in my mb-6582, the sids get pretty hot. uncomfortable to touch, but not painfull (make sure you don't discharge static electricity if you try this *whack*) i picked up some heatsinks that are almost the right size, but don't have any cement to glue them down yet, so i run the loud fan, which helps considerably

unless i'm misunderstanding you, several folks have modified the scan matrix example to do this. for this you only need 1 din shift register and 2 dout shift registers... (or 1/4 of a DINx4 and 1/2 of a DOUTx4) this does entail using a diode on each switch...

hmmm, how about a jumper on each? this way it would be trivial to configure for the uln and fairly easy to configure for the udn...

i strongly suggest that you reconsider that statement..

don't forget this is an embedded system, with severe resource limitations. i'm a big fan of OOP, but not for PIC...

i found they give a bit less resistance than the alps and alphas, but i like it better this way. there is enough resistance to hold them in a particular position, but they are easier to move. i had to replace 3 alphas in my mb-6582 already (some of the tabs broke off) too bad, though, that now i want to replace the other 12 so they match in feel. these things are a major PITA to remove, even after cutting the leads off...

as for me, i didn't point out anything that had an obvious workaround... (you were busy enough, no?)
