poll? sid 8580 or 6581

i wonder which sid the midibox people prefer to use for their projects....

did anyone combined 8580 with 6581 in the same multisid-midibox? how is the result?

I've build a {2x8580 2x6581} MidiBox SID.

In my view the best combination :)

I slightly prefer the 8580

In my view the sound of the 8580 is a little more sophisticated. But the 6581 is able to generate more "filthy" sounds ;D

I got 4x 6581s and 4x 8580s and tried various ways. But I really prefer the 8580. It sounds much stronger and deeper, especially the filter is absolute coolness.

Yes, the 6581 really sounds filthier. A little more junkier (in the good way), too.

Now I got 4x 8580s in my SID and sold the 4 6581s here on MB forum.

I got one 6581 and one 8580 for testing. I liked the 8580 much more, so I'm building a 4x 8580 SID now...

After finally getting to compare the chips (and different capacitors, too) with a joystick controlled filter, I too find the 8580 more to my liking. The 6581 has a bit softer, more fluent tone in the bass register, but the 8580 has an overall sound that is more "in your face" and expressive, and the filter is capable of more nuances.

So, anyone out there with a 8580 to sell? I'd like to turn my 1x8580/1x6581 into a 2x8580 (or maybe a 2x8580/1x6581 or maybe a...).   :D
