hi michael a bit of misunderstanding here: i am using the midibox_lc_v2_0_alpha1 app which is written in C, i presume if not i promise that i will go and take a bath in the fjord under the first rain! simone

S1: i said i got it working when i saw no error in the Xcode but then i realizaed there weren t filed on _output... anyway it s a result!! AC: no it s quite clear to me and that s not the problem I was thinking about this as well thanks for pointing this out it s something quite important to know. QUESTIONS: SDCC skeleton and LC C app. are independent, there is no reason why i should first load the SDCC files, build and then use the LC files... it s unclear to me why mkmk.pl and makefile.spec are not present in the LC application? LATEST INFOS: When i load the SDCC skeleton files it build properly and i get the Hello World thingy on the screen so it s all set up .. But if i load the LC (and change main.h) it won t create the project.hex or the ASM files in the build directory. I ve also tried to load first the SDCC files and then adding the LC files ,replacing when required (instead of replacing the whole application) and it builds and outputs the project.hex but it is still the HelloWorld app. I hope that this infos will help you to help me ;) to sort this out..meanwhile i am trying over and over again to see if i can spot the issue by myself .. As usual big thanks to you guys Simone

... take a little blob of tin in the tip of your soldering iron, put the component in place and keep it with one hand, put quickly some of the tin with the other hand (i mean with the iron of course) now the component is in place, solder properly the other pin of the component, then solder the pin with the "bad soldered" tin blob.. finito simone (i don t remember who you are but i learned this in the forum..) EDIT: txx Jimp wanna buy 25 of my errors? got plenty

hello world! there isn t a mkmk.pl file in the midibox_lc_v2_0_alpha1 tools folder so i moved it from the SDCC skeleton and now i have no errors on building but.. """""ok before i go ahead, please keep in mind that i have no experience at all in programming, everything for me i kinda new, i am reading/listening to those tutorials S1 was linking me to ;) So forgive me if i am asking every little thing which can be obvious for others but not for me and feel free to send me to learn some basic C first... """""" ...i don t get any new file: it builds but is not really generating any new file.Funny enough it actually did it only ONCE after a Xcode restart. ??? ??? tx simone

Sensorium, why don t you mess around with some 10$ intermittent leds kit instead of with the 100$ SmashTv kits? Consider also that this haven t a commercial purpose so you d better let other people acquire their kits instead of waiting in queue. Just my thought. Peace Simone

hi Sensorium it was a funny reading your Bio... i won t give out my personal myspace yet but here one i am taking care of, it s been a series of party/small electronic concert i ve been taking care of. It all started as a "secret" location party in a private villa and probably for that reason, together with the appearance of the very owner of Klitekture Records, LOD DJing for a selected public who had to request a map via Email to get there, it turneD out quite well.Well we had a couple of phone calls by the neighbors but that was in the schedule somehow.. I am working for the next date which is going to be probably the 18th of Octuber. here it is: http://www.myspace.com/dronedoors Now, the game: there are a few pictures on this myspace, if you can spot me out you win one of the following items, at your choice: -1 used Intel Celeron Mobile CPU 2.48 Ghz -1 used Powerbook battery -1 bag of different leds and switches (new) -1 firewire cable Have fun! hi please refer to the following thread: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=9627.msg71985#msg71985 the 2 threads are running uselessly together i think we should keep on here in Tips n Tricks. I am very satisfied with this set up and the work sped up here a rendered image of the front panel, the sub panel and the different PCBs imported from Eagle. Dark blue is the front panel Light blue is the subpanel Black are the PCBs and dimensions traces Consider that all layer have a 30% opacity you can visually check all the alignment so you are sure that you won t have a surprise.. for example right now just previewing the image i ve found out a hole that is not aligned, just on the left of the first fader.. I d like to have a "reload layers" function in Gimp maybe it is possible with AppleScript, that would eventually speed up the process even more. Simone

ok now the sdcc is ok but ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

sorry for the too quick reply but ain t no time here :P anyway do a search for Denon- traktor etc i remember this guy doing such a nice job ripping apart an old 2 decks denon dj cd player, pulling the parts, making new pcbs and reassembling everything together.. was that MTE ? simone

hi and welcome aboard yes yes true well you need 10K linear pots and faders but you can get cheap ones if you ll need to change them so no worries it s a good idea, casing and knobs are quite expensive and difficult to find so there you go, read read read, check the wiki as well, lots of infos there, good luck and keep us uptodate with further development simone

uhmmm ... ..nnn... ehhmm... ...will the acrylic screen deflect on some angle the view? (yes it does i have a little piece here and i ve tested it right away, i can see it will deflect about 1-1.5mm from the real position, that s good!! ) ..i think i will give it a 2 mm extraand have nice roundish corners txx simone

hi this is for those ones who s already made cnc front panels with GLCDs: if you have a GLCD in a 1.5mm front panel with a 3mm acrylic window, how will be make the aperture for the display: same as the display s screen as in the datasheet or slightly bigger and if bigger how much bigger? txx simone

ok here we go i ve found the trick: I assume you have a front panel designed in Inkscape and a few PCBs designed in Eagle, and that you also have Gimp installed, but with the proper changes this system will work with other softwares. -Take note of the panel dimensions and export the Inkscape project to a .png -Create your PCB with Eagle, with dimensions, holes and everything, then add a second dimension=front panel dimension and place it at (0:0) and do a CAM job with output to EPS -Since Eagle indexes parts from their center and Inkscape from the left/down corner you ll need to add/subtract the x/y value accordingly. For example if a 8mm circle in Eagle is placed at (40:60) it will be placed at (44:64) in Inkscape -Open the .png in Gimp then open as a layer the .eps and possibly lower the opacity so that you can make a visual check of alignment, since the .eps file has the same dimensions of the front panel it will be automatically aligned. -When you are ready you can delete the front panel dimension in Eagle and print the board out Simone

Do you need a special mac hard disk for your internal boot disk in a G4?
cimo replied to Steven_C's topic in Miscellaneous
..any hard drive compatible with the interface will do.. there isn t a specific Apple hard drive for G4s, as mentioned if you are going to install OSX any file system previously installed will be overwritten.. simone -
hi i ve saved a board as .eps file and and an Inkscape project as an image (png) and loaded the 2 in Gimp.It works and you can work on panel with Inkscape, the PCBs in Eagle and check the result together in Gimp. Simone
-
hi i ve exported an image of an Eagle PCB (90dpi) and imported it in Inkscape but alignment is all *filtered* up !! :D any idea what could be wrong? Also if i export Inkscape to image and Eagle to image and import the 2 images in Gimp they won t align properly. ??? ??? simone

hi in my MBLC in OSX with MIOS Studio the LCD gets stuck and even Mios studio and the whole system hang if i don t ground the AINs when they are activated in the application... Simone

..it took me a little while but i ve come up with an "almost final" design: Faders are 60mm non-motorized Encoders have a switch. Buttons are 15X15 mm Joystick are PS2 style with detached spring 4 direction switch is a Navimec Jog wheel is 45 mm Inside a MBLC and a MB64 merged with a MidiSport 2X2 (or similar), it s been designed to be used with Live! as a djing controller in GPC mode with the help of the MB64 for joysticks, tracks EQs and X fading; in LC mode it will be used for production. My hope is to be able to modify the code to have all the 16 encoders values and icons visualized in the GLCDs. The buttons are all back lit with bicolor (or 2 per button) leds, probably blue and red. In LC mode the 2 rows of 8 buttons in the bottom, will be solo/mute and rec/select buttons (layer0 and layer1), the 10 buttons on the right will have different functions (layer, GPC/LC, transport, track-plugin, track-send, etc). Layer0 will be connected to blue leds, layer1 to red leds; that means that if both functions of layer0 and layer1 of the same button will be enabled the color of the button will be purple or something. The "layer" button will always be either red or blue, decals will help to understand what s going on. In GPC mode all the buttons will be used as generic midi control. The 2 rows of 8 buttons will be used to trigger plugins, the others for anything else. I have a question now: in LC mode i can assign the IDs of the buttons to arbitrary DIN e DOUT pins, in GPC mode i am restricted to the combination of DIN pin1 to DOUT pin1, DIN pin2 to DOUT pin2, etc.; i won t be able to use the second color of the leds, only one assignment per switch is possible.Has anybody thought about this? Has anybody a good hack for it? Any comment is very welcome, not only about this matter but also about the general idea of the box.For example i am a little bit concerned with the distances among each element, everything is quite tight at the moment. ...speak up! so before going on with Xcode i checked if the necessary packages were installed: when i first installed sdcc it worked and i got an answer to sdcc -v but now i get this Last login: Wed Jul 4 17:44:15 on ttyp1 Welcome to Darwin! simone-marins-powerbook-g4-12:~ simonemarin$ sdcc -v -bash: sdcc: command not found simone-marins-powerbook-g4-12:~ simonemarin$ echo $PATH /sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin simone-marins-powerbook-g4-12:~ simonemarin$ PATH=:</sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin>:/usr/local/bin -bash: /sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin: No such file or directory simone-marins-powerbook-g4-12:~ simonemarin$ simone-marins-powerbook-g4-12:~ simonemarin$ echo $PATH : simone-marins-powerbook-g4-12:~ simonemarin$ any idea? simone

hi from today i jump on this bandwagon... ;) AC thanks for the SDCC and the wiki, very usefull.. it saved me a few hours for sure so i set up everything very easily, no debugging stuff iwill try that later, i want to start coding.. my question is very basic and simple: when i build i should get a new project.hex and project.syx files, right? where is Xcode IDE putting those files? txx simone EDIT: hold on there are errors given out by the compiler when i try to build the Makefile, same as for fluxivity, i am downloading the addictional packages and then we ll see.
