  2. Oh yeh thanks very much for the vote of confidence, buddy ;D Yeh I was thinking MIDI-OX etc... And also wondering if it's another one of those evil USB interfaces... But I was trying not to make a speech about USB again ;) I thought that the incoming messages might hint at the location of the fault, either that the messages were normal, with some missing/corrupt bytes, like a bad solder joint on the midi connector on core; or random, like a cable/connector fault; or totally corrupt, like an interface/driver thing... Something I should add: Uhm, no it doesn't. It proves that the LCD works. You could have a bad solder joint on the midi interface and that wouldn't cause any problems there. Hey, you did change the crystal over when you put in the PIC18 right?
  3. Hey all I've noticed that in just a few days time, after over 5 years of giving, TK will reach a total of 5000 posts on this forum. I was thinking that such a milestone seemed to call for some form of recognition. If anyone has any other ideas (which I know a few do) then please speak up, but I was thinking of a 'donation drive'. There are almost 2500 users on this forum. Assuming 3/4 of them are inactive, even if everyone just donates a single dollar that's a pretty respectable sum of money. Anyone who can afford internet access has no excuse to say they can't afford $1. I'd rather keep it simple, say, we just pick a time and everyone dumps cash on TK at that time of day, on the day he hits 5000, or something :) So whadda ya say people? I know everyone loves TK, let's get together on this one and say a really big thankyou :) [glow=yellow,2,3000]Midnight UTC tuesday night/wednesday morning is the time, and the PayPal Development Button in the top right corner of this page is the place [/glow]
  4. Crikey if TK couldn't fix it I don't stand much chance but I'll try... Do you have an example of the unexpected sysex sent by the core during upload? What does the LCD do during all this? I'd be looking at the MIDI Interface and connections, or maybe power, just to hazard a guess....
  5. "Lookit go round and round....It's like it's changing the music man" "Dude, it IS changing the music" "Wow, cool maaan. I love this song too, who's it by?" "You, you're on stage man...." "Wow coool. Look this thing go round and round....It's like it's changing the music man...."
  6. 2) the 16F88 is used as an IIC slave to the PIC18F4620. The 4620 is the core and that passes midi messages over the IIC buss (normally used for banksticks) and then the 16F88 sends MIDI out. You can find more info on that at the wiki or ucapps pages for the modules. 1) Well the idea of 8x12 is that you get 8 steps from 12 tracks or semitones available. 12 semitones to an octave is why I chose 12... I guess you could have 16 if you wanted to... Edit: I've put charts on the wiki page to explain what I mean. Hope that helps :)
  7. Selling hardware doesn't kill a piracy problem because pirates will just use something else. What, you think that the pirate will suddenly find piles of cash to spend on hardware? ;) 80% of software pirates are poor mf's who can't even afford windows.... People don't pirate cause they want to, they pirate cause it's the only way they can get the software. Yes, there are a few dodgy studios out there, but most of the people who steal the software, would never have had enough money to buy it anyway. It's not the problem the manufacturers make it out to be. Anyway back to the subject, from what I hear, it's using a korg proprietry protocol over USB, not midi.... But I could be misinformed.
  8. Should be pretty easy. Once you've got the box up and working you should only have to write a few lines of code - ASM though, not C.... The MB64(e) apps aren't written in C.
  9. Lemur... Honestly although the concept seems really useful and cool I don't think I could actually think of a practical example of a way to use the thing... Plus at that price it's beyond the reach of 99% of the kind of musicians it's supposed to cater to. What a toss. You can do that with a midibox :)
  10. Well you'd have 12 + 12 = 24, as was said to you, you said it was 22.5, I'm guessing that is because there is a voltage drop across the diodes in the rectifier, and you have taken the measurement from the circuitry after the rectifier.
  11. http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/B/4/0/C/B40C800.shtml and http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/B/8/0/C/B80C1500.shtml According to those, you've got a higher spec, it shouldn't be a problem. Might've cost a little more I suspect. 16V might be OK but if the design says 25 then I'd go 25... Not worth nuking your PIC to save a few cents on a cap huh.
  12. just a heads-up, dcx.... Edited posts do not show up as unread, even though they are, so it's best to make a new post if you want to draw attention to it :)
  13. heheheh Hi Charles! That makes me think your PSU might be no good. If you connect everything up exactly as the PDF says, you should be right to go... Seeing as this is kinda new to you, I think it's best if you just do what the PDF says.... It should work, and if it doesn't, either you did something wrong or something is broken :( Just follow the diagrams and test the voltages afterwards...
  14. Shouldn't be too hard to do but the real problem for me is that projectors are out of my price range :(
  15. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Microchip-PIC16F88-microcontroller-4-Four-off_W0QQitemZ7627632320QQcategoryZ105797QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Cheap PICs in .au for your IIC_MIDI/SpeakJet/etc :)
  16. Thanks man :) It's very easy... Click this link: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=clearmind It will say "this page does not exist yet...." Click 'Create this page', and you can edit it as you go. The way the wiki works, is that you just make a hyperlink to a page, and if it doesn't exist, then you can click 'Create this page' :) Hope this helps!
  17. Yeh they should have more realistic tests, like, half of the musicians also have sticky ganja residue on their fingers ;)
  18. Bogus :( Are the x-y pads the same? I would imagine so .....
  19. Just checking :) You didn't mention "x4" so I thought I should be sure....You're right on the money man :) Hehe I know what you mean, I have a z600, same craaaaappy camera! :-\ But that layout gfx looks pretty :)
  20. Binary complement sounds about right to me... What about ANDWF?
  21. Post Removed. I think I made my point, no need to leave someones blood all over the forum ;)
  22. Could you put the code on the wiki? :)
  23. That'd be after the rectifier yeh?
  24. Nah the one on the development board is an AL3101 if memory serves, it's an alesis proprietry DSP, all digital. Not that that's a bad thing IMO, I honestly don't prefer analog over digital as most do. Those FPAA's are all analog signal path, but the path is programmable so you can build synth circuits with them. Mental. I have absolutely no f*ing idea how they do that but I reckon it's clever as all get out. But hey, just when I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread, I go visit the site, and stumble across the new product line. FPAA is old news. Check it: No more static programming, you can reconfigure the things on the fly from a micro. I waaaant one!!!
  25. It's EVIL I tell you, USB is like a big nasty hardware virus. yuk! .... It's the Terminator of the serial busses, it's going to go self-aware and nuke us all ;)
