  1. After going to the local green grocer yesterday and seeing there till/scales, I thought that the keyboards that are used on POS systems would be perfect for large array of buttons on a MB. Most of them have clear plastic caps which can be removed to put labels underneath.

... make shure to keep the electronics of the POS keyboard! I use it to map different keyboard shortcuts of functions not available by the host's midi-implementation as "one-button"-commands (instead of always pressing: ctr+C, ctrl+V etc.)

  2. I read that those meters aren't so accurate anyway, so is there any point in adding resolution to an already inacccurate meter?

    I really don't know what I'm talking about ;)

... do they have to be accurate? Since recording with 24bits, your target is to know approximately where you are and that you don't clip.

While mixing with 32bits floating you probably never run out of "headroom" and when it comes to the Mixdown, you'll check your host's master meters so you don't peak the DA converters.

The crap with clipping within the digital domain of your system you only suffer with the poorest DAW system on the market... ProTools  :P - 32bits FIX.

  3. K if I don’t use motor faders and use plain faders and plain pots, then if I mix a session in cubase and then save and close it, return the midibox setings to zero and then load the mix session that I just closed, what would happen?  I’m guessing the settings in the cubase session would be the way I saved them, but since the midibox controls are back to zero how would I continue?

... exactly. And when you move the pots on the controller a bit, the value in Cubase jumps to the value of the pot. That's why everybody (also the mixer manufacturers) uses endless encoders with LED-Rings for automated mixer control... except of Fairlight: They're using motorized pots in their Dream-Series Mixers.

  4. I can't understand if it is the DAW which doesn't send the info to turn on the bank/channel buttons leds or if I made a mistake in the wirings.

... use MIDIOX to check about your host is sending the appropriate information

  5. if 1 port supports 8 channels the how do those monster 24 fader midiboxes work?  use more than one midi port on the same pc?

    ... yepp, 1 port for 8 faders

I have a new set of confusions in addition to the previous ones, which I still haves solved yet.  I know I can connect the 3 cores with wires. But after I do, would I need to do additional programming to make the 3 work as one?  I’m a lil confused about how midi merger works.  Would I require midimerger?

... see above! - each core connects over it's own port to the host

Is building a 3 core midibox a difficult project for a first timer?

    ... yes  :P

  6. If I use normal fader and not motorized ones will my design then be correct with 2 core modules

...I dn't know Cubase but many DAWs only support 8 Channels per MIDI port.

do I need an LTC module

...No, it's just a MIDI Interface over your computer's COM port

    I add the LCD module?

    ...Yes - Debugging

How do I make a digit display that shows bars beats and tick/hours minutes and seconds?

This website has gotten me damn excited!!!

    ... same for us  ;)

I want to have a perfect design on paper before I start the actual build

    ... good luck

  7. I don't have the plans yet...

And I'm not building it into an existing console :S

First I will do a normal MIDIBox LC, and than trial and error, how to make it work as a analog mixer.

I was hoping i could get plans for something like an SSL 4000 or 9000. Maybe I could even get some clues how to get rid of the noise there (and build it too!).

I would still like at leat 8 busses and 8 auxes... :-\

    Borut

... trial and error is how the "big boys" are doing it too at the end. Like DOC wrote, there are designing rules but that's not the whole real life. Sometimes there has just a transformer to be turned by 90° to get rid of a problems on a PCB. That's why everybody is prototyping  ;)

  8. Hello all!

First of all, thank you for this amazing project!

I'm thinking about building a costum analog console.

I don't know alot about this project or all the possibilityes of it, so I'd like to ask you midibox gurus,

Would it be possible to use it for automation?

    Any way at all?

    Thank you all!

... to tell you, that you're at the right place (at least for the controlling part of the console): Yes you can.

I think nobody has done it yet. Search the forum, there are some postings around, discussing your interrest.

Try searching with "mf", "log" and "fader".

  9. an d not merely posting for sheer numbers.

... are you shure? You just posted twice in this thread for nothing.  ;)

Common guys! Reading this whole thread took me more time than reading or better overlook the nonsense responses.

Greets, Roger ... and I'm not pissed off :-*

  13. Cool!!!

Even I just bought ProTools LE only for staying in "expert-user-shape" since I'm not working professional on the TDM anymore at this time (most jobs require PT experience these days  :( )... now I can use a MidiBox for keeping up the fun  :)

    Thank you for the effort!

  14. 1. If I have a midiboard with 8 channels (faders ... mute, solo, pan, gain, meterbridge) ... is there the opportunity to switch between channel 1-8; 9-16.... like it is in the digital consoles

... yes: "Bank" left or right

    2. is it possible to work with a "master channel section" ... that I just have one eq controller where I can choose the channel to edit  ( the same for fx sends ... )

... I think it's over the "V-Pots" (see Mackie implementation)

    2. b.: is this also possible for the vst plugins  ... can I have one dynamics section where I can choose which channels I want to edit???

... I think it's as well over the "V-Pots" (see Mackie implementation)
