  1. NO socket.. 6581 I used a solder sucker pump ($5) on each pin and then wiggled it to see which were still sticking. Sometimes you have to add a bit more solder to a joint to make a big enough glob to get good suction. It was a PITA, but its out and pretty clean, I hope it didnt get too hot, we'll see when(ever) I get this thing together! The only C64 Ive ever opened and its soldered in! Just my DIY luck. . ~Steve
  2. Great demo Thorsten! If that doesn't get the true SID heads drooling then I dont know what will. If I had one built Id be programming drum sounds!! great work ~Steve
  3. you can get a plate to mount your jigsaw to and run it upside down like a router table. You're at the pont where youre cutting square holes in sluminum sheet, you can probalby make one for yourself!! youd have to rig somethign up for the power though.. tape the trigger down and get a foot switch for the mains power. And for those who just need a hole or two you can get a fine tooth metal jig saw blade and grip it in visegrips and have at it. also, if you have a few extra bucks you can send shaeffer your panel and they can do just the square holes/slots and you can do the rest. just an idea i love metal. ~Steve
  4. Great concept.. Id love to see it hooked up to music at a party without anyone knowing.. It would be fun to see and listen. See how long it took before anyone noticed. also (sorry if this seems crude..) I have this DIY delay that makes the most human "farting" sounds.. How funny would it be if this sofa controlled the fart machine. anytime someone moved or got up or sat down.. lol lol lol haha sorry! thanks : ) Great Job! ~Steve
  5. Hey BcBox, any luck with these guys? Id be in for some switches if there was a minimum quantity you had to order. thanks ~Steve
  6. Allan, I think that the AOUT on the MboxSID is either derived from the software lfos's and EG's or incoming CC's. So you can connect the RES, the Cutoff, and whatever else you wanted to the AOUT ports. Im in your shoes (not yet built) and have questions myself, but plan on getting one goin then adding the rest and then going for the AOUT. I think there will be an "Official" release of the AOUT for SID (low cost R2R ladder DAC board) and until then Im holding tight here. Check down the list a few posts and youll find info about all of this, really. do a bit of digging. I read it all, forgot it the next day and then posted a question about it all the day after. DUH should have reread it. Sorry TK! BTW, mind sharing ideas about how you are going to enclose your MboxSId? have fun. ~Steve
  7. Yes you can play the SIDbox with a MIDI keyboard. Or any MIDI controller/sequencer/computer for that matter. Thats how it was designed to be controlled. You can control all of the parameters of the SID via MIDI CC messages, or with the computer editor (Jlib?) Or with the ocntrol surfaces knobs and buttons if you build it like that. With more than one SID you can have more sounds going at once, or layer the same sound twice, or play in stereo etc... with 4 SIDS you can have ALOT of sonic mayhem happening, all controllable on the fly (with MIDI) for keyboard, you could probably only use two at most (two hands, you'd need to split the keyboard MIDI messages) but with four you could have two sets of two, for a really thick sound.. the more the merrier!! Look for SmashTV's website to order boards and parts.. He'll probably ship to canada, just ask him. have fun!! ~Steve
  8. Thank you sir! ~Steve
  9. Hello all, I was wondering what the current status of AOUT is within the SID(&FM) code.. Was AOUT designed to be used with SID/FM and others as the only way to ge these voltages, or does the core+sid/fm support cv outs without the Aout board? Also I remember reading about CV ins for MBSID, routeable as an LFO.. is this in the current code? thanks for any clarification. ~Steve M
  10. you need to make sure that the order includes one Core board and parts.. ~Steve
  11. Xora, AFAIK, you can get PrintedCircuitBoards and the parts for the kits from SmashTV's website (check UcApps)..  youll still need a few parts besides whats in the kits, but maybe get the kits and start building and youll see what you need eventually. (some cable, jacks and a case, use your imagination here! ) Order the rest of the stuff later. (jameco.com or mouser.com) I dont know that Smash will actually program the pics fully for you, but he can burn the bootloader for you. AFAIK, the bootloader is what allows you to program the PIC via MIDI. So you build the box with the PIC w/the bootloader in it.. there is a MIDI dump utility prog on the ucapps site which will take the program files (also on ucapps site, dload them) and get them into midi code ready to burn.   You attach your device via MIDI cable to your computer, dump the code and hope for the best..  I have some boards and parts but havent started building yet.. Ive got another project that Im almost done with here, but SID is next!!!  So now you know as much as I do! : ) I think all you need for the most basic version is a core module and a SID module. you can get these boards and parts from smash TV site.. (except the SID chip, youll have to hunt for. Expect to pay around $20 for one) order away!! have fun! Good luck! ~Steve
  12. Ray Wilson, yeah! a great site for DIY'ers.. and he puts out some nice pcb's VCO, minisynth, sequencer set, etc.. I built a soundlab minisynth for a firend a few months ago. good luck and keep us posted ~Steve
  13. Gerald, I just had a look at the SHx8 board. so 64 CV outs! wow.. Imagine this thing behind the scenes in your modular, normalled to every jack.. you could have patch memory!!! (not knob settings of course) or patch morphing!! :o 64 cv outs seems a bit much though, but if smash included it on the boards, then hey, why not? were you realyl planniong to use more than the AOUT CV provided? ~Steve
  14. Hey Logo, count me in.. If the new design will be as accurate and stable as the old one with the 30$ IC's then thats great. If the new design is a compromise, then I think that sucks, personally. For what you are getting for the price, compared to commercial MIDI/cv units, even with the expensive chips it is way worth it! Im not sure if Smash planned on doing a run of the old ($$) AOUT module? thats the one i'd want. noob question: whats the SHx8 board for? is it integral to the MBoxCV unit? Any ideas on whats in the MBoxSID code concerning cv out/in? frack modular here too (Blacet), MBoxCV module planned, just waiting to see what is brewing here concerning AOUT before I commit to buying [arts, boards etc.. ~Steve -count me in! (post this in other sections of the forum!)
  15. Gb thanks for the info.. I have been thinking about MIDI/cv for a while now since I am almost done with my sequencer and my modular is about half done (will it ever really be done?) I really like the flexibility of the MidiBoxCV.. as for EFM in Houston, you may find that its no more than a guy with a computer, some spare time, a patient wife, and stacks of PCB's on a shelf! I cant imagine it being much more than that anyway... have fun ~Steve
  16. hey guys check out these two sites if you want just a filter board or whatever.. lots of analog synth modules available, you just have to figure out the power issues http://www.cgs.synth.net/ http://www.ele4music.com/ have fun, analog (and old digital) rules! ~Steve
  17. Great job Seppoman.. great case idea, grat paint job, great PCB/protoboard work. Heavy duty soldering!! : ) I like the stencil, and the knob/button choices go very well with the overall look of the device.. Theres actually alot of room inside, it looks like you could put two or three SID in there! (or half of a control surface! way to go! I hope to post pics of my MBsid on the forum someday.. cheers ~Steve
  18. gbeth, Id be interested to hear how the midiboxCV handles notes and cc's with regards to smoothness and accuracy of pitch. Did you build the full version with all the gate and cv outs? Did you spend the 25$ or so on each of the DAC's? Oh yeah, great job on your DIY synth!! looks like you have a bunch more space in that cabinet for modules !!!!! of course check out this site for module pcb's http://www.ele4music.com/ and http://www.cgs.synth.net/ I have been looking at building one of these for my modular synth, since it gives you alot more than a typical midi-cv converter, and hey thats what modular synths are about anyway, right ! ? wild patches! what are you using as a MIDI input? cheers ~Steve
  19. Yes, check out littlesounddj.com and nanoloop.com these are both gameboy synth/trackers.. Ive got littlesound DJ. lots of noisy fun, nailing those nintendo classics!! ~Steve
  20. So is the AOUT already in the mbSID code? Or will we need this upcoming AOUT-LC board for something?(besides making a neater job than by laying it out on protoboard.) Whats the resolution? It just gets better and better!! TK thanks again for sharing this hobby of yours with us! ~Steve
  21. Thorsten, Glad to see the SID continually updated!! I'm still awaiting my PCB's and parts, but this gives me time to think about panel layout and features etc. I'm still digesting your recent "Analog Input" update, and now this!! I vote for making it a switchable mode in software, on a per-sid basis. The keyboard would be nice, but only if it also was useful and helpful in the normal wavetable mode. In other words, who wants a row of buttons on their control surface when youre not using them for anything half of the time? Having a dedicated built-in sequencer on the Midibox SID would be awesome for sure!!! ~Steve M
  22. Okay.. thanks for the explanation Smash. sorry to pollute the forums for everyone else. Glad I posted though, so now everyone knows the status with Smash. (and dont worry, we know you're not a warehouse with robots and millions of parts, (Mouser, etc) and obviously aren't expecting that type of service...) thanks for the update! ~Steve
  23. Dont know if this is the place to post this but on Smash TV's site it says post all Q's to the forum.. so here's my question.. Did you get my PCB/parts order a week or two ago? I paypalled you.. have reciepts. thanks ~Steve M NJ USA
