the one that's now got just 1 osc working was fully operational at first IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY. but then i forgot to turn it off overnight and in the morning 2 oscs were dead. but i'm not 100% sure it was okay from the start.

DON'T bother with the JDM just build the broccoli18. it's like 1 cap and 1 resistor programmer and it worked for me after JDM nightmares (and for other people too) i really advise anyone that wants to program PIC18x to do it with the broccoli18.

hmm thanks alot for the in-depth comment and analysis. i'll try some more stuff tomorrow. another thing that got lost 2 posts ago (got cut off) - is it possible that lack of midi-in gnd connection is the fault for all this? is it possible that a hardware fault (a bad solder joint?) is causing such an error? okay on to the point. there really isn't a F#2off C-2on and three times CC#47 value 52 in the stream, i've checked both output dump of midiox and input dump and there simply isn't such combo. i guess it's safe to assume that the core got something else than i was trying to send it (correct me if i'm wrong) though there's a but from the looks of "80 24 00" and "90 1E 7F" i assume the last byte of each is velocity (first one is off and the second one is on-127) so i guess there's no mistake on your analysis :). about the note C-2 being stuck - i'm really not sure... i remember it was something not too high and not too low so i guess it's pretty possible it was C-2. but not for sure. i'll record it all for the next test and i'll choose the test notes and controller values more carefully. also - i'll try another midi interface i have (an M-AUDIO radium) and maybe i'll find out that one's okay... hmmm why the hell haven't i thought about that before?! actually it's quite possible that the ancient roland midi adapter i'm using mixes some stuff up! i'll check it out in the morning and report back. i hope it wasn't such a stupid mistake :-[ :-[ :-[

the bypass cap on DIN is okay but you're missing the GND->pin15 (CLI) connection. i'm not sure whether it's essential or not but that's the error i spotted. but i can see that GND line going quite more further so i don't think it's okay you forgot it. look: you forgot this step:

okay this is what's happening: i re-loaded the MBSID freshly. then i started the audio recording and cleared midi (output) monitor. then i played some random notes (TS 28712 - TS 34853) then i pressed "back" in midi sequencer (to reset to position zero - and apparently set all controlers to zero), pressed+released another note, and then started the sequencer. i don't deal with "patches" (or at least i think i don't) - i can load the MBSID application and just run the sequencer and the freeze occurs. (as i just found out) - samples coming right now.

yeah 50% is not bad - i bought them as broken c64's. so i guess i was even lucky. so far - i got 4 good SIDs out of 6 c64's well actually i'm not really sure about how good the filters are on the 6581's cause i don't have a good reference but let's say the 2 i have are good.

OnAcid: hmm maybe one of your filter caps is broken?

is it possible that i have a faulty sid - with just 1. OSC working? maybe there's something that can be fixed cause it has a really nice filter... it's a MOS 6581 3984. then i have another one broken - CSG 8580R5 2989 25 that just pops when a note is triggered (and you can hear some stuff going on in the background... can anything be done? what kind of errors/faults do your SID chips have? anyone ever fixed one?

ahh i see now. he forgot to connect (bridge) CLI to ground. then i put the cap between CLI and Vdd. but he can just add those 4 connections (isolated bridges) and i guess it'll be okay. i'm really not that sure though. i followed every step on ucapps and i got it right (that means my SIDs work. i haven't tested the DINs yet though :D

hmm on ucapps it says first bridge then bypass... but you've made the bridge with the bypass cap which isn't EXACTLY the same. but by no mean i'm sure it's wrong. someone else tell.

very nice! i'd love to have one of these. and if i get it right - you don't have to send your sids' output through that 4chan mixer and in that case you don't need that -12/+12V right?

i don't think that's the same problem tarzan boy... mine freezes completely at the note it was playing and i have to turn it off and back on. TK: if there's no feedback from the SID chip to core then is it maybe possible that the SID itself freezes? well it doesn't freeze completely since the osc's are still running... let me know what to prepare (sound sample of the freeze, screenshot of midiox output, ...) and i'll make it and send it to you (or post it here)

just anything really. i uploaded mios, then uploaded sid (latest version) and i just press a key on my keyboard and send a stream of CCs... and i'm there. is it possible that the sid chip is faulty? cause as it is now it really isn't very usable via midi. strange thing though - the jsynth tweaking is smooth enough and it never freezes. maybe jsynth works with sysex?

any ideas TK? i found out that i have to re-upload SID application everytime it freezes... and it also happens with pitchshifts (if there are many)... will this happen with the control surface too?

okay i tested this with MIOS 1.8 and SID 1.7 303beta9 it's still happening but only with 8580. the second core+sid 6581 is okay. hmm if you want i can send you a screenshot of midiox out-monitor. but it's really not that interesting - just a few CC sends for filter cutoff...
