  1. So... I havent checked this site in a few months... there any news on the kits from smashtv? THanks guys!!!
  2. yeah no biggie... I just started rounding up parts last nite. Ordered my tactile switches, and led fan with cover. Next is LED's, Case, rotaries. (and I have 2 of wilbas 6582 sids and a 6581) What are people doing about the front panel? I'd like to have FPE just make mine on some anodized aluminum. I also thought about getting the FPE to them but not putting any text or anything (just having them drill holes) and I was going to acid etch it all. Might look cool and save me some $$$$
  3. I'll take a kit for control and base with pics AND PCBS.... Need to get this sucker going. :)
  4. No sweat wilba! I'm still hunting down parts and such.... plus I'm waiting for the pcb pair to get rolling as well. :)
  5. I just emailed wilba for 1 set of pcb's. I CAN'T WAIT TO START ORDERING PARTS AND AN LCD!!!
  6. I'm extremely interested in doing this.... However, I have 1 6581 chip and I just ordered 2 of the 6582's from the wilba. So for now... I'm going to just roll with 3 chips. 6581 for dirty mono stuff and then 6582 for the stereo stuff. Is it worth it to buy the 2 pcbs for the mb-6582 and just run the midisid with 3 untill eventually i buy more from wilba and filler up? Or... just do all the individual sid kits, core kits... yada yada yada.....? Thanks guys! I cant wait to start!!!
  7. Wilba my brother, I'm sure you have the sids going out in the mail soon right? I can't wait! Only thing I'm hoping is... since I'm not using them right away, and they will sit on the shelf for a few months most likely.. is there any other way to test them when I get them versus pluging them into the board? Thanks so much! :)
  8. Wilba, I just sent an email for an order of 2 of them. Thanks in advance bro! :)
  9. Shit... hope you still have 2 of them next friday so I can snagem!!!! =o
  10. I'm about to order parts for my v2 sid to be and I"m wondering... Do you guys reccomend only using the 8580's now adays with v2 or would it still be okay to use 2 8580's for a stereo pair and then a pair of 6581's. I only have 1 8581 sid right now and I have to get all the solder off the legs. so i'm in the hunt for chips. Thanks! :)
  11. So... I've only got 1 6581 sid chip so far. I'd like to do the stereo setup using 2 of the sid's but... i should prolly have 8580's in there instead so... I need to track down 1 more 6581 and 2 8580's... it's getting hard these days. I can't see spending 40 bucks on a commodore just to ge 1 chip that might be the wrong one I'm looking for anyway, lol. Now... is it safe to start working on the V2 one? I'd rather be able to have 4 seperate mono signals or 2 stereo's using a pair of each of the different chips. I just saw it is in beta so... Just making sure the partslist are all finalized so I can start on this baby! Thanks so much guys! :D
  12. I should be okay... I"m going to use a dremel with a cutoff and get each pin seperated from the pcb, then I can with pliers and a soldering iron just heat up the little piece of pcb on each pin and pull one off at a time. I need to find a 8580... guess I need to track down a C64 C? Now... I need a Core module kit, Sid Kit, DIN kit and a 20x2 LCD. Ribbon cable and.... anything else from coinop for a first order? hmmm... 2 female midi jacks I guess for the back panel. Here is the Design for Mr.SID so far. :)
  13. So.. when I'm ordering the Core kit online... which pic should I have it sent with? There is 3 or 4 to choose from. Little confused on that... I'll probably order my DIN/SID/CORE kits in a week or so. WOO HOO, cant wait to start building! Gotta dig out my 6581 though.. it's soldered directly to the board so I need to bust out the dremel and be VERRRY carefull!!!!! Is there a way to test the sid chip itself to make sure it's a good one before I hook up the sid as a synth? OH!!!! So...my Commodore didnt come with a powersupply... that kind of sucks. Is there another option I can go without having to track down a commodore power supply? THANKS EVERYONE SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
  14. oh....wow, no shit. That's amazing... so I could upload the SID software with a DAW via midi? Also... which module do I use to posess the midi in out? That coming off the core?
  15. Hmm... guess i'll have to use a buddies PC to upload the software. I guess I'll need a pc that has serial out?
  16. So i'm about to order my SID and CORE kit from AVI showtech and.... little confused. For the SID which PIC should I order it with and PIC ID Headers? ALSO I'm not going to be able to link this to my computer from uploading software and such (I'm on a MAC) So... will I be okay or? Thanks! :)
  17. Yeah guys it's time to start working on mine..... here is the schematic so far. So far only planned for the 1 6581 I have sitting next to me but.. in the future will get maxed out to 4. Just trieng to figure out how to implement a joystick since i cant code this thing myself... i'm on a mac and cant run the loader software. Also... what joystick from ELFA do you reccomend I've also found these so far http://www.bent-tronics.com/displayProductDocument.hg?productId=30&categoryId=2 as well as http://www.analoguehaven.com/doepfer/spareparts/joystick/ ... any comments on these as possible options? Thanks guys! :)
  18. Curious... did you use a premade box or? Also.. how did you mount the wood sides? This turned out beautiful man.. cant wait to start mine! :)
  19. So... I've decided that for right now.. I just want a single SID midibox.. which i already have a 6581 sitting here for. (Thought it's soldered on the board so... I have to be tricky.) NOW MY QUESTION.....is... hehe (sorry for the suspense) 1 Core module, 1 Sid module.. then do I NEED any other modules to keep this as a mono 1 voice synth? also... I can still use the matrix with the 99 leds for the 1 voice as well as all of the things needed in option C of the build...or are some of these just if you are going balls out with the 4 chips? Thanks guys.... Your about to se a badass acid etched front panel for this synth coming soon... woot woot, CANT WAIT TO START BUILDING HER!
  20. You've got to be kidding me.... so all the SID"s you guys are using.. have a socket connector that the pins go into which is then soldered to the board? I'm going to try and get it out... I'm thinking taking a dremel around the board at the sides of the sid then try to take off the pcb attached to each pin with pliers and carefully placed soldering iron. I'm scared already geting into the midibox sid...lol. I"ll keepyaz posted. Thankx! :)
  21. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo..... 2 things. 1> I got my first C64 in and I need to take out the sid 6581 but....... it's directly soldered the board, I thought it would be in a IC holder so... how do I take it out without messing up the chip? and 2>Do I need a power supply for each sid used or...just 1 solid one ? THANKS!!!!!!!
  22. Look... I just got what I believe as 2 6581's for ... 1 was 10.50 usa. with no power supply.. and another was 28.00 usa. I"m only doing a 2 sid synth anyway so... total invested so far 38.50. No biggie. Peace! Do you guys like the 6581's or the 8580's? The sid will be going thru my Frac Modular of Doom and a sherman filterbank anyway so..... just wondering. I dont feel like buying 5 more sids' to distinguish getting one of each chip, you know? THanks guys!
