Alex E Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 I just cannibalized a Yamaha PSR-31 and found 2 YM chips: YM2812 + YM3301. It looks like the 3301 was for the PCM drums on board, and the other one was for FM. I found very little info on these chips and I was wondering can make a Midibox with one of them? Does anyone have some info on these?
stryd_one Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 can make a Midibox with one of them? It'd be a custom app, but it may be possible... A datasheet is step #1 ...
nILS Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 I doubt you'll have a lot of fun doing that - google comes up with 9 results for each of the two chips... :-\
DrBunsen Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 As long as one of them is the datasheet .... ;)
Jaicen Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 IIRC, the 2812 became the 3819 which was used in the Atari and C64 sound expander. Very basic 2-op FM, and I believe 4 voice. Not all that useful.
stryd_one Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Make that 10 hits ;) Thx for the info J.
Smithy Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Id suggest circuit bending it instead if youre interested in it.I have a yamaha PSR 48 myself rippped apart, but didnt get around to bending it yet!Theres 2 PCB's connected by short cables soldered to the boards, so it will make it a bit awkard!Must check out which fm chip it has again.
