mwmtj
I am looking for a hardware solution to play a pipe organ via LAN over a long distance.Sending out Midi information from the computer over LAN is no problem, there are several good software solutions like Ipmidi, etc. But I did not find any kind of interface to convert the LAN signal back to midi, except the VERY expensive Ethermidi interface from Dmexx. This little box is about 800$ !!Any help is highly appreciated,Thomas
ping-
Im no expert in this area, but maybe you could use a Microchip ENC28J60 chip..its a 28pin 10mbit ethernet controller with spi interface, so its very easy to control it with a PIC18 mcu (or others that support spi), and then use the PIC18 to output the midi signals.. :)Just an idea tho..maybe the guru's inhere have a better suggestion :D

Sasha
It would be really cool to have LAN MIDI hardware especially WiFi. I search the net from time to time in hope somebody will do it but haven`t got some luck by now.
dreamer
That price of the kiss box is way too expensive, can't imagine there's no cheaper alternative solution.
Imp
Why don't you just put another PC at the end of that cable? An old/cheap machine might do the trick...E.g. you can build a cheap system with one of these..http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboards/D945GCLF/D945GCLF-overview.htm
stryd_one
OK now that it has been mentioned elsewhere, I can suggest that the new core module, not yet released and a long time away, may be well suited to this job...
eby
no need to build a PC for that, any old computer(even a 468 can) with an ethernet, compatible ipmidi software and a midi system will do.Wouldn't it be wonderful if an Amiga can do it ?. stryd_one
Sure: Linux/m68k (debian will do that), and a pd patch that converts midi to OSC and back ;)
