  1. This thread might be good!
  2. Well that worked for a bit. The ribbon connections seemed to be the only problem. But of course when I put the faceplate back on and powered on, the whole thing went nuts. I'll keep redoing the ribbon joints till it works, thanks! Er, actually it seems this time it was the LCD shorting out on the control surface board. That's caused some problems before. I taped off what I thought were the problem spots, but apparently that didn't work, so I loosened the screws holding the LCD to the board. and in the case of the OTHER MB8582 (the decreasing release/pulsewidth knob), I couldn't find anything wrong with the ribbon cables or the LCD, but replacing the rotary encoder worked.
  3. The "sustain" knob only INCREASES values, whether I turn it right or left. This applies to the default sustain value that it controls, and also any value that I set it to edit. I tried replacing the rotary encoder, but got the same result with the new encoder. The top row of the LED matrix does not work. It doesn't light up on power up, or when I press the button for that row. I have a different MB6582 with a similar problem: the Release/Pulsewidth knob only decreases values, whether it's turned right or left. (All else seems good on that one.)
  4. So the final price is 256EUR + Shipping?
  5. ooh, that might be a bit expensive. I'm in the United States, so the prices you listed would come out to be very expensive for me. Would it be worth it for you to sell it for less than $200 USD? It might be a better deal for both of us if you just list it on ebay, and I wait for another person selling a kit.
  6. I emailed Jason a while ago asking about sammichFM, but he didn't respond. I see that most of the batches went out quite a while ago. Anyone know the status of a possible new batch? Or by any chance, does anyone have a kit or completed FM that they don't want any more?
  7. ooh what's a Wilba FM? Are there plans for that somewhere?
  8. That's a very helpful video, thanks!
  9. hahaha that would take me years! I can't stand programming. Thanks, guys, I'll look into your links.
  10. Hello! I made a few MIDIbox SIDs, but this is my first time in the FM section. My friend and I are in a video game cover band (Kirby's Dream Band), and he's really into the sounds of the Sega Genesis, which uses a Yamaha FM sound chip. Example: We asked around, and it seems the best option for emulating that is the Yamaha DX7IID: The sound samples on the ucapps MIDIbox FM page don't sound very much like either of these examples, but is it possible to create patches like the ones above?
  11. I've been reading up on building distortion pedals for guitar. Apparently the types of capacitors, transistors and diodes have a huge effect on how the pedal will sound. Even just using different components of the same value, but made of different materials (ie film capacitor vs ceramic capacitor) will change the sound. Is this true of any of the components in the MIDIbox SID?
  12. I found this: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Alpha-Taiwan/RE160F-40E3-20A-24P/?qs=yA6kp8fx8Y7zlmuFqx9z8g%3d%3d But let Wilba or someone confirm it, or better yet, give you a part number. Also: lulz, the "Customers who bought this also bought" section is pretty much a parts list for the MB-6582.
  13. ok here we go. From M-audio:
  14. I tried a few drivers. My OS REALLY doesn't like the older versions. Programs crash when I use them. M-Audio says there are no older drivers available, and I can't find the exact driver that I use with my old computer. I'm currently sending emails back and forth with them. Last thing they told me was to use the program MIDI Monitor to test MIDI in and out. I still don't see why the driver would be the problem. It works fine in every other way, including sending and receiving MIDI messages to Pro Tools and Finale. Another symptom(?): After MIOS Studio fails to do something (when it does't see the synth when after press "query" or when a hex upload fails), my synth reboots. I need to find someone with a firewire port on their computer, or their own MIDI interface. Or at least I WILL need to next time my firmware needs an update.
  15. I have a completed MB-6582, and this is (I hope) the last problem. When I power it on, the Modulation menu is open, and MOD1 is selected, as if I pressed that switch for column 1. The entire first column of LEDs blinks about twice a second. The switch does not work at all. After I power it up I am unable to select MOD1. Every other button works fine. I continuity tested that switch, and it seems to be fine. It behaves just like the other switches. EDIT: And then, just for kicks, I applied 5v to the switch in question. When I did it correctly, it just selected MOD1. When I did it backwards, a little spark flew out, and the problem was fixed. (This is the same MB-6582 that had the broken LED row, which was fixed in a similar manner )
  16. Nope! The LCD is fine.
  17. hmm, I guess I'll try more drivers. So the fact that the MIDI interface works perfectly in Pro Tools and Finale doesn't mean it should work fine for sending SysEx? The MIOSstudio beta app won't work either, and neither will the MBSIDV2 editor.
  18. What is manual mode? I'm using MIOS Studio 2.1, and I don't see any options for delay time. The control panel for the Firewire 410 has absolutely no options to configure the MIDI ports. I tried an older driver. Same result, so I updated back to the newest one. Finale and Pro Tools can play the synths just fine, which leads me to believe there's nothing wrong with the interface's MIDI out. I can also plug my MIDI keyboard into the interface, and input notes into Finale and Pro Tools that way, so the interface's MIDI in must be ok, right?
  19. Yeah, just build the entire thing, and add SIDs as you get them. It will work with just two SIDs, and you'll probably get more later. Pay special attention to the "power supply" section. You want Option B, which will allow you to use any version of the SID chip.
  20. Any other ideas? Are there any known issues with Mac OS 10.6.4 or the M-Audio Firewire 410 interface?
  21. As far as I can tell there aren't any setting for my interface to change, nor are there any in MIOS studio.
  22. I have two MB6582 and one sammichSID, all with these problems. I used to be able to upload hex files to each of these synths successfully. The only thing that's changed is I got a new computer (Mac OS 10.6.4, before was 10.4.9). My MIDI interface is an M-Audio Firewire 410. EDIT: I just hooked up my old computer, and was able to upload a hex to the Sammich. In MIOS Studio, sometimes I get the message: No response from MIOS8 or MIOS32 core! Check MIDI IN/OUT connections and Device ID! And sometimes I get Operating System: MIOS8 Board: MBHP_CORE or similar Core Family: PIC18F Application is up & running! It seems to be random which of those I get. I just keep pressing "query" and it changes. Every time I try to upload a hex file I get either (from most frequent to least frequent) Upload aborted due to error #3: Checksum mismatch or Upload aborted due to error #11: MIDI IN Overrun Error or Upload aborted due to error #1: Less bytes than expected have been received
  23. Do you have another power supply? Maybe try that out if you do.
  24. haha yeah, I'm so protective of it...more for the hours put into it than the cost of the materials. Oh, and the availability of SID chips.
