  1. That thing is so ghetto .... It sure has character :) Those buttons remind me of streetfighter... Am I close? ;D
  2. perl is an application that runs from the command prompt. It runs scripts (like hex2syx.pl) which take a file as an input, and output a new file based on the parameters you specify. the "-os_upload update_without_installed_mios.hex" parameter tells hex2syx.pl to create a syx file for an OS (operating system) upload, from the input file named update_without_installed_mios.hex. The command prompt is the name for the shell of the windows and dos operating systems.
  3. You do mean AINx4 and DINx4 and DOUTx4 yeh? 1 - Search the forum :) 2 - See the page for the appropriate module at ucapps.de 3 - I'm sure that will be fine with everyone, it's a common practice. You can also feel free to create pages on the wiki under the user space. I Look forward to reading it :)
  4. 1 - Click Start... Run... and type CMD and hit enter. It's a "DOS prompt". 2 - Type "CD <directory name>". For example, to get to c:\temp\mios\ c: cd\ cd temp cd mios or c: cd c:\temp\mios 3 - The application is the MIOS application you have downloaded and extracted (from the zip file) and edited, like MBSID 4 - yes 5 - It means don't skip that text, be sure to type it! Not meaning to be rude but 1 and 2 are basic Microsoft DOS or Windows knowledge, you might get more enjoyment (or at least less frustration) out of your PC if you do a short course (like a one or two day course) or something... the answer to 3 is on the wiki, have you read all of that? it's pretty good I think :)
  5. Wouldn't that be PC soundcard users? ;)
  6. Oh, and my wiki page has been updated so that others can learn from this... http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=stryd_one_preparation#accessories
  7. Please understand that I can't just go and make the firmware up for you, because if I do it for one person, then all will expect the same, and I will end up spending the rest of my life clicking 'build' hehehe... However, if you would like to take some contruction photos and put them on the wiki then I would be more than happy to return the favour with a nice hex file for you :) It did occur to me that if you are limited in your availability to transfer data, then you might have trouble sending the images to the wiki.... So I thought that maybe if you have a friend or relative nearby, you could ask them to download and burn the necessary tools to a CD and mail them to you...
  8. I think it comes down to your personal preference wieghed against the pro's and con's of each approach.
  9. Yeh they're called knobs :) ... just that they're bigger. Search eBay for 52mm knob, you'll see what I mean
  10. Too slow mate, I already ordered a few sizes of concentric circular pots :)
  11. I'll make you a deal kobayashi.... You write some doco like you said and I will alter and compile the app for you, and email it to you :)
  12. Wrong Java. That's the java developers kit not the runtime... But I think J2SE (which is what you need) is included in JDK, so you might be OK. I would download the J2SE again to be sure. For Perl (not Pearl) you need to download and install activeperl. See my page on the wiki for links and installation instructions. Did you try the workaround as suggested by TK? What were your results?
  13. That's right rio, but the 4620 needs IIC MIDI module too.
  14. .....plus, you'd never get to play with your MIDIBox if you fried yourself ;D (Just couldn't be so serious any longer!)
  15. :o Damn that is scary! I'm just gonna quote myself on the wiki: You were lucky this time......... Please be careful! Be it something trivial, like no taking time to back up files and losing them, or not putting on a grounding strap and frying your motherboard, or something serious, like not taking time to put the tools away and shorting an extremely large capacitor with a metal screwdriver held in your hand while you're taking a break (that was me), I think many of us will have fallen victim to our impatience, at some time or other in our electronics experience. I mean.... when we ask ourselves "Do I really need to spend $500 on a bench when I've got this one here?", we are so busy thinking "ooh I can't wait to have my midibox!", that we rarely also consider, "Well gee, this desk could actually be really dangerous, imagine how sad my Wife would feel if I were dead?" :'(
  16. gday Tom:) Possibly, but one would need to see the datasheet to know. http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp/mbhp_lcd.pdf or http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp_lcd.html for more... but again you need to know the pinouts of the LCD That darned datasheet again :-\ You could try, but if it's not wired right, you might well blow the thing up. If it was a 14 pin connect and a 16pin IDC then two of the wires would be left unused...which ones? Where did I put that datasheet? ;) Not yet, are you volunteering? ;D
  17. You can use thinner plexiglas if you support it underneath...
  18. Sensofoil? sehr interessant! ;D (traurig für meinen armen 'babelfish' Deutschen! heheh)
  19. Everyone makes mistakes and misses the buried links from time to time... But you were polite and friendly so I don't think anyone around here will have any beef with you :)
  20. It is a removing a feature, because as it is now, you have master meters shown for all sids. What you are suggesting is to remove the master meters when editing the slaves. If you know that the meters always display the levels of the master, then I don't see why it's so annoying. As for only showing the meters when they are routed to a target, I think that is not an improvement either... I'd rather be able to see the meters so that I can visualise the synthesis prior to engaging it. This kind of thing is especially useful in live setups.
  21. Yep, the 452 does not have the RAM or codespace required for all the cool new features 1) If the 4620 was the master you'd need an IIC mid out, but otherwise yes (I assume you mean a V1 SID?) 2) If the slaves require less code than the master then the slaves might run on a 452... That's one for TK ;) 3) He's magical hehehehe serious though, risers are handy for that, you can stack the boards up 4) Another one for TK but I'm pretty sure he said that he won't be developing MBSID v1.x after 1.7.303 goes final 5) Yep, TK has considered those who already have a v1 SID :)
  22. Just in case you forgot why were discussing this. TK asked for our objections, I'm giving mine.
  23. not for this project, but i've done enough to tell you that it's more than just one flag, you've got to have code in there to do something with it. and you still didn't answer my question....but your response indicates that you missed the point which is that no matter how small or simple it is, it's code space (and ram) that could probably find a far more beneficial use than removing somthing which isn't that big a problem. are you copping attitude at me or what? Cause it sure sounds like it !
