  1. I don't know about this one... If you want a cheap iron, i would stick with Weller. THX, Jason D
  2. For project consideration, here's e-switch's new tiny joystick... Documentation.... http://www.e-switch.com/pdf/JS1200.pdf Actually a multidirection button, but hey, it's tiny and I think it's cool. THX, Jason D
  3. you are correct!! just happens to be what i have around thx, JD
  4. Also, I have a ton of 500k pots laying around. To use them as 10k, I simply put a 10k across the contacts. The result is having a non-linear 10k, where most of the action is in the first third or so of the turn range. But it works quite well! THX, JD
  5. I use Genesolve 2004, which is so good, it's acutally illegal to manufacture! But somehow I am able to buy it every year. THX, JD
  6. if you plan on shorting... i highly suggest using a resistor between 1~10 ohms for a *little* protection thx, jd
  7. Panasonic has some great product at low prices, i like their pots, too. Here's a useful link to the DIGIKEY catalog page with more information: http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/T062/1367.pdf Hope this helps, Jason D
  8. Seems that my LCD brightness adjust IS working, I didn't think it was becasue the adjust range really wasn't doing much. I'm good! THX, JD
  9. TK, Attempted to program within 2 seconds of power-on. Several attempts, consistant results as noted above. Swapped my 2nd CORE_R4 processor to my #1 CORE_R4 (known good), and had the exact same issue. Also noted more current draw from the voltage regulator... a little warmer than usual. Looks like a partially dead processor. THX, JD
  10. I'm having the same issue. Checked all the values, made sure my cable was wired correct, and i'm not getting a backlight. THX, JD
  11. Has anyone experienced this message when communicating with the CORE? Taken from the MIOS HEX FILE UPLOADER ----------------------------------------- Received error code 0B: MIDI IN Overrun Error Sending block 00005500-000055FF Error: Received unexpected Upload Request Sending block 00005500-000055FF Received error code 0B: MIDI IN Overrun Error Aborting after 3 errors Since my 1st CORE programmed normally, this was quite unexpected. I'll poke around the board a little more and see if there's more information. THX, JD
  12. **********UPDATE*************** Everything is cool now. I uploaded the MIOS 1.9 updater, and it worked. Next I uploaded the MIOS for M64, and everything is finally normal. Did not work when I uploaded M64 first, I had to do the update, and then M64. I hope this documentation can help someone in the future. THX, JD
  13. TK , Thanks for the advice. It magically started running normal, it was quite a relief to see your name on screen! So, to future users who experience this problem, jiggle the wires a bit. Turns out my wiring was correct. Having none of my other modules connected, it's constatly sending out midi messages, since nothing is grounded. That means everything is good! Time to finish those ribbon cables! And more pix soon. Cheers, Jason D
  14. I'm having the exact same problem, what was the solution? Noticed that when i probe the LCD pins (RS, E, D0~7,etc), there's nothing. Voltage is good, but I don't see any data or enables. THX, JD
  15. Nope, not a softscope! It's a Tektronix TDS3000 series. But I agree with you, softscopes are kick ass for the price. THX, JD
  16. *********UPDATE**************** Latest version of MIOS Studio seemed to do the trick!! Here we are finally with a good connection. My advice to other UC-33e users is to connect BOTH In's. And here we are after transfering main.hex from the MIOS 1.9: NOW..... LCD isn't displaying anything. Checked the pin connections, looks just fine. It's a VK2220 from SmashTV, perhaps i need to put a driver in the OS, or somehow select it.... More to come!! THANK YOU for the help! JD
  17. I noticed that too.... The Evolution UC-33e always shows up as two devices, both on my mac and PC. Tried MANY different combinations, using both entries, no luck. THX, JD
  18. I will attempt tomorrow, thank you for the reply. More data... the LCD (from SMASHTV) displays one row of all pixel's on, and the second row is blank. I attempted to upload MIOS update 1.9, and the MB64 main.hex, and no luck. I did see the data move through MIDI-OX, using the SYSEX to send it over. Also, don't know if this is important, but the IN and OUT monitor display the same data, looks like it is looping back to the puter. Will try the new version tomorrow. THX, JD
  19. Hi, LIST. Question... I'm having some trouble getting my computer to see the CORE_R4. I run MIOS studio with out a problem (excellent work, thank you for this wonderful tool!) , however, I'm wondering why sometimes i have solid lines connecting devices, and sometimes dashed? My guess is that dashed lines represent connections that should be, and solid lines are connections that are actually working. Is this the case? I can't seem to get the solid line anymore. I've tried several different devices as a USB->MIDI interface, and none of them seem to connect correctly. Using an oscilloscope, I can verify that the CORE-R4 is definitly transmiting a chirp (upload reqeust) every two seconds. Here..... BTW, if someone wants to add this capture to the WIKI for troubleshooting, that would be cool... and, this isn't really needed here, but this is a capture of the clock... again, if this can be added to the WIKI for troubleshooting, maybe it can help someone else... I've tried the Lexicon Omega interface, Tascam US122, and the Evolution UC-33e, all seem to be doing the same thing, not passing MIDI thru properly. Advise? Thanks a bunch, Jason D ********UPDATE*************** Midi-OX can see the chirp!! can MIDI-OX be used to upload the MIOS hex?
  20. lots of controls , it's huge nice job on the artwork, but what about something with better portability? thx, JD
  21. Thanks so much for the reply. I do have a DIN module, but i thought its only use was for LED's, which i wanted to implement later. Looks like I need to do more reading. It was my understanding that the bootloader's function is to help move MIOS onto the PIC, and the CORE is basically useless with just the bootloader on it. I was confused because on the MIOS download page, the first item is version 1.9 update, which to me looked like ONLY an update. But this is actually the whole latest, greatest MIOS, correct? Documentation on this project is terrific, but I still get stuck here and there. Thank you for the help! Jason Duerr
  22. Hello, LIST. I've got a pair of R4 Cores which are ready to be loaded with MIOS. I plan on using the Core with an LCD, 1 AIN, 1 AOUT. Could I upload the MB64 OS for use? What happens if I use this version without the other boards present? I more or less wish to test the functionality before I get all fancy. Would ultimatly like to have 32 buttons, 32 pots, LCD. Later I plan on using LED's with the DOUT, but I'd like to get my feet on the ground first. Lastly, if I happen to have a PIC18F programmer kit, can I upload the OS directly, without going through the MIDI interface? Please advise. THX, Jason Duerr
  23. I don't have any extras to play with , i'll try to get some more in. However, in general, I think it's better to just buy it with the LED installed , the price difference isn't much. Their PN is B3J-2X00 http://www.omron.com/ecb/products/sw/2/b3j.html digikey sells the LED ones for about 2.87 ea , and the normal are 1.61, so yes, it's more expensive. i'll see if i can take one apart and document it for you, maybe there's a non-destructive way of doing it THX, JD
  24. List... Omron B3J's ... which are actually quite cheap... Digikey pn's: Blue: sw2316-nd Orange: sw2314-nd Yellow: sw2315-nd Lt Gray: sw819-nd n'joy THX JD
