link didn't seem the right method. I was thinking about using a free pin on each core to negotiate the master core. Because the two cores would be connected to each other by their LCD busses I wasn't sure of the right way to make sure that they didn't interfere with each other, so maybe the 646 is the right way to go... Of course because my app is a sequencer I'm also concerned about having to drive too many pins and slowing things down... Not sure how that's going to effect you though, but I thought it worth mentioning. Hopefully some hardware guru will chime in any minute ;) -

MIDIBox VR? Head Mounted Displays That's a bunch of very interesting displays for cheap.. Not sure how useful they'd be tho! Edit: Oh yeh I almost forgot! Check out the new swoppy website! Unfortunately yours truly beat you to 8 channels of FX for $175 hehehe...but there's a Korg DDD1 there for $99 for you bending/ghetto synth enthusiasts, not to mention a few other good deals, like a cheap S-50 keyboard sampler with video and mouse interface. I'd trade my S550 for that thing if anyone's interested in the rackmount version. There was a DW8000 there that caught my eye too... Surely there were more goodies I missed, check it out! For the locals, swoppy had the new frostwave pedal there if you wanna see it for yourself. Nice.

When you switch the PSU off, does it actually stop giving power? I'm thinking maybe the 5v is off but the 12v is still on or something?

I've been lurking that forum for years, finally need to post, and now I've been waiting like a month to get nameised to join :( -

Success! So are you going to let us in on your secret project then? ;) -
Heh, I've been searching for one since I saw this project begin ;) Nice work jack!

Very nice, just what the Doctor (Bunsen) ordered! Hope they go cheap!! illy, thanks for the offer mate!! :D I was lucky and found one locally for AUD$175, which is like 80 euro, and after shipping works out about 10-20 euro more expensive in the long run... But the one I scored is the best condition I've ever seen :)

Did you change to a non-ACPI motherboard when installing winxp on the mac? I know nothing about macs or certainly running xp on them, but if it isn't being detected, ACPI could be to blame... You should turn that crap off for a DAW anyway :) Or do what AC said ;)

mmm documentation. Tasty. Thanks dcer! :)
