Davo Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 (edited) I have a Yamaha TX802, which is essentially a DX7mk2 in a rackmount chassis. I'd like to get an actual DX7mk2 one of these days, but I don't know -- the TX802 is so compact and convenient. I just now hatched the crazy idea of replicating the user interface of a DX7mk2 with Midibox hardware. Does anyone know if it's possible to communicate with a TX802 over midi to make this gizmo work? I'd appreciate any ideas and suggestions you may have. Edited February 27, 2011 by Davo

Altitude Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 I think the TX has a much better interface then the DX, number pad, bigger screen, more parameters on screen at once etc. Are you looking to do something like a Jellinghaus programmer or just an LCD with some controls?
Davo Posted February 27, 2011 Author Report Posted February 27, 2011 I'm looking for the latter: LCD and controls. Replicating the Jellinghaus programmer would be interesting, but probably too complex for me.
nebula Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 A Jellinghaus-style programmer would be a bigger project, but I think it would be simpler to implement as a MIDIbox than to try to replicate the behaviour of a DX7 front panel.
