"The best part of all, Christian from catchpole.net figured out how to emulate a HardSID by using a custom HARDSID.DLL with the same export routines, which means that my new SID2MID circuit can serve as my CCS64 emulator's sound card! Once I'm done writing the firmware and DLL code, I'll be able to hear the authentic C64 music through an authentic SID chip. "

I wonder could we do the same with the midibox sid.

When i say "We", i really mean some awesome programmer on this forum, and me just reaping the benefits.  ::)

Hey I came across a C64 and C64SX for free on Craigslist just waiting to hear back from the guy... Does the C64SX use the SID chip? If so I'll grab it as well or I'll leave it...

Looks like the answer is yes... Neat conversion...

Umnn,,, looks quite rare, i really wouldn't butcher it.

I'd love to have a working SX64 in good condition.  I would like to think that it, along with the 128D, are too valuable (and historically relevant) to harm.  I would happily trade anybody a working, tested 6581 SID for an SX64 :)

I would happily trade anybody a 8580 for a SX64  ;D

I'm awaiting a reply to see if the C64 and SX64 are available... If so I will trade the SX64 for a working SID chip in North America prefer Canada...

That would be a bad deal for you - I'd suggest you sell the SX64 on eBay and use the money to buy at least 10 new SIDs from Wilba! These things are collectors items and regularly go for more than 200 Euros on eBay.

I think it's a bit naff....

I love brit slang!!!

and i agree.. saving old hardware IS a bit naff.. i mean.. is anyone going to actually RUN a SX64.. 'cmon..  ( im in IT, so i dont usually get sentimental about old computers )

but maybe you get the SX64 from craigslist for free.. SELL it on ebay ( or the fleamaket ) to someone who wants it.. and buy more SIDS from wilba!!! :D  but they dont really go for more than about $80 on ebay from what i can see..

Heh... Honestly I'm not sure... I don't think it is. I probably picked up the word from one of my pommy mates. Australia has become a very multicultural society, and I've lived in lots of different places, and picked up words from mates all along :)

It is worth doing the DR110 mod... The kik ends up sounding like an 808 kick with long sustain and lower tone... Hats, clap, and snare sound great as well... I have an mp3 here of it mind you it is only 128k...

I want to install a midi/trig kit for it and look into installing individual outs for each voice... This is where I got the nfo for the mod...

  • 4 weeks later...

By this thread I remembered that I have bit faulty SX-64 in my closet. I opened it and it had 6581R4AR 1187 14 chip installed.

I might swap it with one of my MidiboxSID on board chips. Gotta Google some voltage information first.

Any comments on this revision?

Update:

Ok, it seems to be pin compatible with older revisions (well it is 6581  :P) so I just plug it in.

Rather good collection of different chips, only one I don't have on board is 6582A because of the different voltages. Only 2 SID boards with 8580 and want to keep those for hihats and other high pitch sounds.
